Simply superb
Not only an excellent introduction to the treatment of patients with borderline personality disorder, but also an extremely lucid explanation of object relations theory and its application. Because the authors define "borderline personality organization" quite broadly, the techniques they outline are applicable to nearly all patients in long-term, insight-oriented psychotherapy. This is by far the best introduction to the murky world of object relations theory, and to the work of Otto Kernberg, that I have yet encountered. In spite of its cumbersome title, it is probably destined to become a classic. As Peter Fonagy says on the back cover: "It is a must have."

Les claypool revealed!!
This book is a much needed explination of the insanity of Les Claypool's bass style. His slap bass style with bits of tapping, usually on a 5 string bass, occasionally fretless. I have been trying for years to decifer les's music, and now it's finally possible. worth every penny and every second of practice. This is perfect for any primus fan who is instrumental, but be warned, Les' music "is!" as hard to play as it sounds. Have fun.

bravo, mr. kitson!
A fascinating book. Kitson is (I think) Rupert's only living biographer, and his work is most welcome. Kitson does an excellent job of doing exactly what he set out to do: creating a thorough, rounded, and scholarly account of Rupert's career in the army. Although the book is not intended to be a general biography, Kitson also manages to convey some of the reasons for his admiration of this remarkable man, and the book inspires the reader to search for other works on Rupert and the English Civil War. After reading this one, I took the trouble to hunt down a copy of Eva Scott's Prince Rupert of the Rhine, which is one of the rarer biographies, which, nevertheless, all Rupert's biographers seem to utilize. I have no idea why either Scott or Kitson are out of print. They shouldn't be.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the English Civil War or in Prince Rupert particularly. If you do not know anything about this part of history, this may not be the best starting place, as it assumes a certain cursory knowledge of the events.

One item which would improve this book substantially: better maps. Poor maps not withstanding, I still give it five stars.

Prince What a Mess
This is a great book. It is fun for kids and adults. Our kids have worn out our copy and I was looking for another. Unfortunately, the What a Mess series seems to be out of print. Yes there are several in this series and they are all great!

A well-written work and a fascinating read
Principles And Heresies: Frank S. Meyer And The Shaping Of The American Conservative Movement is a fact-filled and engaging biography of Frank S. Meyer (1909-1972), and his profound influence on the conservative political movement in the United States, particularly in the years after World War II. An erudite commentary and presentation by Kevin J. Smant (Assistant Professor of History, Indian University, South Bend) that focuses in depth upon Frank Meyer's political career and beliefs. Especially recommended for students of 20th Century American political history, Principles And Heresies is a well-written work and a fascinating read from cover to cover.

Prism and Lens Making
Published in Paperback by Adam Hilger (February, 1988)
Author: Frank Twyman
Amazon base price: $90.00
Used price: $39.94
Average review score:

A very detailed and comprehensive book
This book is covering nearly every aspect about optics making: Grinding, polishing: techniques, used materials. Machines: How they work. Measuring: detailed explanation of the measuring techniques for lens and prism making. Anyone who want to make his own optics, usually telescoop builders, will find everything he need to know. Not much a theoretical book - there are many - but a very practical book. Although the book was first published in 1942 most of the techniques are still the same today.

As a professional lensmaker I can recommend it to anyone interested in these techniques.

A powerful look at the horror of the Civil War
Private Osborne is a powerful look at the horror of the Civil War through the eyes of a young man who was only sixteen when he joined as a member of the Massachusetts 23rd Volunteers. His letters are presented in this thoughtful account, which provides plenty of historical detail and context to the words of a Civil War battlefield survivor who penned first-hand testimony of the Burnside Expedition, Roanoke Island, and the Second Front against Richmond among his experiences. Private Osborne also follows the soldier's life after the Civil War, up to his death in 1923. A remarkable, gripping testimony, Private Osborne is a welcome and highly recommended contribution to the annals of Civil War history.
