Lectures on Lie Groups
Published in Paperback by W. A. Benjamin Advanced Bk Program (January, 1969)

Average review score:
Elegant and accessible.
This book dicusses Lie groups form a geometric point of view, that is, it covers the topics necessary to understand certain aspects of algebraic topology like characteristic classes. Thus you don't have to have a knowledge of Lie algebras to read this, which is good news for geometers. I highly recommend "Lectures on Lie Groups" to those who interested in the geometry of Lie groups.

An Aviation Pioneer to Remember
Legacy of Wings is a fascinating history of the early development of the aircraft industry in the US, as well as the story of a pioneer in this industry who has generally been forgotten. Harold Pitcairn should not be forgotten for he designed and built the most successful series of planes specifically designed to carry the US Air Mail, and founded a company that carried the mail along the east coast; this company eventually became Eastern Airlines. He went on to pioneer the design and production of autogiros, becoming the largest producer. Autogiros were the first rotary winged aircraft, similar to a helicopter but the rotor blades were not powered except briefly for takeoff. Autogiros can take off and land vertically like a helicopter, although they cannot hover in place. His company held numerous patents on the design of the rotors and their control for flight. This technology was used in helicopters under license from the Pitcairn Autogiro Company. This book is well documented and contains numerous photographs and design details.

The Pioneering, the Vision, the Agony of a 26 Year Lawsuit
I have reread this book 20 years later. I have become more amazed and appreciative of (great uncle) Harold's contributions to the field of aviation, and more understanding of the challenges he faced in trying to secure justice for use of his patents during World War II---the benefits of which were not recognized until after 26 years of litigation.
Even if I weren't related, this is great stuff for anyone to read about the pioneering days of American aviation, from the early mail service (later becoming Eastern Airlines) to the co-development work on the autogiro---the precursor of the helicoptor.
Go for it!

an intricate and captivating re-telling of a classic
"Legend of a Star-Crossed Love", also known as "Tarn of Eternity" and "When Waterlilies are in Bloom", is an excellent remake of the Hades/Persephone tale. Mr. Tymon explores the other side of the somber and tragic legend with just the right touch of humor (from the modern twist) that makes the read very pleasant. It remains, however, a star-crossed love story--and the authors' ethereal poetic style conveys its bittersweetness quite aptly. A true treat for readers who have a taste for mythology, or who is just up for a great love story!

Informative and fun!
This book had me glued. I own a foundation bred stallion and did not know his dam's bloodlines. With each Legends book I read, I learn more of why my stud is the way he is! I have also learned how important research is in breeding quality animals and how they did it then and how it has effected now! An excellent series of books for anyone interested in their horses ancestry.

Coronado's Children
It was an interesting book. It gave an interesting view of the history and layout of the Southwest that gave way to the many interesting and varied stories and legends that have come out of the Southwest. J. Frank Dobie does a good job of picking out all of the good ones and puts them in book form.

Simple but sophistocated
If you don't know much about art but know what you like, this might be the sort of book for you. Leonardo's life is described in this basic biography, focusing on his famous works of art (finished and unfinished) and on his supporting works as well (sketches, architectural and mechanical ideas). The book is printed on glossy high grade magazine paper with color illustrations on almost every page. It brings the artist and his works to the reader in a presentation that caters to those who enjoy have an appriciation, though not an expertise, for art.

Letters Home. The True Story of Lt. Harry Frank Hunt, etc.
Lt. Hunt, from the farmlands of Kansas, graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1913. He volunteered for the Veterinary Reserve Corp and served in France during WWI. Book consists of his letters home, copies of his military documents, photos, quotes, maps and diagrams from Gen. John J. Persing's "Final Report," illlustrations by a professional artist, and more. Love of country and family, devotion to duty, historical facts, humor, romance, suspense, and tragedy are all a part of this true story. Easy to read, large type, cream paper, brown ink, a beautiful book both physically and story-wise.
