Prince of a Poet
Possibly the most unappreciated poetic genius of our time, F. T. Prince, a Renaissance scholar who has published many works on Shakespeare and Milton in particular, is a master of language and style whose traditional forms, including the rarely seen Old- English-based technique of flyting, provide the backdrop for veritable poetic vision. Prince's work gracefully embodies the spiritual intellectualism of Eliot sans the religious angst, the craft of Browning without the constraints of convention.

This volume of collected works includes shorter poems from Prince's early career, when much of his writing reflected his South African heritage, as well as lengthy pieces that transport readers into the worlds of Hasidim, English poet Rupert Brooke, Chinese poet Po Chu-i, Byron and Shelley, and, of course, the intricate worlds of Prince himself. (Visiting the collection's "Notes" section is essential.) As you read Prince, you realize that most poetry today lacks the profundity of both meticulous skill and insight that Prince commands so readily. Because of his myriad brilliance, reading Prince can be a challenge, yet you will emerge from the depths-and heights-of Prince's voice and, having been exposed to truths of humanity, will never be quite the same.

One Of The Publishing Events of 2003,
Robert Lowell, one of the latter 20th century's most popular poets, seems to have recently dropped off the radar. This is probably partially due to a critical point of view which has emerged, stating basically that Lowell was a product of his time and has now beem outmoded.

This book should dispel that feeling.

One need only look back on a poem like 'Memories Of West Street And Lepke' from Life Studies to realize that even if, in a hundred years, someone reads this having no idea who Lepke was, the poem could still be enjoyed. It is the poem itself, as Helen Vendler said in a round-about way, which makes the mark.

Despite the hefty price tag on this volume, if you're interested in Lowell, you should own this book. There's things here which simply cannot be found elsewhere: his first, and never again published Land Of Unlikeness, magazine versions of poems later revised in their book forms, poems in manuscript which Lowell never finished. Aside from the poems (which a dogged individual could track down in their book forms with Amazon and Alibris), it's these bonuses which make the volume special, and change that price tag from wow-that's-a-lot to it's-not-such-a-big-deal.

To say that 'if you're a Lowell fan' you should by this book is wrong. I should say, 'if you're a poetry fan'. This was a man who changed poetry forever. And aside from this historical aspect, they are some of the finest poems ever written.

Collecting Coins

Good addition to the coin book library
This book is well organized with 160 monochrome pictures (taken by the author) with physical descriptions and historical background. One major plus is that this book is that even though they are included it does not concentrate on Greek and U.S. coins.
Contents:
•How coinage Began
•Greek Coins
•Roman and Byzantine coins
•English Coins 1. Ancient Britain to Charles II
•English Coins 2. Charles II to Elizabeth II
•Britain's Modern Coinage
•Error, Freaks and Forgeries
•Condition, Rarity and Value
•Coins and Metal Detecting
•What shall I Collect?
•Looking After Your Collection

Emphasis is that if you have a bunch of coins but no plan, that it is an "accumulation" and not a "collection."

Collector's Encyclopedia of Knowles, Taylor & Knowles China: Identification & Values

A definitive encyclopedia for the collector of KTK china...
This book, published in 1996, seems to be the standard for information about Knowles, Taylor, Knowles pottery. It has an extensive section on history of the pottery, includes a section on the various marks or backstamps (with photos), and covers production both in Ohio and in California.

The book has a wealth of photos of the various lines made by KTK, and includes a wonderful group of images of the famous Lotus Ware, as well as info on the well-loved whiskey jugs. An especially nice feature of this book is that the pricing information is included next to the photo of a piece, which is much more convenient than having to look things up in an index in the back. However, be aware that online auctions have changed the values of some KTK pieces somewhat, so the pricing info here may be a little high. Nonetheless, this is an excellent book for the collector's reference library.

This book was published in 1997, but values are updated for the year 2,000. Wonderful 224 page book contains more than 600 large, full color, sharp photos. Major topics range from bar ware, clocks, dresser accessories, to smoking, statutes, tableware and vases. It contains much text on the origins and development of Art Deco, and each section contains useful information. It also includes facts on reproductions, manufacturers and marks and a comprehensive bibliography. Art Deco collectors will enjoy and refer to this volume often.

Great for adults, too
There are 30 different abstract art masterpieces represented here, so it is definitely worth the price. All pieces are shown in color on the front and back covers, and each individual page has the name of the artist (years of their birth-death), title of the work, date created and type of medium used. So, it's educational and fun. I recommend it for all ages.

Funny how these things work out
I've read a lot of books on color ray work and numerology but this is the first one that was so clear, so concise in its approach.

Easy to read and easy to use, I've amazed friends and clients for years using the principles. The readings you can put together are so very acurate that it's almost scary.

Not only that, it was a real joy to read through. I hope it gets reprinted.
