Rivers of Eden: The Struggle for Water and the Quest for Peace in the Middle East
Published in Hardcover by Replica Books (December, 1900)
Author: Daniel Hillel

Much more than meets the eye
Hydrology of the Middle East may seem like a dull subject at best, but this is in fact one of the best books I've ever read (including non-fiction). Combining history and science, Hillel provides an extraordinary account of both the importance of safe water supplies and the impact that this has on modern politics. These issues may not be readily apparent to fortunate individuals who, like me, grew up without ever having to worry about obtaining water, and it may be those people in particular who will derive the greatest pleasure and benefit from this book.

This is a great book!! If you live in, or are interested in visiting Alaska, be sure to read this. Then with all that is within you, attempt to check out what it says in the field. It is written by geologists who actually live in Alaska. It is great to read along with a rock and mineral identification guide, so you can more easily identify them in the field later. Buy it, read it.

Don't Travel Texas Without It
Few states have so many varied regions with such distinct local flavors. This book brings to life the past and present. Leon Metz is well qualified to lasso the immensity of Texas and bring it under control. Metz takes the various regions of Texas and gives a sweeping historical account for each. He then concentrates on the towns and historical sites where the exciting adventures happened. Many illustrations and maps.

Dark Oakdale and Stranded on an Island
It starts off with Joe practicing some basketball warm-ups for his big game that night. Joe has been trying hard to impress the eighth grade coach. Ellen's tooth has been bothering her, so, she decides to go to the dentist. Joe says bye, and his mom tells him if he needs anything to give her a call. It's about 4:30 and all of a sudden the lights go out in Joe's house. He goes in, to see if he can fix the problem. Joe wonders if he'll ever make it to the game on time. This situation reminds Wishbone of Robinson Cruesoe. Robinson Crusoe is this man, doesn't want to work in a hat shop with his father. He goes to seek what he thinks is his true calling. He secretly tells his mom and dad good-bye and that he loves them, and that maybe he would come back some day to see them. Robinson goes to sea, his so called true calling. His ship gets wrecked and he is thrown ashore on an island all by himself. he doesn't know if anyone else survived the shipwreck. So, I only have two questions left for you. Will Joe ever make it to his game on time? Will Robinson ever make it off the island, or will he be stuck there for life? Well, you will have to read this book for yourself; to find out the answers to these two questions. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was really great. I would also reccomend reading Prince and the Pooch, by Caroline Leavitt, and this book, Robinhound Cruesoe, by Caroline Leavitt.

Exciting Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor
Written like a narrative biography, this popular Defoe tale has been abridged to appeal to younger reader. It is set in the mid-1600s in England, as young Robinson considers his future. His father warns him about the perils of sailing. Robinson, undeterred, finds his way to a ship leaving from London.

Various adventures ensue, including being captured as a slave by a wealthy Turk. When he breaks for his escape, he manages to board a ship with a kind captain who assists him.

The real adventure begins soon thereafter, eight years after he first left home. He is shipwrecked:

"Nothing can describe the panic I felt when I hit the water... I looked up and saw an island before me." That island becomes his home for many years. His only book is his Bible which he reads daily. He makes what he needs from items he finds of the island, and later, meets Friday, whom he saves from death.

The illustration by N. C. Wyeth are beautiful, and have been seen in many earlier editions and versions of "Robinson Crusoe."

Few books hold the charm and swagger that "Robinson Crusoe" does, and lesser still tell it so well. The abridgment retains the excitement, and hopefully, as your child or student grows older, they will want to read the original version.

I fully recommend "Robinson Crusoe," by Daniel Defoe.

Read this to your children or better yet have them read it!
This is a great family reading time book. It is the traditional story of Robinson Crusoe with his Christian witness added. It details how his dependance on the Lord sustained him through his trails. Our family greatly enjoyed this book and would enjoy any other books in this series. I would recommend this book to any age.

A visual master
Sure..the storyline might not be the most innovative one, but I can't help loving this volume anyway. Daniel Torres seduces me completely with his wonderful images. It's like meeting a long lost friend from my childhood. As a person deeply in love with architecture and design as well as space adventure this is truly a treat. Yummm!

Romances of Chivalry in the Spanish Golden Age

A MUST for anybody interested in Spanish Golden Age books
I highly recommend this book to everybody interested in Golden Age literature, chivalry books or Don Quixote. To read Dr. Eisenberg means to both learn and enjoy. The book gives the reader a most complete view of what chivalry books really were, and offers a lot of interesting new aspects about them, as well as new keys for a better understanding of Don Quixote.
