Enjoyable, fast paced with a surprising ending.
I really enjoyed this book. Its very fast paced, a lot of action with a shocker of an ending. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes John Grisham and Clive Cussler. I wish the book had been a bit longer, I really found myself caring about the characters, and wasnt ready to see it end, but it had a very satisfying ending nonetheless. Highly recommended....

The Rep is excellent!
The Rep is excellent! I couldn't put it down! The book is smooth and enjoyable reading. The characters are alive, vibrant, and truly captivating. The plot is wildly entertaining and extremely suspenseful; the end was a bone chilling surprise. The Rep is a wonderful heart-warming romance as well as plotting murder mystery. The Rep is a must read!

Jakobs is brilliant!
To the best of my knowledge, this is Jakobs first book and he does an exceptional job. I couldn't put it down! He ties in travel, adventure, action and twists like a seasoned writer. Get this book or miss out!

Great book for those planning to retire!!
I have worked in the investment business for over 7 years and I have been involved in retirement planning. Too many people have found that investing for retirement has become complex. Mr Netti's book helped me to understand (in easy to understand language) how my plans can be affected by many variables, ie., investment returns, withdrawal rates, longevity, etc. Also, it is important to me to find the right advisors to help me choose and monitor those investments. There are many advisors out there and this book enabled me to determine what type of advisor I need, where to look, how to hire and pay for advice. It will save much time and money as I plan to retire. Since there are no competency or ethical standards regulated under the banking, insurance or securites laws, a book like "Retire Sooner, Retire Richer" helped me to find the right person for me.

Many Praises
"Frank Netti has taken into consideration the many aspects of retirement. In plain English, he has conscisely and forthrightly written a book that makes a must read for current as well as future retirees."
David Elias, principal of Elias Asset Management

"Frank Netti's book is a wake-up call. To his credit he doesn't downplay the compexities of planning and living a decent retirement in contemporay America. Instead he makes complexity eminently readable. This wise, honest, and instuctive book makes a loud case for finding and partnering with a professional advisor."
Barbara Levin, Director, Fourm for Investor Advice

"In his book, Retire Sooner, Retire Richer, Frank Netti offers 23 investment proverbs to guide the reader in planning a secure retirement. These are the 23 best tips to enjoying your retirement years, and his book offers countless more insights to sound money management. Read this book and take heed, without careful planning, there's trouble ahead."
Christopher L. Davis, Executive Director, Money Management Institute

Must read for everyone!
Netti's book is insightful and a must have for those concerned about having enough resources to retire - which should include everyone. It is never too soon to plan for retirement. Gone are the days of "irrational exhuberance". Netti shows us that only with careful planning and the right steps can we face retirement with confidence. Better yet - it is not just advice but the tools to get there!

Spider Didn,t Stumble
I have just finished reading the "Spider Stumbled" by Frank Paul Venis, a new author. I was more than pleased by his unfettered story telling ability of a very realistic experience of life in a once middle to upper income Queens NY neighborhood. The detailed account of a young teenager from a good family, but nevertheless inexplicably involved in murder, sexual promiscuity, racial bias and a host of other threats to normal progression to adult life by many of our teenagers regardless of their surroundings. It gives the reader pause to consider the question is their anything society can do to remedy these conditions which threaten so many of our young people. The book can be considered alarming, or, a warning. Nonetheless I enjoyed it. Good reading ,fast paced, fine first effort.

YOU WILL LOVE THE CHARACTERS
I grew up in Queens, NY, so that is why I was drawn to the book. But you don't need to be a New Yorker to enjoy this tale. The plot keeps you interested and involved up until the last page. In fact, I hope there is a sequel so I can find out what happens to Spider and all the others.

Fascinating story of temptation, friendships and more...
I thought this book was excellent because of the diversity of plots and subplots. To me, this book was a composite of various small stories occuring at once, all tied together. There were stories of racial tensions, the strengths of friendships, the temptations of the criminal element and the confusions of being a teenager. It is well-written, and the various themes are deftly handled and linked. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading even on a casual basis.

A must-have for your Reiki library
These three authors have created a superb Reiki book, one of the very few available that discusses the factual history of Reiki. The history is important if one is to understand what Reiki is, and what it's not.

They write a good deal about what Reiki is, in fact, including procedures and practices not easily found elsewhere. They thoughtfully include pictures, diagrams, and careful descriptions that assist those who are unfamiliar with these forms of Reiki.

This would have rated five stars, had they sought out a better editor and included an index. These three authors deserve a better treatment of their work: the errors were distracting. An index is almost a must-have for a book like this--I will have to settle for sticky-note bookmarks for important passages or subjects.

Buy it anyway. It's one of the best Reiki resources I've seen, and it should be on the bookshelf of every teacher and practitioner.

Nice Overview of Reiki Healing & Traditions
This book carefully examines the roots of Reiki healing and the nature of energy healing, from a metaphysical and scientific perspective. It provides many beneficial insights and explanations, covering everything from chakras & subtle energy layers to shamanism, the meridians, and Taoist theories of yin/yang & 5 elements. In covering so much, the authors address some issues that need to be covered in more depth. For example, the chakra color associations listed are misleading, and the elements described are just one system which is not compared to other common metaphysical/alchemical systems. Nevertheless, this book is about the best at putting Reiki in a suitable context and explaining how and why it produces healing and transformation.

Everything you NEED to know about Reiki , Really!
After having taught Reiki for seven years, and practiced Reiki for ten years, I have read a lot of Reiki books , many have been disappointingly repeatative or to esoteric. This is one of two books I highly recommend to my students, the other being Diane Steins book, Essential Reiki. This book is well written by seekers of the genuine roots of the Reiki Healing tradition. If you want to understand the mind of Mikao Usui Sensai a little better, I think these writers have revealed the truth. I learned a lot myself and am very satisfied with the techniques taugh here. The author's reveal the origional manuals and techniques taught by the founders of this tradition . Is has been great confirmation of ideas I have intuited in my own practice and has taken me further up the road of my own spiritual path.

Spring Awakening

A Startling & Rare Translation of the German Classic!
Hughes' translation seems as rich, exciting & electric to modern readers as the original text must have been to audiences a century ago. It avoids the stiff awkwardness that former English translations have been known for, while still remaining true to Wedekind's dark symbolism and expressionistic overtones. A must-read for theater-lovers and practictioners alike.

Just as relevant today as a century ago!
Spring awakening explores the sexual awakening of teenage boys and girls in Germany in the late 1800's. It was shocking in its day, and still is somewhat today, despite the openness of our society.
The Frank Wedekind play has been updated, set to music, and will open as a major Broadway Musical in Spring, 2003. Watch for it, you will be blown away! And be sure to read the play first. You'll be amazed at how true the production is to Frank Wedekind's fine work.

Brilliant Play by a brilliant Writer
as an actor I have just performed this play I was Mechior one of the lead roles this book has a mixture of teenage experiences, a must read for all directors and actors if you ever get a chance to perform it then make sure you do

We thought Henny was funny.
We thought Rowley was funny. We liked it when he used the bathroom in the cave. While meanwhile Henny was trying to save another boy's life. Our whole group laughed when Henny asked Rowley what kind of music they played at the dentist and Rowley answered,"The Beatles!"We thought Henny was weird. We thought the book was great.

The Stray By Dick King Smith
My book is called The Stray, It takes place on the beach and at a nursing home and a house that a old lady runs away from the nursing home because she was bored at the nursing home. This book has lots of action. This is sad too because the old lady thought this boy at the beach was drowning and she thought it was a boy that she knew and she went out to the water and picked the boy up and carried him to the beach. The boy was saying let me go and this boy's dad said to this old lady let go of my son so the old lady let go of the boy and saw the boy that the old lady was looking for then she had a heart attack. Then she fell over on the beach. Then the boy's dad came to the beach and saw the old lady that he lived with on the sand of the beach.
I think everybody that likes to read should like this book because it has lots of action. I think all ages would like this book because it has kids in it that little kids would like and it has hard words in it for older people.
The author's main idea is a old lady running away and living with 4 kids and a mom and a dad. In the morning the kids and the old lady goes to the beach. and at night they go home and sleep.
I would give this book 15 stars if it was a scale from 0-15 and i would also give it two thumbs up.

pleasant
this book was a nice, pleasant, funny, book. though it is short, it has great characters like henny, rowley, and sweep. sweep is so cool.

Selected Prose of T.S. Eliot

Worthy collection
I found this book to be a useful compendium of essays that are usually scattered or incompletely represented in anthologies. It's an excellent supplement for a course on Eliot's work or to learn more about his critical perspectives and how they shifted over time. Very worthwhile.

prose from a great literary figure
A good selection of prose from T. S. Eliot. After years of reading, I still find his prose more effective and more useful than his poetry. (I know -- sheer heresy.) Eliot places great emphasis on The Tradition and on an impersonal approach to art, an emphasis which aspiring writers of today would be wise to heed. Like Matthew Arnold, Eliot's criticism is dogmatic, and right. The reader's only wish is that this collection included more.

What criticism should be.
Eliot's reputation has taken a beating in the last 20 years. He has been charged with anti-semitism, racism, elitism, and even misogyny. All of these charges are basically true. Nevertheless, as a critic his judgements are sound and dead-on. Read either "Traditon and the individual Talent" or "Dante" from this book and tell me if you think I am wrong. The book is worth the price for these two essays alone.

Not great
This fairy book has some wise philosophy about xenophobia and cruel leadership, but the charm is thin. Baum wrote it during the hiatus when he hoped he'd written his last Oz book. Fortunately, public demand defeated him.

Sky Islands review
Being a L.Frank Baum fan, I loved Sky Island. It is a enchanting book with the main characters as a charming little girl named Trot and a kind sailor-by name Capn' Bill. I loved this adventuras book, which involes a magic umbrella and a exciting run-in with some blularoos. I wont give the book away, but if your are thinking about giving this book to a child- (being 14 myself) I still love reading it, and its definetly worth the money and time.

IT'S ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I EVER READ!
Trot ,a young girl and her friends Cap'n Bill and Button Bright fly to Sky Island with a magic umbrella. There, they are made slaves by the Boolooroo of the Blues. Then they escape and go through the fog bank to the other side of the island, where the Pink People are going to throw them off the side of the island. Polychrome, the rainbow's daughter ,saves them.

Not for the beginner...
Solaris 7 Performance Administration Tools is by far one of the best books that I have found on performance tuning under Solaris. While it isn't as complete and readable as Accelerating AIX, it is the best book on the topic for Solaris. Frank Cervone spends a great deal of time discussing a number of important issues from capacity planning to optimizing RAID and hard drives. I have found the book indispensable for my job.

If you are a person who tends to read technical books from cover to cover you will find that a great deal of time is spent with theory. Mr. Cervone spends many pages discussing every topic theoretically, and even gives good descriptions of useful command flags and what things you should be tuning.

The big failure of the book, that I've found, is the lack of examples. For the most part, the books is devoid of this important tool. However, this book is not intended for the beginner. By the time that you get around to using this book you should be able to understand man pages and figuring out how to issue commands based on the archaic writings of Sun engineers (enough of my ranting on Sun man pages). So if you can read man pages you can figure out, based on the book, the commands you need to issue for maximum performance.

I highly recommend this book for any professional who uses Solaris daily for their livelihood, although I would hold off purchasing it if you are a novice Solaris admin.

Helpful
My friend at work bought this book. It proved to be a great investment. It explained how to fine tune your server to get the most out of it. Great buy for a sysadmin wanting performance.

Great for those searching for deeper Solaris understanding!
I have been a Solaris administrator for 6+ years now and this book has truly taken me to a new level.

Frank does an excellent job of conveying internals information where many authors would have failed by either going far too deep or staying far too shallow. It is definitely not a good book for beginners, though. An understanding of how a CPU works seems to have helped me out a lot, since he frequently refers to things like hardware registers and program location counters when explaining how Solaris handles certain situations.

This one belongs on the desk of any serious Admin. Hopefully he updates it soon for Solaris 8 and/or 9!

Stained Glass

Buckley does it again
Not quite as good as the first blackford oakes novel, but nonethless good. It really picked up at the end and made it worthwile. I really appreciate the wit in Buckley's writing as well as his ability to twist a plot right out from under you. The occasional intrusion by actual historical figures also makes the Oakes books very interesting.

Intelligent & Engaging
Buckley brings something rarely seen to the spy novel: intelligence and moral dilemma. Stained Glass also has wonderful characterization, witty dialogue, and humor. I highly recommend this unique approach to spy novel fans.

I am a Buckley fan

I must admit that I really like WFB's fiction, and I'm delighted that his publisher challenged him to try it.

The Blackford Oakes series relies on Buckley's own experience with the CIA, I'm sure. But the stories are more than depictions of black craftsmanship. Buckley has a fine ability to weave an interesting plot, and his characterizations are detailed and marvelous. He has spent time and effort bringing his characters to life, and giving them motivation and hstory.

There is, of course, a cycnical side to international espionage, and he has also portrayed that convincingly.

In this story, for example, the Soviets and the Americans actually cut cards to see which side will murder a heroic German character whose greatest desire it is to reunify his country.

I think it is amazing how well he has interwoven history and historical characters with fiction and his invented characters, and made it all hang together so convincingly.

Bill Buckley, sir, you are an amazing man and one to admire.
