The book covers a very broad scope of software architecture. Many different topics, like ADLs, architecture recovery and architecture assessment are covered. Neccessarily, the level of detail is somehow restricted. I don't consider this as an disadvanteage, because I think that „giving the big picture" is the main goal of the authors. Also, especially the case study chapters contain sufficient examples to give the practical oriented reader (like me) a good understanding of the topics.

The book tries to integrate the two areas of research and reference. Chapters 1 to 3 cover more the theoretical (research) part, while chapters 4 to 6 more the practical part. In that sense, chapters 1 to 3 serve as the reference part of the book, while chapters 4 to 6 show applications in real world systems. My impression was, that not all topics/items mentioned in the reference part of the book, are illustrated later in the practical part (for example, I could not find examples for „texture of software" which was mentioned in chapter 1). Also, chapters 4 to 6 contain some very useful and important techniques, which I missed in the reference part, for example discussion of using UML as ADL, DDT and also architecture simulation by use of CPN.

As I am more practicval oriented, I like more chapters 4 to 6 as they show me, how real world problems were solved. In these chapters some very good ideas were given, which are interstig for me. Also, I liked the introduction in chapter 1 because it first gives a good background coverage on software architecture and secondly because it names the reason for applying software architecture by giving some real world experiences (some of the problems mentioned here are familiar to me).

The book is written by a collection of writers. Of course, there are some variations in writing style through the chapters, but I consider this as acceptable, because of the great number of authors. All chapters are good to read.

I think, the book gives good information and practical examples on software architecture for product families. It should be useful for everybody working in that field.

Generally good overview of software architecture options but not really what you want if you are interested in architecting highly complicated software-only systems. Their main focus, which is based on industrial experience, is embedded software in electronic devices such as televisions and mobile phones.

It is a shame that they did not really explain their Koala ADL. Still it contains a lot of good refernces and its a good starting point for more indepth study. Most references are to IEEE publications.

Frank's book is interesting, insightful and even helpful for those who find their vocation in the church. However, the title of his work is very misleading. Rather than writing about the soul of the congregation, he spends his energy discussing a congregation's history and personality...which is still helpful, but not a discussion of the soul. For those looking for a book to dig more deeply into what makes their local churches tick, this volume will provide a good resource. However, those seeking a discussion of the corporate soul (as in Acts 4) should look elsewhere.

In a sea of books focusing on church growth to megachurch proportions, "The Soul of the Congregation" reminds us of the human element - the individual - that is an integral part of all churches. Dr. Frank presents episodes of real life congregations to which all pastors can relate. He provides a model for pastors and church leaders to connect their stories with those of the congregation - thus finding the soul. The pastoral voice of the book can renew disilliusioned young ministers as well as revive persons who have served many years of ministry.

This short but sweet book documents the activities of the French company Méliès Star Film in 1911 in San Antonio. Chased out of New York by cold weather, they spent 1911 filming westerns around the San Antonio missions. Although almost all of these films are lost, author Thompson has documented storylines and reviews of all of the productions filmed there, including the first ever movie about the Alamo. Definitely a must-have book for fans of early silent film.

This is an entertaining look at early film making, and an in-depth look at why a film legend, Georges Melies brought his Star Film Company from Manhattan to Texas 1910. Located just outside San Antonio, the Melies company made more than 70 films with popular actors of the era, including Francis Ford, older brother to film director John Ford.. A rare treat for film buffs and Texas history fans who may not know about the start of the Texas film industry. Melies produced the first "Alamo" motion picture, which used cadets from San Antonio's Peacock Military Academy as Santa Anna's army.

Although wordy with ALOT of jumping around, this book does manage to make some very good points regarding the modern economy and where its going.

As an "elective book" for my MBA, I found it to be a bit over-the-top for an "introductory" book, however, I admit that my own shortcomings in the area of Econ. may account for this.

I have used this book in a Master's level course in Business, Government and Society. It is an extremely useful text. The issues that the editors have selected are comprehensive and current. The particular authors and articles selected are spectacular. I am gratified to have found a book that so easily prompts high-level student discussion. It is fulfilling to hear students say that a book has made them think about the substance of issues rather than just accepting popular slogans. Anyone who looking for one source that explores many of the ethical issues that impact business today should pick up this book.

For fans and students of Frank Lloyd Wright's work, 'Teater's Knoll' is even better than 'Frank Lloyd Wright's Hanna House: The Client's Report'. The Archie Teater Studio is the only FLLW house in Idaho, and one of his most fascinating. Not only is it a beautiful design, it is one of the best-documented FLLW houses; the original owners saved every scrap of paper with any bearing on the house's design and construction. After falling on hard times and disrepair, the house was saved by Henry Whiting II, who found the Teater archives when he bought the place in near-derelict condition. Whiting has used that material to tell the story of the house's construction. It nearly didn't get built at all, owing to the irascibility of the clients; they hired, fired, and sued contractors and labourers with what can only be called mad abandon. Whiting goes on from this tale of woe to tell of his hands-on restoration of the house; it's one of the few FLLW restorations done by an owner, albeit an owner with a background in architecture. There's also interesting material in the book on Whiting's uncle, Alden Dow, a friend and disciple of Wright's. This one gets four stars- I'm docking it one star only because the photography of the restoration fails to give much sense of the flow of spaces within the house. HIGHLY recommended, nonetheless! You won't regret it.

This book provided a high level approach to the nuts & bolts of an ecommerce business. I recommend this book to anyone considering the dive into ecommerce.

I found this book to be very unbiased and helpful in learning how to start an on-line business. Very straight forward, with lots of great resources. The book is very specific to starting retail on-line businesses, so don't be suprised if it does not cover your specific business plan. Great resources, easy to peruse and to find information at-a-glance. I would highly recommend it to anyone starting an on-line business...

This is basically a textbook at textbook's price, useful for reference only. Too theoretical and technical to be practical. One wonders how one can apply anything written in it, other than feeling impressed by the book's size and the editors' learning. Read it for pleasure if you dare! Many chapters written by Fabozzi, but very few actually by Markowitz. I feel good having a book edited by a Nobel prizewinner sitting on my shelf among my other investment books (and I have many) but that's about all I can say about it.

Ideal for students doing courses on Investment Management. Very clearly written and explained. Good index. Plenty of references to other writings in the field.

I used this book for my single-variable integral calculus course and I must say it did an excellent job of teaching what the instructor couldn't. The problem sets are good, and if the solutions manual wasn't riddled with errors, the combination would be outstanding.

I have now traveled extensively through Europe and toted Frank's guide with me everywhere. Whenever I reach a new country I enjoy reading his account of the history of Jews there, as well as what he has to say on major Jewish sites, architecture and the other facts he offers. However, as a listing of useful reference information such as telephone numbers, addresses, etc., it is woefully short.
Too many of his facts are simply out of date. He frequently gives the home phone number of rabbis and others connected with various synagogues rather than those of the shuls themselves. This can make it extremely difficult if not impossible to contact anyone on a Friday morning or afternoon before Shabbos. On the other hand, there are no personalized contacts - he never gives the information for a community liason, for instance, or anyone else who could be of assistance. He has no maps or other means of indicating how close or far things are from a central point or each other; just try and make it around Dublin with this guide and you'll find yourself miles out of town with no easy way back.
It frequently becomes clear in his writing that Ben Frank is rather lenient in his halacha. He recommends kosher-style restaurants without valid hashkachah while failing to mention many of those which do. Paris and London are endowed with fabulous Jewish communities and consequently dozens of kosher establishments, but one would never know it from his guide.

This book is filled with a wealth of information that every Jew traveling to Europe should have. It is an excellent resource guide with addresses, phone numbers and email addresses to help you plan your itinerary and get more information from European sources prior to your trip. I highly recommend this book.

A solid account of the political turmoil surrounding the 1800 election, with vivid portraits of Jefferson, Hamilton, and Aaron Burr (J. Adams is more sketchy, a fact more evident in the post-McCullough treatment days.) There's less on broad electoral college strategizing than there might be and more on romance, as the narrative is centered around a series of love letters which might interest others more than they did me. Well-written and factual, to my knowledge, certainly worth a read by those interested in this era.
