A detailed information for understanding oxidative stress
The book organizes the information in order to understand how the oxygen can rose into the reactive oxygen species (ROS), why are they important and how when uncontrolled they can be harmful. It goes over a variety of items about the action of these ROS and the mechanisms that have been developed in living organisms to keep them in balance. The authors are experts in the field and have made an extremely good effort to coordinate this multiauthorial book. This book is the most complete one in the subject and covers very recent data which makes it as a "must read" for graduate and postgraduate students and even researchers in the field.

An excellent collection by a very diverse group of writers.
I begin by admitting some prejudice: I am one of the authors included, and the name of the volume was taken from my essay (publisher's choice, not my pushiness!) This is an excellent collection, including Mailer, Liebling, Oates, and many others. Not quite the wonderful cornucopia that The Fireside Book of Boxing was some 30 or 40 years ago (that was one of the great sports' anthologies of all time), but still well worth owning. (I don't get any royalties, honest!)

Tried various other books and couldn't figure out how to start. This book is wonderful. In one day you can learn a lot. Can go home feeling great that you learnt something useful.

Applause for Rebel Without Applause
It is difficult for me to be objective, as I know Whitefeather personally, but as you read this book, her amazing words shines out at you from the pages. She manages to say all of the "expected" things(such as live each day as your last) in the most unexpected ways. She has a full understanding that life is not always fun, not always happy, and most of all not always easy.

Once you start reading Rebel Without applause you will no be able to put the book down.

Practicing architecture at the end of the 20th century
This is a wonderful little book, full of insights and humor about the nature of architectural practice at the end of the 20th century. Mr Solomon has a marvellous way with words. His essays on architecture, urban design and planning are an important statement about the mess we have created of our environment and how it came about. As one of the founders of the New Urbanism movement Mr Solomon is trying to establish a new direction and reach out to other professions and decision makers to change the way we design and plan our communities.

rigorous exploration of how to end inequality
All the contributors to this volume are seriously committed to solving the persistent riddle of economic inequality in advanced economies as well as preventing the undermining of democracy by the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few. To this end, they set out bold proposals which transcend the pitfalls of both corporate capitalism and the now defunct, East European socialisms. Issues such as property rights, housing, school choice, political associations, economic efficiency and the benefits of asset redistribution are all discussed with rigor and clarity by the several contributors. All the topics are excellent counterblasts to the current aopologists for Conservative policies in the era of 'globalization'. This one is a must for all those concerned about the future of economic justice and the evolution of democratic societies.
