France from the Air
This is an oversized book suitable for the coffee table. There are 157 beautiful pictures of France taken from the air. Many of the pictures are double paged in size. The book provides an excellent pictorial overview of France as it covers every region of France.
Adults and young adults will be amazed.

Leading commentary on a legal legend--simply wonderful.
Simply a wonderful read. If ever you have encountered Bacon, Prof. Coquillette of Boston College Law School will delight you with his historical and jurisprudential analysis of one of the heavyweights of English legal and political history. Coquillette's prose dances as he works through the twists and turns of Bacon's life, times, and master works. A "must read" for the serious student of Anglo-American legal thought

new dimension about the will to knowledge
in this book, deleuze demonstrates that modern knowledge is no longer powered by dialectics or rationale, but by human sensuality. bacon's work is a good example to show that how art owns the ability to go beyond discourses.

Surprisingly entertaining and informative...
I didn't have much in the way of expectations for this book but in all seriousness I was as surprised as anyone could possibly be at how immensely entertaining and informative it is. Great pictures throughout, humourous anecdotes, backstage shenanigans. I'm a member of the International Sinatra Society and I have just about every note Frank Sinatra ever sang on cd and I take my fandom pretty seriously. I would never intentionally steer a fellow Sinatra fan the wrong way (read my scathing review of Donald Clarke's book) and I give you my word of honour that you will experience not a single moment of disappointment in the purchase of this book.

Freak culture; life-style and politics
Published in Unknown Binding by Dutton (1972)

Fascinating coverage of the 1960's youth movement
A terrific read for those who are interested in the youth
movements of the late 60's. Highly readible and entertaining
(I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the R. Crumb comix) in
spite of the fact that it was originally written as a
sociological commentary in 1972. Foss' comments regarding how the information age has affected the youth movement is
surprisingly apt even today. He covers such youth movement
icons such as Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Mario Savio, and
the like. However, what I found highly informative was
how Foss draws connections between 1960's youth movements,
the "New Left" movements, and earlier 1920's labor movements.
These connections obviously set the stage, and are either
ignored or covered in agonizing detail by other books on the
topic. Foss reaches a nice balance, and draws conclusions
that are bound to make you think.

Great Eye's
My son loves this book as well as Friends of a Feather by Cohn/Sullivan. The repeated phrases make him laugh but can sometimes be a little tounge tying espically if you are tired. The google eyes are also fun for him to watch as they move around.

If you want to reclaim your child from grandparents just ask them to read this book to them and you will have your child back within 2 pages.

A Fascinating set of stories
Alcott is mostly remembered for her wholesome books for children, but she shows another side with her set of melodramatic and suspenseful stories. Many are tragic, while a few have happy endings, but all will keep a reader interested

From Sound to Synapse: Physiology of the Mammalian Ear
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (15 January, 1998)
Author: C. Daniel Geisler
Amazon base price: $70.95

How we hear
"From Sound to Synapse" describes the transformation of sound waves into neural impulses that is performed by the mammalian ear. The story begins with the arrival of sound waves at the external ear and eventually leads to a characterization of the response of primary auditory neurons to speech sounds. Along the way, the basic mechanisms of the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear are discussed, using experimental observations of vertebrate ears and computed results of theoretical models to illustrate the discussion. Geisler's fascination with the mammalian ear is evident in the way he reveals new insights to the reader. His comprehensive overview provides a good theoretical basis for understanding the various processes involved in hearing.

The book is written in a style that does not require the reader to have a strong scientific background. Topics are introduced in a non-technical manner and mathematical equations are used sparingly. Appendices are provided to acquaint the reader with background topics such as Fourier theory, acoustic resonances, and impedance. Other background information is introduced in text, as needed.

Insightful and challenging work on science and policy
Not for the thin-skinned! This is a thoughtful and convincing set of arguments as to how and why the U.S. scientific research system often fails to serve the public interest. We'd all be better off if researchers and policy-makers absorbed the lessons in this work.
