How best to address urgent environmental issues
Aptly edited by Dan Chiras (professor at the University of Denver where he teaches a course on sustainable public policy), Voices For The Earth is a compendium of insights and commentaries on how best to address the urgent environmental issues that we are faced with today both as individuals and as a society. After a lengthy and informative introduction, Voices For The Earth offers thirteen compelling essays by experienced, expert environmentalists and which are arranged into three major sections: "Signs of Distress/Signs of Hope: Creating a New Synthesis"; "Restructuring for Sustainability: Community, Economics, and Education"; Blueprint for Sustainability: Learning to Live and Prosper Within Limits". Voices For The Earth is a welcome and timely contribution to our national dialogue over environmental issues, and an essential addition to academic and community library environmental studies collections.

A must real for families with strained relationships.
I have read this book this several times and finally shared it with the rest of my family. It puts into perspective the heavy burden we place on ourselves, our family and our spouses with our expectations. This book helped to heal a broken relationship between my brother and father before it was too late. If you are struggling with disappointment in someone you love, this book may bring you great comfort.

The Navel of the World
Dr. Walker has crammed a lot of information about vulcanism, and its relationship to weather patterns and my favorite place in the world, Easter Island, into this little 90 page book. My only problem with it was that it much too short; I was ready for a lot more!

Outstanding
Though a good knowledge of SS Uniforms would be heplfull, this is certianly the best book you can get to start with if you're interested in learning more about SS Cammo uniforms. The pictures are very good (about the best I've seen in a book about this subject), and the less informed won't get bogged down with too many details. If you're looking for a comprehensive work about the specific paterns and evolution there of, you might want something else. The best book for this type of research is expensive, but well worth the money.

The Barbary Coast San Francisco
I absolutely love this book because it has taken me to parts of San Francisco I didn't know existed. Daniel's writing style is relaxed and humorous in relating historical facts which could be dry on their own. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn about the formation and people of San Francisco during the Barbary Coast years. To actually walk the Barbary Coast trail and see the buildings and areas in the book only enhances the experience!

Space travel, black holes, river rapids, singing, sledding..
This author reminds me of two authors: Richard Brautigan (for adults) and Daniel Pinkwater (for kids). Just like Brautigan and Pinkwater, Pinkwater gives us a comic tale mixing realistic dialogue and surreal situations. This kid Steve is miffed because his mom is redecorating the house, and he doesn't like it until she shows him some spaceship wallpaper. You would not think a story about wallpaper could be exciting, but think again! Steve and his mom paper his bedroom with it, and that night, Steve has amazing adventures with some remarkably carefree spacemice, exploring the planet of the Bunnies ("don't do anything to get them mad"). Boldly illustrated by Jill Pinkwater. The hardcover jacket says "ages 6-9," but I am 43 years old and I really enjoyed this book.

THE WANDERING JEW of Moncure Daniel Conway
Without question the most distinguished expression of the extra-scriptural legend of the Wandering Jew, included in the ninth edition of Encyclopedia Britannica, is the pioneering historical approach by this author in 1881, only to be superceeded by the equally excellent and thorough erudition found in the now classic literary treatment of the wild yet current phenomena contained in George Anderson "The Legend of the Wandering Jew" (Brown). During the winter, this subject provides a fascinating way of spending the evenings while warm in bed, at the same time learning about history and the wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and spirit long ago.

A must have up to date reference book on Gangs.
This book gives you a comprehensive look at suburban gangs from the perspective of kids who live the life and those who only observe. The interviews present invaluable information regarding parents and teachers inattentative to down right ignorant responses to gangs in schools. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in studying the complexity of gangs in suburbs, as well sociologists who are looking for a good take on why such children get involved in deviant acts such as gun fights and drug deals. The simple explanations from these youths will shock you. This book also makes a clear distinction between urban and suburban gangs.
