Wauck's translation of the Good News is superb, demonstrating that clarity, accuracy, and elegance need not be inconsistent.

I have read dozens of textbooks in this genre, but I found this book quite refreshing. Its obvious the author has actually handled numerous threat of violence situations. The advice and coaching is realistic and balanced, not academic and generic. I would recommend this book to any manager, security person, human resources person, or risk manager who wants a "hands on" and pragmatic approach to dealing with difficult situations. Well done!

If you've read computational geometry textbooks (like the Preparata-Shamos, or the recent and great "Dutch" book by de Berg et al.), and liked the material, here's your chance to delve into the more mathematical and analytical aspect of the topic. This book is not for an undergraduate class, but its thorough yet readable treatment of arrangements or Voronoi diagrams will bring you up to speed for reading technical articles or more elaborate references (like Edelsbrunner's monograph). The scope is wider than Edelsbrunner's, even though fewer or less technical results appear. For instance, there is an analysis of the complexity of the union of triangles in space (based on recent research results).

The book takes the viewpoint of randomized algorithms, which are very simple to describe and implement, and provides general tools for their analysis (on-line or off-line dynamic algorithm). It is based in five parts around geometric structures (polytopes, arrangements, Voronoi diagrams) with two introductory parts (algorithms, randomized analysis -- general theorems).

Many of the algorithms and problems stem from robotics and motion planning. There are many exercises, with either an "algorithmic" interface, or a concrete problem-solving presentation.

Just a fantastic resource. Lane and Wallace really put together a high-quality text that explains all there is to know about Osteoarthritis. I have been searching for more information on this subject for years, and have constantly been frustrated and confused. "All About Osteoarthritis" puts everything together in a clear, coherent fashion and it is easily the most comprehensive source on this disabling condition that I have read. If you have Osteoarthritis, or know someone with it, then I highly recommend this book.

It is very timely given the interest in distance learning, web-based training, and the Internet as a delivery medium for all types of education. When leaders like John Chambers of Cisco say "eLearning is the next Killer App", "eLearning will make email look like a rounding error", and "the Internet and learning are the great equalizers", organizations have to take notice.

This book provides a blueprint of what an organization has to do to create a "positive learning environment". It addresses the roles of senior management, middle management, trainers, and learners in adapting to "independent, self-directed learning". It's just under 200 pages and an easy read.
