An excellent read for amateur and professional alike!
This book, by legendary explorer Thor Heyerdahl and two archaeologist colleagues, has something for everyone! Tucume is a large site full of adobe pyramids on the north coast of Peru. The site dates to about 1000-1540 AD and in its later years was conquered by the Chimu and then the Inca before falling to ruins after the Spanish Conquest. In the book, Heyerdahl recounts his adventures in Peru in his usual, inimitable style, while the two archaeologists (one American and one Peruvian) discuss the archaeological finds at this fabulous site. The book is full of drawings and photos, many in color. Some of the artifacts are truly spectavular, but just as interesting are the insights into how archaeologists put together a picture of the past from the dusty bits and pieces left in this desert center. Whether you are a fan of Kon-Tiki or interested in the details of Peru's ancient past, this is the book for you

Inspirational ... Very Good!
I read this little book a long time ago. It was beautiful and inspirational. It inspired me to want to know something about functional analysis ( now I do) and also got to the essence of things very simply. It is one of the best little books I have ever read.

It's good. It's really, really good!
It's actually a children's book but I feel like a kid anyway, so hey. I think kids (ages 6-7) would really enjoy this story, and come away inspired by simple faith in a mighty God. My favorite thing is how the author expresses the important ideas in this story so skillfully and yet so simply. It's not a dramatic "miracle" story, it's just a story of trust and genuine friendship with God -- the rest and peace that comes from knowing that He is in control and has our best good in mind, and the influence that such obvious peace has on those around us. I can tell the author has a good understanding of the people of Papua New Guinea and I loved the pencil-sketch illustrations. It made me feel like I was right there in the bush with Kuri -- like I could go sit down with my friends in their bush houses and talk the night away. . . I miss PNG. This is an excellent missionary story, based on true events, that shows how Christianity can drastically change man's understanding of the world around him and forever make him thankful for taking that first step away from the old ways. . . ."Taste and see that the Lord is good. . ."

The Forgotten Heroes
A book such as Quiet Heroes is long overdue. It pays tribute to an easily forgotten group of quiet heroes, Navy Nurses, that quietly continue, even to this day, to provide dedicated care and comfort to our war casualties. Books are constantly written of the combat heroes, combat commanders, pilots, medal winners and even all their support personnel...until you come to the one class of heroe no one remembers, the Navy Nurse. By Ms. Omori focusing on the Navy Nurses of the Korean War (1950-1953) she captures an era on the brink of passing into our memories without tribute or recognition. Wonderfully supplemented with actual photographs and interviews of the quiet heroes themselves, the book pays that tribute long overdue. A must read for anyone interested in our nation's history and the agony suffered during the Korean Conflict.

Very helpful and motivating
After years of reading books that reference Christian writers like Clement and Bernard of Clairvaux, this Cliff Notes style booklet provided just what I needed -- an introduction to classic Christian references from the Didache to Billy Graham. It stimulated my interest enough to read Watchman Nee and Bonaventure, Andrew Murray and Sheldon. This has provided quite a boost to my devotional life and day-to-day fellowship with the Lord.

JUST ABOUT!
The mystery moves kind of slow but the characters are really decent.
Sheriff Joe Mountain, a Native American, found his woman of mystery erupting out of a downpour on a dark and stormy night. "Rain" was a natural name to give to his Jane Doe.

As he tried to help find out who his "Rain" was the dead ends and frustrations piled up. And because of Joe's one excursion into a nasty marriage he refused to acknowledge his attraction to "Rain".

"Rain" was troubled by recurring nightmares and brief flashes of knowledge? She found herself feeling safe and secure when Joe was around and couldn't understand why he seemed to withdraw at times.

Joe's friend, Dr. Cruz Martinez, advised "Rain" to just let her memories happen. "Rain" as so sure that everything would turn out right if only she could find out who she was.

I had a few inklings but did not really figure out the true mystery until I read it. The answers were really intrigueing but seemed to have a few holes in the story but that is probably just the way I read it.
A very enjoyable story with a --M.

The Rainbow Circle of Excellence: Lessons from a Championship Season
Published in Paperback by Watermark Publishing LLC (October, 2001)
Authors: Riley Wallace, Michael D'Andrea, and Judy Daniels
Amazon base price: $14.95

A great book for ball players and fans
Riley Wallace, the long-time head basketbal coach at the University of Hawai'i, is one of college basketball's best. What's more, Wallace is one of the true class acts in sports.

This book is a reflection of all that Wallace is, what he stands for and how he coaches. It is a very valuable tool for communicating to the young ballplayer (middle school and high school players should read this over and over), as well as provides insight for the basketball fan.

Highly recommended.
