The Fables of Aesop

A beautiful rendition of classic tales.
When it comes to childrens' books, sometimes the illustration is as important as the text. The illustrations in this book are derived from hand-stitched textile pieces - colorful and imaginitive. Sketches for the textile works are printed on the endpapers. Each page has one of Aesop's fables told briefly enough for a small child to digest, and in simple language that is easy to read out loud. There are many versions of Aesop, of course. I was looking for one that would make these old moral tales palatable for kindergarten and first graders, and this is the one.

He who is in us is bigger than he who is in the world.
I would like every christian believer in this world to read this book. Never have I encountered someone who regret that they bought and read this book.
This book is very clear on the fact that for those who believe NOTHING is impossible. For God everything is possible, all that is required is faith and that you trust in Him.

ALMOST LIKE BEING THERE
I am lucky enough to have Fallingwater practically in my backyard, and it is one of my favorite places on earth to visit! These viewmaster reels are incredible - 3 reels - 1 each on interiors, exteriors, and details. They are amazing, and are an okay substitute for when I can't get there! The photos are beutiful, and really capture the spirit of the house (although it really must be experienced in real-life). Truly a treat.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll love it.
This book is the libretto for the musical "Falsettos" which is sung entirely, so unless you have the music, the book is incomplete. But for "Falsettos" lovers this is a must have. The music is a bit confusing with a lot of subtext. The book allows you to analyze each character to find the deeper meaning (and believe me, there is a lot of underlined meaning). The best part of the book is that it includes one version of "In Trousers" (which is vertually unavailable in a sound recording). "In Trousers" was the first of the three one-acts written and tells of Marvin's struggle with his sexuality when he was in high school. There are three versions of "In Trousers": the original, the revision, and a combination of both. This version is the combination. Perhaps "In Trousers" is the most insightful of all three shows, although it is the hardest to understand. If you like to analyze scripts, this one is a welcomed challenge. All three deal with the idea of homosexuality and family life. It is a funny, heart warming, heart wrenching story as you follow Marvin's struggle to accept his homosexuality and still maintain a relationship with his young son and (ex)wife. It has good family values and some beautiful ballads. One of my all time favorite musicals. A definite for any musical library.

No Adequate Required. Just have fun...
The author Francis A. Olivo "Fancy Frank" graduated from the Minnesota School of Bartending and has been in the liquor business for five years. Have fun and learn how to make Bloody Marys, Pina Coladas, Iron Butterflies, Kamikazes, Long Island Ice Teas, and old fashions all from scratch. A complete Martini, Margarita, Manhattan, and Rob Roy sections. He explains understanding liqueur tastes. It has a complete drink mixes glossary. Includes safety tips. Common slang terms and much, much, More. However, the thing I like most is how the author takes all the adequate out of mixing drinks. The definition of "Adequate" is coming up to the required standard of or being very well disciplined in certain customs. Well the author makes it very clear. You don't have to come up to any required standard to enjoy making drinks, nor is it the intention of this book to make you very well disciplined in certain customs. The main idea is to have fun and explore new exotic mixed drinks. The author has a great sense of humor and he's got a killer recipe for Martinis and Long Island Ice Teas. Buy the book, just the names of some of these drinks will keep you laughing. Regards The Unknown Critic....

Very enjoyable read!
A Faraway Sun is the story of an aging family patriarch, a family immigrating from Italy to the US, and the interactions between diverse siblings. Frank Pettinelli covers topics ranging from aging to religion in a way that informs you without detracting from the story. And the story is an interesting one. The immigration from Italy was the most engrossing part of the book, and I also enjoyed the dialogue that questioned some of the religious mantras. He goes into a little too much detail on the ecological issues in North Carolina in one chapter, but it doesn't take much away from the rest of the story.
Overall, a highly enjoyable book that I would recommend.

Excellent Debut Novel
I read Father Frank on the advice of a friend earlier this year. We were camping and I needed a new book to read. I was expecting a simple, funny beach read and I got that, but it is also much more than that. Francis Dempsey, a lapsed Irish Catholic, gets into Oxford to study theology and eventually becomes a priest, despite his total lack of belief in a higher power. The book, pleasant and enjoyable to read, manages to tackle subjects like faith, sex and the role of religion in every day life without preaching and author Paul Burke does a surprisingly good job of it. The seemingly silly, unbelievable plotline works brilliantly thanks to Burke's impressive comedic talent. This is a purely fun read, and one that will, amazingly enough, leave you pondering faith. Outraegeously funny, sometimes heartbreaking, 'Father Frank' should be required reading for everyone who ever questioned God, and love.

AN UNDERSTANDING AND SUSPENSEFUL READING
Not much is more cruel than the way young people may treat the one they consider to be the "class nerd." Such is the case with Robert Nobel, often called "Norbert" by his primary bully, Jonathan Niker.
Like every other youngster Roberts wants to have friends, to be recognized as a person of value. It seems this will not happen until he takes part in what is called the Elders Project, an endeavor in which members of his class visit the elderly residents of a rest home. Jonathan considers these older folks "vegetables," but Robert sees something more and this is a vision that changes his life.
Edith, thought to be quite a bit off, becomes Robert's friend and it is through her story that he eventually finds himself.
Director/actor Philip Franks invests understanding and suspense into this unforgettably moving tale.
