Daniel Boone
One of many books about Boone. This one lacks the substance of many others. The best is that by Lyman Draper. Second is that by Nathan Boone. The book by John Bakeless is a very good earlier study, and covers all the ground well. I suggest this book for younger people, but scholars will want to look elsewhere.
Watch out for errors!
My initial perusal of this book picked up the following rather blatant mistakes:
Back Cover: "Wearing a cap made from raccoon skin . . ." (In real life, Daniel Boone never wore a coonskin cap.)
Page 13: The homestead is comprised of 250 acres, not 25.
Page 17: Fort Necessity is NOT located "at the site where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers merge to form the Ohio." That's where Fort Duquesne, later Fort Pitt, stood. Fort Necessity is 50 miles to the southeast.
Page 19: The caption identifies Boone's rifle as "Lick-Ticker." Try "Tick Licker."
Page 47: Two, not three, of Boone's children were killed.

Don't Waste Your Time
This book is a poor reprint of an original book by Braymer. They have changed the title and have not given frontspiece credit to the original. It is reduced in size, picture reproduction is poor, and the reproduction quality is so poor that it is hard to read. Binding is poor and pages fall out. For about the same price, you can get original copies of Braymer's excellent "Rewinding Samll Motors" and "Armature Winding and Motor Repair, second edition" through the used book market.
good book
Very thorough book on all aspects of electric motor repair. Some pictures are marginal, but overall the book is the most detailed and understandable I have seen on the subject.

For the dyslexic atheist who doesn't believe there's a dog
Plenty of extremely reform Jews who thought they were atheists will be surprised to find out they really believe in G-d after all.
Of course they don't believe any such thing. But a few of them might be confused by this volume's inclusion of, say, Erich Fromm, a nontheistic humanist who regarded "G-d" as a symbol of a human ideal.
If Fromm's atheism were being presented as an option for today's Jews, that might be one thing, although even that would be misleading and confusing. But to present it as a form of _theism_ is just silly. Fromm's version of "finding G-d" is what most people would call "not believing in G-d."
Fuhgeddabowdit. People who don't believe in G-d should just not believe in G-d. They don't need this book to tell them they're clost theists after all.
Judaism does encompass many conceptions of the nature of God
Today the vast majority of American Jews are not Orthodox. Judaism does not have a fixed creed which tells us exactly how we must understand the nature of God and what we should expect of Him. There is a Rabbinic vision of the nature of God, but Jews who are not Orthodox and many who are nominally Conservative are not always comfortable with the Rabbinic vision and, indeed, the Torah says that the form and nature of God cannot be known or understood by man. This book describes ten ways, including the Rabbinic, in which Jews have and still do see God...Some of these infuriate traditional Orthodox Jews, who may equate any concepts other than the Rabbinical as either heresy or atheism, but their condemnation does not invalidate the thought of some of our greatest and best known scholars as described in this book. It is an invaluable reference for the Jew who is seeking a reconciliation between Judaism and his existance in the modern world.
Gospel and Law: Contrast or Continuum?: The Hermeneutics of Dispensationalism and Covenant Theology

The book that started the downhill trend for Protestantism
For those who want to know why evangelical Protestantism is going downhill these days should read this book. Confusing "law" with "grace" and redefining "faith alone" as "obedience to the law" is a denial of the Gospel preached by Luther, Calvin, Paul and most importantly Jesus Christ. Avoid this book for your soul's sake.
good critique of dispensationalism
In an age where theology professors wrangle over irrelevant minutea, Dr. Fuller tackles important issues in a meaningful way. His critique of dispensationalism is particularly insightful and important. This book is not as clearly written as it should be and is probably, in many respects, over-shadowed by his much more recent "The Unity of the Bible", but it still has valuable contributions to make.

This is a rip off.
You do not have to purchase any type of book to apply for a government job. Anyone can get a civil service job by applying at any civilian personnel office. Thank you.
A Solid Overview of the Public Arena
Regrettably, few people today know much about the public sector and fewer still have an interest in governmental careers. This situation is not helped by the fact that getting a government job is rarely easy; the hiring process is typically overly bureaucratic and devoid of any logic whatsoever (meritocratic or otherwise). This book is a tool that may help folks as they embark on this often frustrating but potentially rewarding journey.
Handbook of walkthroughs, inspections, and technical reviews : evaluating programs, projects, and products

The Question-Answer format makes this title a poor pick.
Having launced a comprehensive software review & inspection process for several major corporations, most recently United Airlines, I found this particular book confusing and almost impossible as a ready reference or resource. The question-answer format provides information based on the questions the author believes you should ask, and makes referencing for specific information frustrating and time-consuming, if not impossible. The examples are elementary and lack significant value. A far better resource is "Software Inspection," by Gilb and Graham; Addison-Wesley publishers.
A good book, but not the best reference
Software Inspection by Gilb covers the subject a lot better. However, Freedman and Weinberg's book has a lot of good points on group dynamics and politics and such that Gilb doesn't get into. Freedman's book is a quick read too.

Overly biased toward Broderick and the defense
After reading another book about this case and recently watching the Court TV rerun of the 1991 second trial, I was hoping for some additional insight (objective) into the background of Betty, Dan, and Linda Broderick. There was a little of that, but overall this was a disappointing book because of its strong bias toward the defense's theory of the case. Taubman apparently bought into the idea that the venom-spewing woman on the stand was "emotionally abused" by her ex-husband and his new wife to an extent that made murder expected and understandable. While she agrees that Betty Broderick deserved punishment, the author seems to think Broderick's actions made sense in the context of the bitter divorce. They didn't, they don't, and nothing I read in this book convinced me of this position.
Betty Brings in Readers - Still
This book is a good read if you want something fast with not a lot of details about the Broderick case. It does not compare with Bella Stumbo's "Until the Twelfth of Never", which should be top choice if you want a very thorough (but not in the least boring) read on it. The author gives a good representation of Betty's point of view, while at the same time stressing the total wrongness of her acts. With a double murder, high society, and the intriguing character of Betty Broderick you can't go too wrong picking this up. Can we ever get enough of this one?

Is this usefull for version 5.0??
I have version 5.0, can it help me?
A good introduction to MapInfo Professional for Windows.
Given the dearth of any third party book dealing with the most widespread desktop GIS application, this book provides a good starting place as a tutorial. The MapInfo manuals, though fairly clear and concise, leave out some of the nuances for using MapInfo. Windows users will be pleased by the thorough treatment the windows platform receives in this book. Mac and UNIX users can still pick up some useful tidbits.
The accompanying CD, while most of the items will work on all platforms, provides Windows tables and examples, without identifying which will work with or crash Mac or UNIX platforms. Only about 27 Mb of the CD was used, while about another 600 Mb was available, the authors should have included some of the other public domain tables and utilities available at MapInfo internet sites, and should have considered including the URLs either in the book, on the CD, or point to a well maintained net site where the links could be found.
Overall, a very useful manual, with a lot of good information, and some nit picky problems.

In Hungary and Romania this Book was Completely Useless
This is NOT the phrase book that you want to buy for your trip. The best thing that can be said about it is that it is compact and fits into a pocket or small bag easily. The layout of the book is its biggest problem. The people at Lonely Planet need to go back and try to use it themselves. The sections on food are incredibly limited and gives only a few of the dishes that appears on most menus. Take my advice -- save your money and carry a book that has a little more substance even if it doesn't fit in your front pocket.
The book is very useful and it has six Languages in one book
The Phrasebook is very comprehensive and easy to use. For anyone traveling to Eastern Europe it is a must. It includes common phrases and small talk with pronunciations and how it is written. I would recommend this book and other books from Lonely Planet Languge kits.

Waste of money
The book repeats each scholarship at least 20 times on different pages, sometimes even on the same page. It just put under the different number. So, when it promises 4000 scholarships - divide it by 20 and that is all it has. The CD included is very poor. The book does not have instructions on how to make an advanced search on CD, and the few instructions it has - not working.
Good Resource
As the previous reviewer stated, the book does repeat scholarships--however, it does so because the same scholarship must be listed under different categories, i.e. field of study, residence, etc.; otherwise, students might miss out on ones they qualify for. I find this book to be very helpful and informative. There are a lot of scholarship foundations listed; the number of scholarships advertized does not re-count each foundation; it counts on the fact that each foundation offers more than just one award. This is a great book, as long as you are willing to follow the directions and do the research on your own. But admittedly, in these times, much info can be found online. I worked for the authoer, Dan Cassidy, for five years--he was committed throughout his life to helping students find a way to pay for college. Sadly, he passed away last year at the age of 45. But he did his best to make his book an invaluable resource for students.
