A great modern musical gets a great Vocal Selection book
Complete with color photos and information from the Director, Lyricist and Composer of The Scarlet Pimpernel. This is one of the most informative vocal selection books I have bought in a while.

However the importance is in the songs that are featured. The only notable absence from the book is "Prayer". Yet all the great songs are there. From "Where's the Girl" to "Into the Fire" this book contains some great sings for different ranges. The piano accompaniment is quite good and does the job of accompanying the singer quite well. However it cannot compare to the original orchestral arrangement. The songs are almost exactly the same (singers interpretation causes differences) as those featured in The Original Broadway Recording of The Scarlet Pimpernel (Douglas Sills and Terrence Mann).

A great group of vocal arrangements are presented in this book and is highly recommended.

This is cool!
This score of the amazing musical was the BEST! I loved the arrangements and certain harmonizings that the arranger added. I have many of these "play" books, and this was one of the best! "The Scarlet Pimpernel" rocks!

Very Good Music
This was a really good book, the music is easy to play on the piano and it's just as pretty, if you like playing Broadway songs on an instrument, then you need this book!

A Unique Suspense
Sea trial is a great book.I read this novel more than twenty years ago and this second time was no let down. It's still fascinates me.Lots of suspense, great character development and a unique plot twist at the end.If you are looking for a book that will stay in your mind you for a long time, this is the one.

Probably the best thriller I've ever read.
The characters are unforgettable, and the plot is relentless. I felt like I was on the boat. On a scale of one to ten, definitely an absolute ten.

Excellent piece of prose!
Sea Trial may very well be a play at sea! The characters' developement throughout the book is wholesome and the ending, one of the few I've read which really shocked me... a must if you can gets your hands on it... (luckily, I still have the book!)

By the way, I had read someplace that it was made into a film starring Tom Selleck and Lauren Hutton, but I can't seem to locate it. Does anyone have any idea...?

Your Second Endgame Book
Unfortunately, explanations of pawn endings tend to be more mystifying than helpful to players of average talent (like me). Even single pawn endgames can seem so puzzling. However, with a little work even average players can understand this book. I suspect it would be helpful to unusually talented and experienced players as well.

I feel that for most player's purposes this book is a little better than Averbach's book, but it's most fun to have them both and compare their explanations. Averbach's book spends far more time on the theory of corresponding squares, while this book is more practical. In short, don't despair if you can't find Averbach's book; this one is very good.

If you've read a basic introduction to the endgame, and want to go deeper, this is the next step. All other endgames constantly threaten to reduce to pawn endgames, so these are fundamental concepts. As it says on the back cover, "Without an understanding of [pawn endings] it is impossible to master more complicated endings." That is absolutely true.

Many players will feel that pawn endgames are boring, but in reality they can be very beautiful. If you learn to enjoy them, then your enjoyment of the entire game of chess will increase.

A Comprehensive Pawn-Ending Book
This is the only books I found that covers all the basic concepts of pawn endings that are taken for granted in more advanced books. For example, if you've read books like My System, you're probably familiar with pawn breakthroughs. This book shows you how to engineer them.

Secrets of Pawn Endings is not an easy read. But if you want to take your endgame to the next level, you need this book.

Tour de Force
This is a comprehensive and eminently readable treatise on pawn endings. The organisation is superb. Chapters titled 'Race of the Passed Pawns' 'Unique features of the Rook's Pawn', 'Fortresses' 'Breakthrough', 'Fight for Tempi and Manouevre', 'Corresponding Squares', 'Thinking Methods to Find the Right Move' (among others) are to be found. These chapter titles themselves attest to the excellence of this treatise. I use the word 'treatise' deliberately; the coverage is comprehensive. The work is a piece of scholarship written with Teutonic thoroughness and accuracy.

This is not to say that there are not other good pawn ending books around. The Averbakh book is quite good, as is the one by Hajenius and van Riemsdijk (The Final Countdown). The book by Fishbein is not a bad effort. But the title being reviewed here beats 'em all. I'd give the Averbakh book 4 stars and the other two 3 stars each. 'Secrets of Pawn Endings' deserves 5.

If you have already studied a basic endgame book and wish to embark on a careful study of pawn endings, this is the book for you

I met Frank Maselli two years ago when I began working for a large financial services company. The guy is a human dynamo, stand up comedian and motivational speaker.

His book is the only guide I use to help me carry out seminars from concept to completion. I presented 12 seminars last year and had great success with his ideas. I highly recommend this book to anyone in sales, marketing or other people intnse occupations.

If you like Nick Murray...

Sharp's Firearms by Frank M Sellers
Without a doubt the finest reference on Sharps Rifles available.Mr Sellers has done the research and cleared up any argument as to what the plains buffalo rifles were; calibre, weight and configuration. The illustrations and first hand accounts of owner's of these fine firearms are first rate.

A must for Sharps shooters!.
The book is a very valuable resource for anyone interested in Sharps rifles and the part they have played in American history. As avid sharps rifle shooters my wife and I both enjoyed the book.

A wealth of information on the Sharps firearm.
I have read with great interest Mr. Sellars' book on the Sharps firearm. It is well researched with all the data that could be found on this firearm, including wonderful photographs. It covers every known Sharps firearm. I cherish this book above all others in my collection. Without a doubt, Frank Sellers should be very proud of this book! And so will anyone who owns it. I know I am.

The Silence of Great Distance: Women Running Long

The Silence of Great Distance
This book has two levels to it, the first being a historical review of the sport of women's distance running. The real gold here is however what insight is revealed in following the career of Stephanie Herbst during her career at the University of Wisconsin. The dedication and motivation of Ms Herbst and others like her and the dangers of both external and internally generated pressure to perform are an eye opener. The last few chapters especially are extremely powerful.

An indispensible history
Professor Murphy has created the rarest of works, an unlikely combination of literary nonfiction and sports history. I know of no other work on women's sport, particularly running, that offers such depth and breadth. A must for anyone interested in running, the history of women in athletics, and the Title IX era.

Murphy Doesn't Miss a Thing
Frank Murphy does not miss a thing in this book on women long distance runners. I myself am one and not only did he accurately portray the stresses a female runner puts on herself and has forced on her by others and the sport itself but he also provided factual and intriguing statistics about such legends as Mary Decker, Doris Brown, and Suzy Favor Hamilton. I could not put this book down. This true story desperately needed to be told, and no one could have done it better or more completely.

Fun Listening
I enjoyed this tape very much because it told you a lot about the slots but it was also a very enjoyable tape. The speaker is very good. Worth getting for your car.

Listen to this before you play!
This tape is so much fun to listen to and so very very instructive. Frank Scoblete is known as the best gambling writer in the business but he is also one heck of a speaker. You will learn A LOT from listening to him on this tape. He talks about what machines to play andhow to play them with strategies that will let you have the best chance to win or at least the best chance of preserving some of your bankroll. I listen to this whenever I head forthe Tunica casinos and I truly believe it has saved me a fortune. I recommend this along with his book Break the One-Armed Bandits: How to Come out ahead When You Play the Slots as the two essential things you should read or listen to before you play.

Fast and fun with great information
Slot Conquest is a fun audio tape that tells you where the loose and tight machines are located. Scoblete is a good speaker and he explains a lot about the superstitions people believe when they play slot machines. This is a fast way to get good information on the machines. I like to listen in my car as I drive to work. Listening to this is a good follow up to Break the One-Armed Bandits, his book about slots.

~Truthfully Written~
The author of this book is most definately a genius. His style is not seen in a lot of books these days. Most writers fluff thigs up with alot of false detail, but Mr. Childs puts down the gods honest truth. Obviously he has used his own experiences to relate to the charecters in the story, it shows. I enjoyed every one of his short stories. I think my favorite would have to be "Peephole". It really shows that normal, everyday life can be interesting and worth reading. I hope Mr. Childs continues to grace the world with his magnificant work in the future....If he does publish a new book, I will most definately be the first in line to buy it.

Life ain't always pretty.....this proves it!
Life in it's essence, is not pretty. No sugar coated words taint this author's realistic vision of existance. This is real. The stories you hear your good buddies tell you; the kinda of stories bartender's tell their kids to scare them. Life, death, pain, suffering, and, yes, even happiness walk hand in hand into the sunset of oblivion.
If you are tired of frilly [stuff], get a shot glass, a bottle of Jack, and read.... save the wine and warm milk for some Jackie Collins novel.

EXCELLENT!!
The stories in this book are amazing. Did this really happen? From the beginning, with "Old Man" to "My Angel" these stories are visual and seem to capture a different time. I found myself sitting in a bar, drinking with the characters in this book. The author/poet Charles Bukowski comes to mind when reading "The Small Hours"

Spirit Walker
This is a "to the point" review. This book is beautiful - in every way. It relaxes me after a dificult day, or when I need to come back to "Spiritual reality". I'm so sorry it isn't being published any longer - along with several other books by the same author & illistrator. the only one I have is "Spirit Walker"; dreaming I owned all the rest as well.

Returning to the Beginning Place
Like Dancing Moons, Spirit Walker is a set of jewel like reflections on what matters most, written with the sensitivity and sentiment of Native American wisdom which captured Nancy Wood some time ago. This book is not just for young adults as it is classified; it most certainly is for anyone who wants to hear the rhythms of the world a little more clearly. A great book to supplement one's morning meditations, prayers, etc. The paintings by Frank Howell are spellbinding. This is a rare gift for those who need to slow down, to listen, to heal.

I love this book!!!!!
this is the best book of poetry that i have read. I am 15 years old and i have read this book many times. i got it from my grandma when i was little. reading this book helped me though my fathers death in sept. my fav poem is three sisters. i think that people should read this book. now i am tring to get my mom to get me her first book.
