Best book on teenage pregnancy
What a subtle, beautiful, thought-provoking book. Indispensible for understanding how teenage pregnancy shapes the lives of young people. Offers a poignant view of a variety of American teens facing parenthood, of different classes, different races, different religions and regions. Would be particularly valuable for high-school researchers, or as a complement to drier, more statistical or policy-oriented analyses.

Fantastic photographs which capture your heart and mind
The photographs are fantastic and will capture your heart and mind. The pictures communicate in a way words never could. You will feel like you know and understand these young mothers.

Read of a shared love of travel and literature
Toward the end of her life, Edith Wharton, author of Ethan Frome, The Age of Innocence, The Buccaneers, held a close and personal friendship with author Louis Bromfield, author of Early Autumn, The Farm, and The Rains Came, while at the peak of his literary career. Despite the disparity of age and background (Bromfield was 34 years Wharton's junior), they became "pen pals" and intellectual intimates. Yrs., Ever Affly is a collection of their correspondence between 1931 and 1937, the year of Wharton's death. We read of Wharton and Bromfield's mutual devotion to horticultural pursuits, their observations of the social/political milieu of American and France during the 1930s, literary gossip of their day, the publishing climate of the Depression era, and a shared love of travel and literature. These 32 letters, one postcard, and a note from Wharton's secretary to Bromfield's wife, provide an intimate insight into the private worlds of two distinguished writers. Yrs., Ever Affly is "must" reading for students of the writings of Edith Wharton, Louis Bromfield, and the literary, intellectual, and publishing climate of the 1930s.

"It has become a prized possession..."
Next, speaking of books, is a few words about "Yrs. Ever Affly", the correspondence of Edith Wharton and Louis Bromfield, edited by Daniel Bratton. Shirl had told me that Danny was in the process of publishing this book, so when it came out I sent for a copy, and it has become a prized possession. Wharton has longtime been a favorite of mine, and I have read and liked some Bromfield, but his later novels leave something to be desired!

But the two, Wharton and Bromfield, shared a friendship when they lived in Europe, and much of their interests were about their wonderful gardens. Their letters touch on their writings and the fame they have achieved, (she asks for advice and he gives it) but you need to love gardening to really appreciate the book. The format is such a pleasure. The paper, the type and the many illustrations and drawings are joy. A special treat for me, was the reprint of the tribute to Wharton, written by Bromfield. The writing is superb, and I forgave him (Bromfield) all the stuff he later wrote to try to keep Malabar solvent.

Best of all is that this fine book was edited (from much research) by Shirl and Dave's boy. I feel like a proud great aunt to someone I've never seen.

stern tells it twice again
Daniel Stern has done it again with this next volume of his "twice told tales," re-visitations of poems and stories and symphonies which he manages to transform into gorgeous fictions. These are not mere dramatizations; they are full metamorphoses. In a hilarious example, the story "A Man of Sorrows and Acquainted with Grief," Stern uses Bach's THE PASSION ACCORDING TO ST. JOHN to leap into, of all things, small-town born-again Christian Texas...as seen from the point-of-view of a Jewish high-school orchestra director who gets pulled over for speeding on the interstate.

The stories also "riff" off of Robert Frost poems, Wallace Stevens' "The Man on the Dump", W.B. Yeats' "The Second Coming" and even Borges.

These are stylish and smart, always moving and masterfully composed. Bravo, Stern!

For the Adventurer Who Likes to Plan...
I found this book to be extremely helpful. It makes planning a hiking agenda easy. Great maps and detailed overviews. This book gives you the confidence to allow you to explore more of New Hampshire. No matter which trail you decide to take on...you will know what to expect. Even gives guides to "rainy day" hikes. The only drawback is that you will want to pack it with you!

She does it again!
Mary McGowan,M.D., well known and highly respected expert on the treatment of lipids, previously wrote an extremely helpful book titled: "Heartfitness for Life".(Read the customer reviews for that book!). Among the many areas she covers are treatment for homocysteine, for which many physicians don't bother to test, and for LPa,which is "badder" than the "bad" cholesterol,LDL. Too many physicians have no idea what LPa is, and some actually argue against testing for it, as they have no idea how to treat it. In this her latest book, she adds additional information on lowering LPa. The book is full of new, clearly explained practical information. I can't recommend it too highly, for anyone, beginner or long time learner having concerns about their lipid status. It should be required reading for cardiologists, internists, and family physicians, who could use this book as a resource for their patients, and in many cases for themselves.

Learn Language and History at the same Time
I'm a German and got this book as a gift - and it hit the spot. Contains lots of photos and all texts side by side in English and German. Would be great for anyone learning the language as well as for anyone who wants a concise and fun to read history of the new Germany. Not a pocketbook, though - a large, stable shelf is recommended.

Great Book
Loved it! Not only funny but had many great points to make. You can learn project management while relating to mistakes that happened in past projects that you may have worked on or been associated with. If you're a manager or lead, the book is a great, concise guide, pointing out things to avoid in managing your next project.  In addition, the book gives managers and developers a heads up as to whether or not they should join a particular project team.  Also applicable to non-software people managers.

If you want to test for your A.B. ticket, buy and read both of these books (1&2). They are the best I've seen or heard about. Some old sailors told me about them, I used them and passed.
