Off the Pedestal: Transforming the Business of Medicine
Published in Paperback by Making Medicine Work Inc (January, 1992)
Authors: Michael A. Greenberg and Frank Reuter
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

humanizes the medical profession
Dr. Greenberg has successfully brought the medical profession into focus, allowing the layman to realize that doctors are just people too; but at the same time telling doctors that their patients are human beings, and not just the source of their income. His insights, and observations, that the medical profession should do all it can to allow those who dont have the ability to pay, receive equal medical treatment as those who are more fortunate, is both refreshing and insightful. I highly reccomend this book.

Ohio Salt
This is a must-read if you like mysteries! The story is non-stop action with an unpredictable plot. Don't try to guess what is going to happen next....you will be fooled! Mr. Dupuy has managed to weave a lot of Polish history and even the Kennedy assasination into his book. His characters are all interesting and the reader gets to know them all quite well. I am looking forward to reading more of Mr. Dupuy's work.

The Oklahoma Petroleum Industry

Business, Ecology, Crime, Indians, & the Black Gold Rush
Superbly factual material on Oklahoma oil from 1880s to 1940s. Lots of early period data and lots of context for that data presented in a "just the facts" style -- locations, names, dates, technologies, economics & business drivers, disasters, prices, Indian compensation rates for oil leases, ecological mayhem, and boomtown sociology (complete with Prohibition, gangsters, tent revivals, gun-toting Methodist ministers, and the kidnapping of a rich oilman for ransom by Machine Gun Kelly). The Oklahoma oil boom & bust couldn't have a better documentarian than Franks. Many worthwhile photographs, too, but most are of poor quality and some primitive hand retouching reduces their value.

"A Must Have Reference Guide for the Serious Sinatra Fan"
This is a great encyclopedia for any Sinatra fan. It is a well-organized compilation of every song and album that Sinatra ever recorded. It also provides interesting tidbits about the recording sessions, arrangers, and the songs. In addition, the book chronicles his movies, television appearances, and numerous awards. As a Sinatra fanatic, I frequently use the book to reference back to songs, albums, and or movies that I have recently experienced.

Old Marsden is a great novel!
Cap Marsden is an old mountain man, who likes to tell his stories to his grandchildren. The oldest girl is kidnapped and Cap saddles up to track down the kidnappers. This novel is full of surprises and is never slow or dull. Marsden's love for his granddaughter is touching and sad. This book will pull at your heart strings. Cap Marsden is one of my favorite all time characters in western fiction. Old Marsden shows how far family will go to help their own. A great novel!

A TERRIFIC INSIGHT INTO THE LEGAL PROCESS AND ITS TRADITIONS
Judge Frank M. Coffin has written a book that provides insight to the workings of the appellate process in our legal tradition. He peppers it with historical perspectives of the European foundations from which our legal system evolved. It was enjoyable, easy to read and enlightening. For the novice attorney writing his first appeal, it should be required reading. For the experienced attorney in the field, the book is a clear candid reference source. For the citizen who wants knowledge of the mysteries of legal process beyond the trial court, it is must reading. I unequivocally recommend the book to all with the further comment that the book is not a law book per se, but rather a rich resource to understanding the appellate process and its function in the Anglo-American legal system.

On Appeal: Courts, Lawyering, and Judging

Author: Frank M. Coffin
Amazon base price: $27.50
Average review score:

a must for any lawyer working on an appeal
Judge Coffin gives an insider's view of the appellate process in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He tells exactly how his court processes an appeal from receipt of the briefs, through oral argument and on to the final decision. Along the way he tells what works and what does not in brief-writing and oral argument. Read this book before you sit down to write a brief, and then read it again the day before you appear for oral argument

On the Firing Line: The Public Life of Our Public Figures

On the Firing Line
On the Firing Line: The Publi Life of Our Public Figures written by William F. Buckley, Jr. is about the interviews Buckley had on the televison show "Firing Line." Lasting for twenty-three years and hosted by Buckley, this book contains parts of those interesting shows.

You'll find a whole host of dramatis personae in this well written tome. As with the televison show, this book has concise and cogent reviews as Buckley tries to interview the men and women who actually think seriously and rigorously about the way we govern ourselves. I found a dry wit and humor in spots all to entertain, challange, inevitablely chiding at times, but always wickedly brilliant.

The list of people in this book reads like a who's who and covers the major issues of our time, as Buckley discusses , uses rhetorical tactics and techniques with sometimes unpredictable results. You will laugh is spots as hilarious dialogues engage you. This is a valuable witty and learned tome with discourses making wonderful reading.

If you were a fan of "Firing Line," then you'll really like this book complete with Buckley's own annotations giving this book a flavor all its own.

Daring and wide-ranging look at exploring and settling Mars
Why is Mars the ideal goal for the space program? How will we get there, and how will we sustain ourselves once we make it? How can Mars even become a new, second home for humanity? This collection of essays offers to answer such questions as these, with dozens of contributions from a host of writers - of which I am one, so you know my bias. Although the best of them are NASA scientists, the only qualification in common among them all is enthusiasm. Sample article titles include, "Space Tourism After Dennis Tito," "The Long Range Mars Rover," and "Interstellar Panspermia Reconsidered: Implications for the Search for Life on Mars." The essays were selected from presentations given at three years' worth of meetings of the Mars Society. Taken together, the scope of this work provides worthwhile evidence of the drive and confidence in a bold human future in space, worthy to follow up on the glory days of Apollo, and offers a thought-provoking tour of the future, well-suited to invite further debate and discussion.
