New insights will always spark creativity
I have read many books on the doors and Jim and have been draw into to their world since 1995. During that time I read voraciously about the Doors and even took it a step farther to read Blake, Kerouac, Castaneda, Nietzsche, Rimbaud and other literary influences of Jim's. In order to know anyone you have to know what they know. I have tried to figure out what made Jim tick as best as I could and looked for books that showed this. This book peeled back the layers and showed Jim in the most real sense without sensationalizing the myth like Bonehead Stone did in the Doors movie. The book is a an account by all kinds of people that were close or not close to Jim. The author was one of Jim's friends from UCLA before the fame gave him too many so called friends. Frank has done an exellent job of getting the people he interviewed to say something meaningful about Jim and this goes along with many great photos of tooR. Many Doors books have come and gone over the years but this one I have had since 1996 and have read dozens of times over the years because the information contained in it is so good you can gain new insights as you figure out more things about Jim. The book is genuine and honest with no motives other than really trying to capture what Jim was like for people who have never had the chance to meet him. I can't believe the book is out of print but if you happen across it get it, it will be worth it...

Motivating Your Students: Before You Can Teach Them, You Have to Reach Them

A new "take" on student motivation.
I am the author. I believe that the idea of "motivating" someone else is misleading. My experience of working with students tells me that one is most successful when one is able to determine what the student's motivations already are and enlisting those motivations by helping make the connections to what we are trying to learn.

I've had years of experience as a classroom teacher on the high school level and on the college level as a professor of educational psychology. This book is the summation of much that I've learned along that path.

Thrilling to the last drop
I wish Bidart were more prolific, but on the bright side, each rare collection is an irresistible distillation of some thought-elixir. "Music Like Dirt" treats how humans are essentially art-making, art-sharing creatures. Since this is Bidart, we get both the good and evil consequences of this impulse - the grotesques along with the geniuses - in language that is simple, clear, but also finely wrought and deeply emotional.

Note that this is a chapbook, so even though it's beautifully printed it still has something of a flimsy feeling... It's perfectly sized and shaped to be a little gift to the favorite creative or artistic person in your life.

The real standouts in the collection, "For the Twentieth Century," "Advice to the Players," and "Lament for the Makers," are all available online, albeit coarsened by lousy layout and banner ads. Don't just read them quickly at your desk; print them out and read them somewhere peaceful in solitude, and you will probably end up wanting to buy the book anyway, they're that good.

Real English Computer Talk
Finally a book in real English that uses concrete words to explain computer concepts. Excellent material on MVS giving both CLEAR overview and detail. Excellent insight on connectivity problems/options and what vendors' products address which problems. If you like books that BUILD ON CONCRETE CONCEPTS and are arranged in an orderly, hierarchial fashion, this is the book.

Oh, did I mention the content is impecable? Old MVS guys? Gotta have this one.

tricky games by a master of the swindle
the author was usa champion for many years and collected the scalps of the greats including lasker, capablanca ,nimzowitsch, rubinstein, schlechter and tarrasch. sometimes marshall was strategically outplayed but he was always ready with a tactical riposte which cd bowl his opponent over. a highly enjoyable book and the games are explained in a jovial fireside manner.

Outstanding
My son received this book for his first communion. He enjoyed it so much he made a prayer table to keep it on. Inside this book you will find pages for your child to write in, pictures that he/she can store, and beautifully displayed colored pictures of that very special day. First on my list to buy!

Moving autobiogragphy...
This is a fantastic book! I enjoy the genre of autobiography and have read quite a few, and I have to say this is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read.

The overcoming of adversity, the indictment of slavery, the dispelling of the Gone-With-The-Wind myth and fantasy of slavery, the revealment of the horror and suffering, the hand-over-hand determination of self-respect and manhood, the thrilling escape to freedom -- the book is stunning. Yet, refreshingly, the book has none of the self-promoting egocentric attitude of some autobiographies, the book is just stunningly well and plainly written in content. Also of interest are the 2 prefaces.

I heard the audio book version of this, and it was well-spoken by the narrator.

Highly recommended.
