Quantenmechanik

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics for physicists
This is an excellent introduction by Nobel-Prize winning Claude Cohen-Tannoudji. The aim of this book (two volumes!) is to explain quantum mechanics on a mathematically adequate level (Hilbert, Dirac, Fourier and co.). Read this book if you have the necessary mathematical background or if you are willing to get into it - but still: this is primarily a book for physicists and mathematicians, not for laymen! If you prefer a more "biological" (i.e more hand-waving, less math) introduction to quantum mechanics refer to e.g. the third volume by Richard Feynman.

Note that this is some kind of must-know book for quantum mechanics - at least over here in Europe. Many professors base their lectures on this book and recommend reading it for a better understanding of quantum mechanics because they don't have time to cover all the subjects covered in the book...

Great book! Highly recommend for those upgrading to 4.
A few weeks ago I was in my local computer warehouse (MicroCenter) and was browsing the books like I normally do. Actually, I was NOT planning to buy a thing. Just killing time. Then, I saw this book. The title caught my attention because it implied the book was only concerned with the features in 4. I've become so use to computer books trying to be all things to all versions of an application that I found this approach novel and the size not so daunting like many of the huge tomes on the market. Curious, I picked it up and started reading. I stood there for two hours reading...needless to say, I bought the book... I have since read the entire book and can only say WOW. Great book. Written in a light readable style. Explanations are clear and succinct. Would highly recommend it to the intermediate to advanced Quark user. Thanks to the authors! Good job! Will be looking for your future works.

Railroad Mergers History Analysis Insight

Excellent review of U.S. Railroad consolidation movement
Mergers have been a fact of life for the railroads of the United States since the 1836 integration of the Maryland & Delaware Railroad into the Wilmington & Susquehanna. More than 160 years later, Frank Wilner has written the definitive treatise on the subject of railroad unification in this country. Wilner is well qualified to write such a work, having worked in the railroad field for 30 years, most recently as chief of staff to Surface Transportation Board Vice Chairman Gus Owen. Mr. Wilner has written the definitive work about railroad mergers in the United States. Hopefully he is planning to produce a revised edition once the dust settles from the current UP fiasco and the CSX-NS acquisition is either approved or rejected by the Surface Transportation Board.

Texas Rattler Lore
I read this 'bout 20 years ago, and it was fascinating then, as it is now. Mr. Dobie brings to us the Texas legendry and lore surrounding the rattlesnake, both in humor and seriousness. Great book.

Wonderfully-written history of a time of electro-pioneering
1972 was a landmark year with the introduction of HP handheld calculators and portable computers. Back then, early programming pioneers (hobbyists, engineers, students, and others) embraced this new pre-PC technology with a vengence. These men and women found ways to push pocket calculators like the HP-35, HP-65, and others, to the limit and beyond what their creators had ever thought possible.

RCL 20 (Recall 20) is a warmly-written, collection of articles, stories, personal remembrances, and information of that time and of those wonderful people.

Tombstone speaks
From The Tombstone Epitaph ,Oct 1997,Vol.CXVIII,#10 ...The story of the ride, which comprises the basis for the book--there are interstices in which historical accounts from previous travelers are used--consists of Thoreau-like...reflections on man and nature, with plenty of Larry & Curly Ride The santa Fe Trail (note that they left Moe behind--he's the smart one) incidents to keep it from ever getting dull. The book is a good, fun read that works on several levels, from brain food to belly laughs....

Classic guide book!
This book contains loads of beautiful and accurate photos of the various fish, coral and plant life in and around Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I was first lent this book by an experienced diver who had already been to the Great Barrier Reef. There was also a copy on the dive boat I was on when diving the reef. I found it enormously helpful in filling out my dive logs because the photos look so much like the wildlife I just encountered on my dive. I was able to use the book when I couldn't remember the names of various fish and animals I wanted to note in my log. It's very accurate; stunning photography. If you want to know what the reef looks like or want to refresh your memory this is the source! I'm also surprised about the limited availability of this book considering the huge amount of divers the reef attracts.
