The reading is fun and educational at the same time. Learning has never been easier. My goal was acheived!.
Wow, a book that you can actually apply. So many theory related books out there deny us of what we really need to know - The how to part.
Of course, Robert Mager is a legend in this field and this book lends credence to his knowledge, expertise and years of experience.
This book will walk you through the steps of how to identify a fuzzy, make it a goal and then apply the techniques to demonstrate achievement.
This book covers the five critical steps for conducting a Goal Analysis in complete detail with plenty of examples and exercises.
Even if you are not in this field, you could read this book and apply it to your own life so you can change from a wandering generality to a meaningful specific!
Ariston is a pubescent lad from Sparta. He is captured by the Athenians in one of the wars that dotted this period in history. Trained from birth in the Spartan tradition of enduring physical hardships, he will need all of his strength to survive in Athens.
He is sold into slavery as a boy prostitute in a brothel. Comely of body, he becomes a star attraction for the customers. Yet while his body is broken, his mind remains whole. His life in the brothel is authentic, such were the customs of ancient Greece.
Eventually he is purchased by a rich man for his personal use, saving him from the tortures of the brothel. Ariston grows up to become an actor on the Greek stage, where his physical beauty is appreciated.
Yerby's novel is a good read. It is sweeping in scope, set in interesting times, with strong characters. All of the minutae of ancient Greek life are captured here. This one is for all lovers of historical fiction.

I was fortunate enough to know Lionel, and sat with him at his home on occassion listening to him talk about the weather and the "three old maids" building a house next to his. Never did he discuss his combat missions or time served in the military with me; never did I ask questions. I have known several war veterans, and knew better than to broach the subject--besides, I just enjoyed Lionel's company, and as he remarked in his book, "I don't discuss war with those that never fought. They don't understand."
Oftentimes, I remarked to my wife that I regretted not asking Lionel if I could take a tape recorder with me to interview him. Fortunately for us all a reporter had enough foresight to do that very thing. I recently finished the book published about this little known American icon, Hear the Bugles Calling (My Three Wars as a Combat Infantryman). Lionel was the recipient of three combat infantryman badges, and two silver stars abrazoned the metals on the blue ribbon. Lionel recently died of Leukemia in 1999, the result of being present in Nevada for the witnessing of four atomic bomb detonations.
His is a story for anyone interested in courage. I'm lucky to have called him friend.........

Its really a shame that this book does not get enough press. This world would be a better place if everyone followed the principles outlined here. Its also concise and easy to read so many many audiences would appreciate it. I say pick it up today.
While all of this may sound intuitive and perhaps inevitable in this age of snap analysis, flippant humor and above all, the mad rush to instant everything it is altogether another thing to be guided through this by the author.
I came to two conclusions:
a)I want to do take this book to heart and work on my style. While I might be getting the point across in most discourse, I may be making things worse rather than better sometimes by the way I say things.
b)The author is clearly a wise man with a keen insight and understanding into human psychology as well as manners. In some ways this is a throwback to a more genteel age, but in fact the book is extremely relevant for today.
Reading this book can only help you!
If you follow only half the suggestions in this book, people will be responding to you more positively right away. Follow all the suggestions, and folks will think you are a charming and friendly person.
Dale Carnegie wrote "How to Win Friends and Influence People" back in the 20s or 30s. It was an excellent book. But times have changed. People have changed. Our society and culture have changed. "How to Improve Your Relationships, Dramatically: Methods that Really Work" is the book that gives you the lessons, examples, and full explanations of of the methods to help you become a person that can enter into a relationship and understand the dynamics that could cause it to go wrong.
Read the book. Take it's lessons to heart. I'm glad I did. I know you'll be glad you did, too.

I have read several Delphi books and really hate the style that shows you how to browse through the DBDEMOS animals in a simplistic--almost childish--window. Then they move on to programming the Windows API or other esoteric topics.
Mr. Engo move steadily from the very simple to the more complex. This is not a book for the advanced user--probably not even for the intermediate--but it is possibly the best for the novice.
He covers topics such as How to dress up your interface, How to create Multiform applications, Common Programming mistakes, Working with Procedures and Functions and How to build database applications -- with and without SQL.
The biggest disappointment--and I particularly wanted help on this--was the section on reports. It refers to ReportSmith (D3 comes with QuickReports!)
An added bonus is a library of functions--including the source code. They are fairly elementary, but an excellent learning tool, especially for those of us who wrote our own libraries in Clipper, and suddenly feal naked when we come to a new language without years of accumulate functions.
If you are looking for a good introduction to Delphi 3 -- I'm pretty sure everything will work in Delphi 4 -- then this is the book for you.
