Point/Counterpoint
Insightful, informative and thought provoking. In a sense a Maverick, by standing up to APICS and finding fault with MRP, Lilly provides a very good historical perspective on how he came to fulfill a "make to order" systems software need. In spite of a mild product "sell", it is must reading for anyone in manufacturing with throughput concerns. Is it up there with The Goal? No. But it certainly makes a very good companion to Goldratt's book and Everything I Learned About Manufacturing, I Learned in Joe's Garage. Jim Altfeld, Altfeld, Inc. Very interesting material. Unique among the books on Frank.
A few rare Frank images are reproduced, but this book is mainly a collection of documents and writings by or about Frank. This is the only source for much of this material: letters from a young Robert Frank to his parents about New York, for example; a facsimile of Frank's Guggenheim application; a police report made during Frank's trip across America; writing by Kerouac about a trip made with Frank to Florida. I recommend this book to any person interested in Robert Frank and already familiar with his work. Nevertheless, the few images here reproduced stand out like flowers.

The book written for childern describes boxing basics.
Rocky Graziano's book titled "Rocky's Boxing Book: Teaching the Art of Self Defense" provides a very brief overview of boxing techniques and strategies. Parts of the book are written in a conversational tone and describes basic punchs, offensive and defensive boxing strategies. The book is illustrated in drawings and not the color photos that you would expect in a book of this kind. All in all, the book will not have a knock-out appeal to childern or adults.

An important addition to the literature of hockey
Jack Lautier's history of the World Hockey Association is more than a nostalgia piece. It captures the freshness and excitement of a new professional sports league as it dares to challenge one of the monoliths of the industry in the 1970s. It also illustrates the foibles of new millionaires spending their money, sometimes without understanding the finer points of the game (as in one owner not recognizing a puck when he first saw one). "Same Name, Different Game" is filled with statistics and photographs of the very famous (like the young Wayne Gretzky and the aged Gordie Howe) and the not-so-famous who played in the WHA during its seven-year existence. With the help of WHA Statistician Frank Polnaszek, Lautier has produced a book that will make fans remember the league and its players well into the next century.

A manuscript worth reading
Samurai the invincible warriors is Captain F. Brinkley's personal manuscript on life in age of the samurai. The book examines every aspect of the warriors life. This book provides many answers to questaions about the samurai and his life. There are very few pictures in the book but Brinkley paints vivid images through the text of the manuscript. The manuscript is not complete but what has been is well worth the read.

An Intriguing Account of a Western Writer and His Editor
Eugene Manlove Rhodes spent the better part of his life in turn of the century untamed New Mexico as a horseman and cowman, and in his late life wrote western novels and short stories about his unique and exciting escapades. Most of his novels deal with real characters from the real Wild West, and the stories offer those of us interested in it a splendidly honest account of the "good men and true...humorous and happy and care-free and polite...But when it came to putting something over on them or their friends...these men were hard, and stern, tireless, loyal and grim, courageous and resourceful." Gene Rhodes knew men whose lives changed the Wild West and New Mexico, men like Pat Garrett, Senator Albert Fall, and Oliver Lee. He understood the wild land and the people who settled there but never tamed it. In this biography, author Frank M. Clark offers readers the letters that passed between Rhodes and his long-time friend, editor and publisher Charles Fletcher Lummis. Both were unusually gifted men, articulate, generous-spirited, and loyal; both knew the West and understood it in all its paradoxes and complexities. Author Clark brings Rhodes and Lummis to life in an intriguing way that makes for great reading for lovers of the West. Clark has the gift most biographers hope for: the ability to paint a generous yet honest view of his subjects. This biography is a must for every fan of the real Wild West and the true Western genre.

Good reference for toddler development
I purchased this book soon after my son's first birthday. It is organized with month by month descriptions of toddler development in language, physical skills and personality. I enjoyed reading the monthly sections throughout the year. It gave me some idea of what to expect, although the authors do point out that individual development is unpredictable. The book was written over 20 years ago and has a few dated references. (I don't think too many parents have their toddlers listening to phonograph records these days!)
