Having received an advance copy I promptly tried "Nana's Chocolate Cake" and my family was deliriously happy. The other recipes give the appearance of being complicated but many are "do ahead" and reheat as needed. Like the author, I prefer to enjoy my company and have as much of the work as possible done in advance. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5? - I only wish it was larger and more comprehensive!

This is a useful book for those interested in literature, wishing to expand their reading, or just looking for a good book.

The book has two main sections.

The first is a series of essays by leading writers in various fields. So Michael Dibdin writes on Crime, Lee Clark Mitchell on Westerns with other essays on other genres and also major countries of fiction such as America, France etc. Each essayist picks 12 examples of the finest books in each field.

These short essays are very useful as introductions to a field or area of writing and point you in the right direction for further reading.

The second section is an A-Z listing of over 1,000 authors with short biographical details and suggested reading.

Taken together these elements make for a most informative guide which I have found very useful to increase my reading and I am sure other lovers of books will find likewise.

There are some glaring ommisions - no Haruki Murakami?! - and some of the entries can be a bit snobbish but overall there is a good balance.

This book deals with friendship and sportsmanship. A must read for anyone who loves horses and the whole camp experience!

I just ordered a second copy of this for my parents. I really enjoyed this book which has something for everyone---a love story, a humorous view of the Viet Nam war, sports (not my favorite part) and a warm view of life in the 50s and 60s. Mr. Harris has a warm, humorous style which makes for easy reading and takes us back to times and events in our lives to which we can all relate. I would certainly recommend this book for anyone of any age. It reminded me of the warm simple style of Message In A Bottle.

This book presents a comprehensive history of the goose as a European culinary staple, and does a very good job of the presentation. Like all of the Konemann publications in its current catalog, the book is richly illustrated and full of information about every dietary use of the goose.

Clearly written, the book features easy-to-follow recipes which will bring a level of versatility to goose preparation that is simply not common knowledge in the United States.EN

The Collegeville Commentary series is a Catholic set of commentaries for the books of the Bible. Most of the commentaries are individual (ie: one commentary for one book of the Bible), and the commentary on Matthew is one of those. When I say that it is a Catholic commentary, I mean that it is written by someone of the Catholic faith, and as such all interpretation will be done from the Catholic standpoint. The commentary is a paperback book of over 100 pages. The top portion of each page contains the actual Biblical verses, while the lower portion of each page contains the commentary. The two are easily delineated, and the format is not confusing. Another nice feature to the individual books (like this one) as compared to the compendium (you can buy the Old or New Testament commentaries as single books) is that these contain pictures of sites important to Jesus' ministry, and where appropriate maps of the areas as well. Also, the compendiums do not have the Biblical verses but only contain the commentaries (presumably to save space). The cost of these books is relatively cheap and if you only need a commentary on a book or two of the Bible these are much cheaper to buy than large bulky commentaries. If you want the whole set though, I suggest you buy the compilations of the OT and NT, which though they lack the pictures found in the single books are much reduced in cost. Overall, these are very good books to learn from and read if you are a Catholic. It is one of the very few "Catholic Commentaries" that you can find that covers the entire Bible.

This is a very well organized book with many activities. Each phonics section has a parent letter, activities, worksheets, a poem and more. It truly is a great big book, also. It has added many ideas to my teaching repertoire and is easy to use and fit into plans. I'm thrilled that I bought it!

This is a great piece of literary criticism, Lehan does a great job. I used a specific chapter, "Seeing and Misseeing: Narrative Unfolding" in an essay of mine.

I gave the story The Great Pony Hassle four stars because of some funny parts like on pg.9 when Staci and Toni were telling each other to shut up. I understood the book and Paisley's and Toni's feelings about Noodles the pony. It was not fair becaue in the beginning Paisley was the only girl to have a pony.

We bought this book, because we are looking for the perfect breed to join our household. So whenever we fancy a certain breed we like to get a book about it. This inexpensive little book gives an exellent first time greyhoundowner guidebook. Not only does it give you tips how to housetrain an ex-racer, but gives good and sound advise for training, feeding and dogcare in general. It gives examples, little stories and facts to make the read more intersting. Did you know that Bo Derek owned Greyhounds? Daniel Braun Stern' book made us read (and buy) several books about sighthounds and the adoption of retired racehounds.

You will need more indepth information later on, but if you get this book to make up your mind - in that case it is a very good book to buy!
