Toylina and Blakes thought about gym
I think this book was good and had a lot of info .

If the shoe fits' wear it!
Excellent grade school picture book. Younger children will love the colorful illustrations and the lyrical rhyming language. Older children will appreciate the creative vocabulary and the mess the "Feet" get into. Mrs. Daniel's gets us to care about the delightful character of Handy Bob. Children will identify with all the fun activities that take place in an elementary school.I look forward to Teri Daniel's next book.

The Snarkout Boys and the Baconburg Horror, by D. Pinkwater
Daniel Pinkwater's excellent formula of humor and imagination makes among the funniest but exciting books. I have found that in almost every book of Mr. Pinkwater's, his imagination can take you anywhere from halfway around the globe to a magical backyard. Here lollipops can dance and time is like a map of New Jersey. Humor dominates in the Kingdom of Pinkwater. Two books that I read were: The Worms of Kukumlima and The Snarkout Boys and the Baconburg Horror. In The Snarkout Boys and the Baconburg Horror: Winston Bongo and Walter Garr are two teenagers who snarkout. Snarking is when you sneak out of the house to go see a movie. At the Snarkout Theater, the two boys meet a girl named Rat. When something horrible happens and secrets starts to damage things around the city of Baconburg, it is up to the three friends to figure out what is happening. The strange thing is shredding things with what seems to be claws. Meeting odd characters and people who can help them makes a perfect plot and an exciting story. You never know what is lurking around the corner, and it's up to you to decide who is friend and who is foe.

I love this book, and not just because I'm in it.
Daniel Pinkwater is such a great guy. He doesn't bother with the New York Times when he needs jacket quotes, he goes straight to his fans! These are some of the best books in the world, all here in one volume. Borgel changed my life. It says so on the inside cover so it's true. Yobgorgle is a modern day Flying Dutchman. The Worms of Kukumlima comes complete with giant intelligent worms, and the second Snarkout book is poetry in motion. These books cannot be found in print individually anymore, so for a quadruple dose of funny freaky fantasy, 4 Fantastic Novels is your Rx.

Chickens, Avacados and Interspace Travel
Daniel Pinkwater is a fabulous author. His skewed take on life is not only funny and entertaining but reminds every reader that there's more to life than meets the eye. You'll discover something new each time you read (and re-read) Pinkwater's stories, making Pinkwater loved by kids and adults alike. If you buy this book, prepare to have your views on life broadened -- all while being wildly entertained.

Comic book revision of the movie given the television series
In the beginning there was the movie script of Buffy the Vampire Slayer written by Joss Whedon, that was turned into a rather campy movie version. Miraculously given a second chance, Whedon created a Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series that was more true to his original conception. Both the original movie and the two-part television pilot were novelized by Richie Tankersley Cusick. Now we have this collection of a three-part comic book mini-series that essentially revisits Whedon's original script in light of the current television series, which is truer to the original conception of Buffy that is in the original script upon which this graphic novel is based.

Follow all that okay? This stuff gets a bit confusing after a while.

You have to appreciate the idea of revising the movie so that it is more compatible with the television series in terms of the overall Buffy mythos. Writers Daniel Brereton and Christopher Golden do a nice job of making the parts fit. The artwork by penciller Joe Bennett and inker Rick Ketcham is more than adequate, although certainly not as stylized as I would really like to see in a gothic horror/high school comedy comic book. If you have only seen the original Buffy movie, you are not going to appreciate the revisions contained herein. These are for the fans of the current television show. We are legion.

And They Say the Movie Was All Wrong ....
I actually LIKE the movie, although I admit it takes a totally different stab (pun intended) at the TV Buffy storyline.

More recently I've become a fan of SMG in the role Kristy Swanson originated in the film (and also of its spinoff, Angel). And I read that "Origin" was supposed to be the true original concept Joss had for the Buffy motion picture, so I wanted to read it for myself. I have to be honest -- the way people were crying, I expected a major departure from what I had seen on the big screen so many years ago (and more recently, on my DVD player).

Not so. As it turns out, this telling tracks better than 90 percent true to the movie as it was released. The story is nearly identical, and most of the lines remain the same. There is a bit of a darker edge to it, and it's interesting how such little tweaks here and there can make something feel so differently overall.

I won't go into a lot of detail about the storyline. If you want that, read a synopsis of the movie, because it really is the same story, almost word-for-word. Imagine the original movie being redrafted in such a way that instead of being a total comedy, it falls in line with the darker tone of the popular TV series. Other than the minimal reworking required to accomplish this task, imagine the movie remains otherwise intact. Now you have a pretty good idea of what this comic looks like.

There are some changes here and there, which do bring the story more in line with the TV show that follows. An example -- at the end of the movie, the Hemery High School gym remained standing, but in the TV show, we're told that one of the reasons Buffy and her mom had to move to Sunnydale from LA was she was expelled for burning down her high school gym. Ergo, at the end of the comic, Buffy defeats a legion of vampires by locking them in the Hemery High School gym and burning it to the ground (If you are a fan of Buffy at all, I'm sure this piece of information doesn't spoil anything for you). It's a minor rework of the original film storyline to bring it parallel with the TV series backstory. And in essence, that's all this comic really does.

But for the true Buffy fan who can't seem to appreciate how the movie could fit into the "Buffyverse", maybe this comic is what you need to bridge the gap between the two.

Buffy Revisited
Christy Swanson was fine in the BTVS movie, but I'm so used to Sarah Michelle that it would be almost painful to watch the film after all this time. I like Buffy just the way she is now. So when I saw that Dark Horse Comics was bringing out a graphic novel version of the original story I decided to live dangerously and purchase my first Buffy 'comic.' I've stayed away from graphic novels, not because I don't like them, but because they are expensive for the amount of story one gets. But this looked like a good time to make an exception.

I'm not going to spend anytime elaborating on the plot. If any readers do not know the story of Buffy's entry into Slayerhood, suffice it to say that Valley Girl meets Watcher, discovers vampires, and kills same. With increasing aplomb. Buffy as Valley Girl is a bit more irritatingly mindless than Buffy as Slayer, but it's all in good fun. And, as all of us know, when Buffy grows up, she is as bad as they come.

Christopher Golden and Daniel Brereton have done a masterful job of the conversion of the original story line, with plenty of sarcasm, dry wit, and sight gags. And the art work is simply superb. If the comics of my jaded youth were as good I would probably never have switched to reading books. Joel Bennet is the penciller, and Rick Ketcham has completed the work beautifully with the help or Randy Emberlin and J. Jadson. The images are clear and crisp with a great deal of expression. Good stuff all around.

I still have a problem with sticker shock when looking at graphic novels but I have agree that the end product can often be worth it. Given what it sets out to be, this is a great gift or collector's item for the Buffy nut of your choice. Even if that nut happens to be yourself!

rather misleading
Daniel Reid seems more like an obsessive-compulsive than anything Daoist. He overwhelms the reader with an avalanche of drugs, enema potions (yes, *enema potions*), sex toys, and pseudo-scientific speculation. He'll have you believe that "being a daoist" requires observing dietary rules stricter than kosher, squatting with your feet on the toilet seat, and sticking a hose up your bum every morning while starving yourself. his sexual methods are ok, but go to N.K. Lin (or even Mantak Chia) for much better treatment. overall, reid seems to have a questionable grasp both of daoist philosophy and of modern science. overall his insistence on point-by-point observance of health rules (so you won't "!DIE!") is frustrating rather than liberating.

If you are curious or serious about Taoism, buy this book!
I do not know who to thank for curing me of a chronic digestive disorder that eluded allopathic physicians for the past 30 years: Daniel P. Reid or the ancient Taoist masters?

Mr. Reid's books are truly gifts to the modern Western world and to those who sense that there is something more to life than a mass-produced culture and lifestyle. Ancient wisdom does have a wealth of knowledge to impart today in order to live a better tomorrow. If you are a newcomer to Taoism, spirituality, and health, this is an ideal book to help you begin your journey towards enlightment. Those with a little more experience will also benefit from reading this book and adding its little gems of wisdom to their library of ever-expanding knowledge.

I also highly recommend Mr. Reid's "The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity" as an excellent companion to "The Complete Book..." However, I caution you to exercise both responsibility and accountability as you read and practice. You should be fully aware that there is no way for the author to be familiar with your particular ailments or life-situation. In this regard, I recommend that you pursue your studies under the guidance of a qualified instructor and to seek health advice from a Traditional Chinese Medical practitioner. If you heed the caution and advice you will gain tremendously. There is genuine gold in this ancient wisdom. You will find yourself asking the question: "Why doesn't the rest of the Western world know about this?"

Good luck to all of you as you travel the Tao of life-enrichment through ancient wisdom. I encourage you to pursue this seemingly miraculous path towards a better life. Learn from it and spread the word. You, and others, will never regret it.

A delicious book
I am really enjoying reading this book. The informative passages preceeding each recipe give some insight into the origin of the recipe and alternative ways to prepare and serve. I usually put post-it notes on each page that holds a recipe I want to prepare, but this book is just packed with goodies so I won't bother with the post-its. I particularly liked the traditional French recipes. Also, I feel that the methods used are relatively simple and easy for the average cook to execute, which is a tribute not only to the quality of Boulud's ability as a chef but also as an author. A lot of chefs' cookbooks get knocked (and mostly justifiably so) for being too complicated or esoteric for the layperson to relate to and use, but this chef's cookbook is the delicious exception to the rule. I thoroughly recommend this book.

A must have cookbook
This is by far the best cookbook of the year (French Laundry 2nd IMHO). Not only are the recipes within the grasp of the average home cook, but they taste great as well. I've eaten at Daniel and Cafe Boulud and and more than a few of the dishes I've enjoyed at the restaurants are in this book. I've cooked over a dozen dishes and haven't had a disappointment yet. Most, if not all ingredients are easily accessible and no exotic kitchen tools or highly advanced cooking techniques are neccessary for 90% of the recipes. If you love to cook and eat, this book is a must have.

4 star dishes that actually work at home
Daniel Boulud, one of America's best chefs, has teamed up with one of America's best cookbook authors, Dorie Greenspan, and the results are delicious. Café Boulud Cookbook is wonderful for picking up and reading--transporting one to Boulud's hometown of St.-Pierre de Chandieu, a small village near Lyon, France, inspiring dreams about Chicken Grand-Mère Francine, and back again to Café Boulud in New York City. But beyond that, the book is filled with dishes that not only make me hungry, but actually inspire me to run out and buy the ingredients and make them. And best of all, the recipes actually work! Nor are they too difficult. Boulud's voice comes through loud and clear in the wonderful headnotes, and Greenspan's gentle hand-holding is evident in the careful and thorough instructions. Bravo!

AMAZING READ
Mr. Myerson, this book was indeed both very educational and and enjoyable to read. I gained a new perspective on these tyrants. . .and it's one I won't forget soon. THANKS!

A Brilliantly Written Book
Myerson has written a tremendous collection of short biographies. Don't be foooled by its short size. Each biography is not only full and rich; the writing is as gripping as a first-class novel.

Most impressive is Myerson's remarkable insight into these historic villans. He has an incredible gift for revealing the layers and contradictions of this "rogue" gallery. He also displays a sensitivity to what inspired these people to succumbing so completely to the darkest part of human nature.

The writing is matched by Myerson's excellent "writer's eye" for picking the most offbeat yet revealing moments in the lives of his topics. This keen eye is in use right away with the biography of Adolf Hitler. Of all the moments one could pick for this man of infinite horrors, Myerson introduces us to Hitler as the Fuhrer is sitting down to watch Gone With The Wind. This isn't just a clever introduction; this anecdote is used to bridge us to Hitler's own grand and apocalyptic concept of destiny and history.

In short, this is one terrific book. Forget about history; this is a book for anyone who simply wants a gripping read.

PBS series in the making?
I highly recommend this book. Myerson gives a fascinating perspective on these tyrannical characters of history and the present day, in a style that's easy to read. I also think it's a 'natural' for a TV documentary, e.g., a series on PBS with a segment on each of these larger than life figures.

A century's worth of Hollywood images
Vanity Fair's Hollywood draws from the magazine's photo archive to reveal a century's worth of Hollywood images, choosing over 290 of its photos and pairing them with notable writers for added impact. A beautiful visual and verbal history of Hollywood results, suitable for art libraries and coffee tables alike. Well detailed in its essays, Vanity Fair's Hollywood is weightier and packed with information.

Great coffee table book!
This book is filled with photographs and essays about Hollywood and its stars. There is a wide variety of photographs exhibited here. My only complaint would be that they are not set up in any kind of order. A picture of Jack Nicholson playing golf on one page and then turn the page to find a picture of Joan Crawford and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. I suppose they thought chronological or theme order would have been too predictable. My favorite photos are: Doris Day (p. 26), the essay and photo of Greta Garbo (pgs. 42-43), James Dean clowning (p. 47), Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren (p.158) the Malibu Beach drawing from 1933 (p.242), Sophia Loren (p. 247), Jackie Cooper and Mickey Rooney (p. 276), Loretta Young in 1935 and 1999 (pgs.292 and 293) and Olivia de Havilland (p. 310). As you can tell, my interests are toward vintage photos, but there are photos of today's celebs as well, such as Gwyneth Paltrow or Cameron Diaz and these are wonderful photos, too. The pictures in Vanity Fair are always unique and this is a great compilation.

A Glorious Glittered Tour through Stardom
A wonderful book that portrays the glitz and glamour of Hollywood at its most glorious. Vanity Fair's best inspirational photos are presented from the distant and not-too-recent past. A perfect gift for that star follower in your world. Every page screams "Hooray for Hollywood", and the nostalgia of some will have you yearning for past times. It's possibly the most beautiful book ever made on the stars that captured our imagination and inspired us.

Wonderful edition of a great book
Emerald Eyes is the opening act of Moran's stories about Trent and the Castanaveras telepaths. It covers how the telepaths were created, how they were destroyed, and how Trent and Denice survived. The characters are perhaps less well-formed than one would like--it's really not a very long book, and Moran spends a chunk of his time on showing us glimpses of the larger universe, glimpses that are hard to understand until you read The Last Dancer. But, if you like stories with a lot of mythic impact, then you'll love this one.

The text of the limited edition is slightly different from the paperback edition that came out in 1989. It's the same editor (who's now Moran's wife), so you don't get much in the way of really glaring changes; most of the ones I spotted were improvements. (I haven't gone through and compared them side-by-side yet, but I've read the paperback 5-10 times, so any differences tended to catch my eye.) Some of the more artificial bits have been trimmed (e.g., the line where Trent says of Carl, "His grammar is poor, but he never says anything he doesn't mean."), and some of the phrasings have been improved. Nothing major, but enough that I'm not going to get rid of the paperback.

The novella tacked on to the end, The Star, is from Trent's time in the Fringe. It's a nice bit of backstory for The Long Run, but mostly it's just a minor adventure story. Worth reading, but I'm glad I didn't have to buy it separately.

It Will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!
Every now and then, a book comes along that will simply blow you away. Even though I read this book several years back, it's on my list of books that I'll read again. Withstanding that though, it's a book that will stay with you forever. It will scar your mind with its visualizations and story-telling. Even after all this time, I remember a painting that Mr Moran described. A painting that allows you to look at the perceptions of the characters, and give you a deep horror born shudder. And I'm not going to describe the painting. For that, you'll have to read the book. And this book, along with the 2 sequels out so far, are on my list of Top 100 books of all time...in the top 10%. And considering all the books I've read, I think that high praise indeed

Unbelieveably GREAT
One of the BEST sci-fi books of all time! I first read this book about 15 years ago when it first came out. It, along with The Long Run and The Last Dancer, is definitely one of the best books that I've ever read. These are really the first great cyberpunk books in my mind. Every time I go to the book store I check to see if there's a new book out by Moran. Far better than Gibson and right up there with Neal Stephenson. I wish that some publisher would pick up Daniel Keys Moran and give us more of this great universe.

Characters that you realy care about and a plot that forces you to stay up all night long to see what's going to happen next are the reason that my original copy was worn ragged as I forced all my friends to read this series. Ask anyone who's read his books and you'll have to gag them to get them to stop praising his books. I liked it so much that I bought two copies of the whole limited edition series including Armageddon Blues which is not part of the series but is great for it's ideas. The writing in Armageddon Blues is not quite as polished as Emerald Eyes and the others but it's still a great read.

This is one of those rare stories that takes place in the near enough future with characters that are real enough that you really care what happens to them, and you have a sense that this could be the future that we will all experience in our lifetime. It's full of things like a reverse microwave to instantly cool things down that you wish you had in your own kitchen.

If you can't afford to buy this book go ask your local library to buy it. Just make sure that you READ this book!

The simple steps automatically ignited perpetual motivation
For many years I have been unable to discipline myself to take consistant, positive action in the direction of my goals. I read dozens of books with little result. In "The Ultimate Guide to Mental Toughness" Daniel Teitelbaum gives step by step instructions on how to present your dreams to your mind so that you automatically become motivated on a daily basis. It's nothing short of incredible. I have already come a long way to achieving my life's ambitions. I couldn't recommend the book highly enough.

Excellent Useful Information
I just could not put this book down. Like the other reviewers, I got far more out of reading this book than many other self-help books. This book is a fluid, easy read, packed with useful information. If you like this book, another must-read is "Success Is Not An Accident" by Tommy Newbury. The information in these two books seems to go together very well because they both discuss similar issues, each from a unique perspective. Tommy Newbury's book addresses the importance of goal setting and taking personal responsibility, while "The Ultimate Guide To Mental Toughness" contributes its own unique method of achieving goals. My last step in self-improvement has been to explore breath-control and using breathing to rev up my metabolism and boost my energy levels. "The Ultimate Guide to Mental Toughness" does address energy levels, but in it's own unique, interesting way. Actually, the boost in my own energy levels that I expereienced from following the guidelines in this book motivated me to explore the whole topic. Nice book.

EXCELLENT BOOK!!
I'M BAFFLED BY THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF THIS BOOK BASED ON THE COVER. THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO DO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER (AND CAN'T SPELL). DON'T BE PUT OFF. IT'S A USEFUL AND VERY HELPFUL BOOK FOR THOSE ACTUALLY READ IT.
