One of the best picture books ever about these events
Daniel Weinberg is a gentleman and a scholar, as well as the proprietor of the Abraham Lincoln Bookshop in Chicago. His great talent for acquiring and interpreting artifacts of the Lincoln era shines in this book, which includes some of the best-ever images ever published of the conspirators who helped John Wilkes Booth plan an attempted kidnapping of President Lincoln, and, later, assisted Booth in aspects of his murder plot in April 1865. Weinberg and his fellow historian (James Swanson, who contributes a masterful text, setting the pictures in context) provide a richly illustrated historical tapestry in this generously made coffeetable book. If you want to know what life was like after their arrest for David Herold, Sam Arnold, Samuel Mudd, Lewis Powell and their cohorts, you need look no further than this extraordinary volume. Any Lincoln library that does not include this book lacks an essential new cornerstone.

Absolutely the BEST book I've ever seen on this subject!
On April 13th I went on a John Wilkes Booth Escape Route tour in
Clinton, Maryland, and just by sheer luck, Mr. Swanson was in attendance and though it was the 3rd time I'd been on the tour, it was the best. He is a most enthralling person and though I didn't know who he was for almost an hour, he was obviously very knowlegeable on the subject of the assassination. He was kind enough to sign a copy of his book for me that I purchased in the Surratt Society bookstore and wrote a very lengthy and personal note in it-but I'm rambling- The book is simply fabulous-The text is extremely informative and the photos are the best I've ever seen-some are very rare and have never been published before-This book is a MUST for anyone interseted in either the Civil War or the Lincoln assassination- it's definitley top drawer and well worth ever cent-I can't recommend it highly enough!

Filled with period photographs and historical records
Lincoln's Assassins: Their Trial And Execution is a cold, clear look at the aftermath of a crime that forever changed American history. President Lincoln's assassination and the subsequent execution of his killer, John Wilkes Booth, is a well known event, but afterward, in the spring and summer of 1865, a military commission tried eight other people as conspirators in Booth's plot to murder Lincoln and other officials. Filled with period photographs and historical records as well as comprehensive, detailed text, Lincoln's Assassins is a fascinating and even disturbing close analysis of a time of turmoil and mourning across America. A welcome and invaluable addition to Lincoln historical studies and reference collections.

Literature Circles
A tremendous help if you are considering introducing lit circles into your reading program. Especially important were templates for discussion group roles and a most helpful FAQ section. This book is all you need to get started. Easy to understand and implement.

Awesome!
Harvey Daniels' book, Literature Circles, allowed me to start lit. circles in my classroom. I never would have tried this cutting edge educational technique without his book. He gives advice and worksheets, but also lets real teachers talk for themselves and how it works in their classrooms. The book also details, through real life examples, how lit. circles can work in the K-12 curriculum of any classroom, and in any school. This is an excellent book for lit. circle beginners.

A superb guide to implementing Literature Circles!
In this book, Harvey Daniels provides a step-by-step approach to implementing Literature Circles in any classroom. After experimenting with many different approaches to book discussion groups, I found this book and everything just fell into place! My students were very enthusiastic when I began to implement the techniques described by Harvey Daniels. I was amazed to see them discuss books with such excitement and genuine interest. They enjoyed choosing books according to their interests and leading their own discussion groups. I have recommended this book to many teachers since I discovered it last year. It is the most comprehensive and well-written book I have found on the topic of Literature Circles.

Everything I needed to know.
I took a few years off from diagnostic radiology, but decided to return to work after 9-11. The state of Florida required I take the SPEX exam. I got 51 on their sample questions, about what I would expect from a non radiologist trying to read xrays. Some review seemed in order, so I studied this book and took a course. Most things I read nowadays are either quite technical, written in a defensive pose so that most of what they say is not what I want to read, or "popular," written so as to fill an entire book with a single idea. It was most refreshing to read something written simply to get the information across as quickly and as accurately as possible. My English teachers would call that "Good Writing." The pearls were helpful. It was a good read and a help in getting back into the harness. I passed with a score of 81.

Not bad....Not bad at all..... ;-)
Very impressive and very helpful. This is what I have been looking for. Much easier to use than the 5-Minute Consult and much more succinct. The "med-esse" is a bit confusing at times but after a while it becomes 2nd nature. I find myself writing little notes in the margins and the book has been quite helpful. Like the reviewer before me said, much more than hot ears and sore throats.

If you're looking for a "user" in your practice....this may be it.

Completely a reference books. No pics. No graphs. Each title has references from known pubs like the New England Journal. Spiral bound. Pages rip out a bit too easy but that is because the book is a lot bigger than the title suggests. It is not a lab coat book. It is a full reference text meaning if you find it Washington Manual or the 5-Minute Consult there is probably a reference in this book. Takes just a few minutes or less to review each subject.

Good and useful. Isn't that what we want in medicine?

More than hot ears and sore throats!!!
Don't be fooled by the title. This is a comprehensive resource book of considerable scholarship, with up-to-date references and state-of-the-art notes on therapy. For its depth, references, and pearls, it is far better a resource than the Barnes Manual for internists, family practitioners, and academicians who find themselves confronted with sick patients.

Action-packed teen novel
I have read this book. It's got action, excitement, and exotic locations. Move over Charlie's Angels, the Spy Girls are right on your tail. These girls can make James Bond proud. There should be more books of the series and more books of this type. Major props to the writer of the series. Keep up the good work.

Im just going o review the facts
I LOVED THIS BOOK! Maybe I should explain my self. To make along story short, I read a book a day. I know your thinking "WHATA BUNCH OF FLUFF! " well, I read this book in a half a day.the cover of the book looks like a peice of childish nonsense, but never juge a book by its cover. these girls are are pretty darn clever to come up with such an intersting book.READ IT!

great and exciting
This book (and the rest of the series) is outstanding! I read the whole thing in one single day. I couldn't put it done. It's ation filled throughout the whole book! I love the adventures the Spy Girls go on. This book is one of my favorites.

Well written,a must read for any member of the CRC.
This book is hard to put down.If you were raised in the world of the CRC the content can be disturbing but it touches on issues that should be addressed and delt with. It's time to pull our heads out of the sand and this book uses perfect examples of what the leaders of the CRC have been side stepping for too long.

An excellent examination of the level of hate in America
Daniel Plasman does a wonderful job of thoughtfully exposing the complex nature of religious hatred. He brilliantly unmasks the rampent hypocracy that exists throughout mainstream American religion. Additionally, he shows the human toll that this hatred can exact. This book is a page turner with a heart -- one which should be read throughout the heartland and into the city.

Engrossing and emotional charged
This is a very well written book for a first time author. The characters are well developed and by the end of the book you feel you know them on a very personal level. There are suprises at every turn and Plasman teaches such a wonderful and long overdo morality lesson to his readers. The thing I liked best about this book is how Plasman humanized the main characters, who are ministers, so well. These characters, who are figureheads of their community, make some shocking choices that many would not dare to believe possible. This book is a wonderful, fast-paced read.

The luck of Huemac is great
The book "The Luck of Huemac" by Daniel Peters is one of the most extraordinary
Books I have ever had the privilege to read. The story records the struggle by his family to control the city of Tenocticlan and in the shadows Huemac Born under the Sign of the Rabbit and destined to by unlucky grows to be a legendary man. Huemac combats fierce opponents on the ball court and battlefield, learns the ancient lore of the priests and confronts the mysterious white gods. This story is not only a adventure story but also a heart touching story about Huemac's family over one century. Daniel peters flings you in to a exotic world totally alien to your mind the final century of the Aztec empire's supremacy in Mexico. I say as J.R.R. Toielkien is to Fantasy and Frank Herbert is to Sci-Fi Daniel Peters is the master of Historical Fiction by Mike

Definitely Delivered
This was a good book. I've read all three Aztec books by Gary Jennings and was left wanting more. This book delivered. It's an easy way to get a lot history inside a great story.

A very enjoyable book!
I have read all of Mr. Peters books and I have not been disapointed. You don't have to be a scholar in order to enjoy "The Luck of Huemac". The fall of the Aztec Empire is a topic that has inspired many authors, including Peter Daniels. Huemac, an "unlucky" Mexica marked from birth, ironically evades death and misfortune only to witness the end of his world and the death of their gods. If you liked this book, you should read also Gary Jennings' "Aztec" (an equally impresive book)or "The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico" by Bernal Diaz del Castillo( this is a historical chronicle by one of Hernan Cortez's captains who participated in the Conquest). "The Luck of Huemac" is quality reading and fiction literature at its best!

The Meditative Mind: The Varieties of Meditative Experience
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins Publishers (11 December, 1989)
Authors: Daniel Goleman Ph D and Ram Dass
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

A complete path
I found this book 5 years ago and have really not found another book which is better at describing complete path with such clarity, and richness. I think this book is extremely helpful for all meditators who are interested in seeing where they are on the path. For without a map, it is extremely easy for any meditator to become lost and not make any real progress. This book in my opinion can also be used to assess the presence of authentic teachers, someone who has traversed at least 4 levels of absorption, have seen validity attachment in cause of suffering, have begun purification of their bodies as well as their minds, and have experienced true emptiness and not fallen into attachment afterwards.

Scientific study of meditation
Good overall book of meditation. Goleman makes the distinction between the two major types of meditation: Concentration and Mindfulness. He also gives a pretty thorough description of the Visuddhimagga mind maps. He goes on to describe Hindu Bhaki, Jewish Kabblah, Christian Hesychasm, Sufism, TM, Ashtanga, Tantra and Kundalini Yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, Zen, Gurdjeiff and Krishnamurti

Exceptionally Clear Presentation of Meditation
1. The distinction between concentration and mindfulness as forms of practice has never in my reading experience been so clearly stated. (My meditation library is extensive and my practice is 7 years old.) 2. The stages of insight work -- also, the clearest presentation in my reading experience. Particularly helpful were the discussions on "visions" (p. 12) and pseudonirvana (p. 26). 3. Part IV: The Psychology of Meditation -- This is a gem. Ties in beautifully with _Emotional Intelligence_ (another Goleman treasure). The "altered states or altered traits" of consciousness discussion (pg. 172-5) is the best explanation of the "3rd foundation of mindfulness" I have seen. Summary: If you are interested in how your practice fits into the grand scheme of practices or looking for a menu to chose from, this is the book. If you want a clarification of the path at the center of all practices, no where else have I seen a better presentation.

This! ! is a seven star book as is _Emotional Intelligence_.

Essential reading for the damned
Dr. Brown uses powerful and compelling logic and guides the reader step by step towards salvation. As a recovering Roman Catholic Satanist, I shudder to think what might have been my fate had I remained in that Tantric yoga class that I had enrolled in at the local Community College.

Dr. Brown gives clear and concise instructions for becoming an effective deliverance worker by using such common household products as oils, tounges, cameras and tape recorders. Chapters on mass deliverance and demon assessment measures will appeal to the advanced student. Her four step method for ridding your home of demons is must read material for the parents of any lust-filled, rock music addicted, fantasy role-play possesed teen.

The call is clear: Christians, prepare for war!

Choose to Learn from Others Experiences
Dr. Rebecca Brown not only alerts about what's going on in the spiritual world around but, she gives examples and supports her statements with The Scripture while she empowers the reader to have his/her own opinions and experiences.

Who knows? NASA!
It really looks like a civilization existed on Mars, but the only way to know for sure is to go there. Is NASA hidding the truth? If you found out NASA hid the truth all this time would you be supprised.

Strong scientific case for artificiality
Carlotto brings state of the art image analysis techniques to bear on the enigmatic objects of Mars' Cydonia region. He shows that there is a high degree of probability for artificiality, something that NASA and Michael Malin vigorously deny - to this day. This book is a must-read for any serious student of the artificiality hypothesis.

The standard reference for extraterrestrial archaeologists
Mark Carlotto's book is a must-buy. Every page is a discovery in itself; the author makes his case, and makes it extremely well: Mars is probably home to non-natural features well within our technological ability to investigate (preferably through manned exploration).

"The Martian Enigmas" is a satisfying piece of popular science that effectively sounds the death toll for "skeptics" who insist it's all our imaginations.
