A Story You'll Never Forget
I read Dr.Baxter's book a few month's ago, and I was so impressed by what a wonderful book it is, that I could hardly believe it! I thought it would be another story about AIDS that makes you feel horrible about disease in the world, but I was blessed to discover that a book about such an awful illness could be so uplifting. The author of "The Least of These My Brethren" has seen and dealt with AIDS patients first-hand in a disgusting hospital where AIDS patients seem to have been placed as to cover them and keep them from the public- a way to hide how awful AIDS is. Dr. Baxter is brutally honest about the illness and all the pain it brings. Yet he has somehow managed to take the misery and show you a lighter side that fills you with hope and peace. It's a very well written story that the world should all share.

Legacy of valour : the Canadians at Passchendaele

A great perspective on how the allies won the war
The author clearly shows how determined and well-led soldiers could achieve the goals set for them. Although Dancocks does not enter the into the wider strategic issues, he demonstrates that the Allies could win tactical victories, which is what Liddell Hart and others have denied since the war. The battle was costly to the Canadians, but it was a victory and the Germans suffered much more than their attackers.

A gem to rank alongside "When Cats Dream" and "Stellaluna."
Review of "The Legend of the Flying Hotdog," by Celeste White and Dan Lane
It's a shame the publishers allowed this children's book to go out of print, for it's a gem to rank alongside Dav Pilkey's "When Cats Dream" and Janell Cannon's "Stellaluna." The flying hotdog of the title is an animal -- a former weasel who one day sprouts "wings of pure malice" and thereafter amuses himself by stealing mittens from unsuspecting children. Then one day, he swoops down upon a little boy named Patrick, but Patrick's mother has tethered his mittens to his coat, so the hotdog ends up taking the boy home with him to the Never Summer Mountains of Colorado... The book is full of subtle humor, making it a joy to read. But I especially liked the way Patrick wins over his captor by being KIND -- not by trying to outsmart or trick him. This book gives the reader three wonderful things: an engrossing tale, a hero worthy of emulation, and something to think about. I for one will never look at a lost (or found) mitten the same way again. Celeste White has succeeded in writing a modern folktale. And Dan Lane's color illustrations are absolutely charming.

History and myth blended perfectly
Legendary Warriors picks out some of the most famous characters from European & American mythology and looks at them in three contexts: the story of the myth, the reality of history, and the danger of battle.

readers will already be familiar with people like King Arthur and Robin Hood, but the author really pulls some excellent characters into the book - Roland the Franck, Cuchulian the Irishman, and William Wallace - the braveheart!

Whatever your approach to history, and whether you're more interested in the real life people, the battles fought in history (because there is a LOT of info on warfare in the medieval period), or just want a good overview of some of the world's best legends, this boook should have what you want in it.

my 1 year old loves this book!
My 1 year old has loved this book for several months. The pictures of kids in action are big and bright. She's also learning how to do each action herself. I'm planning on buying a few more books from this wonderful "my turn" series.

Outstanding Letters
This book is one of the best books I have ever read, because it gave me a lot of wisdom, in the way of marrige. Even though I am not married yet I learned a lot from this series of letters in the novel. It taught me that I should relax more and not be so uptight. This novel also taught me that when I do get married I will follow some of the guidelines of his letters and use them in my everyday married life. The author showed me the importance of marrige, and how highly I should respect it.I recommend this book to anyone who is planing or think about taking the step into marrige. This book devoloped my relationship with my campanion, to an extent were we can talk about or problems. I reliezed through this book marriage is not all fun and games, it is a serious desicion. After reading this book my knowledge about marriage is greater then it ever was. I thought that even though I am not married, I can be a better person if I read this again when I get married, because there was so much wisdom within those letters. This book was so outstanding to read about his girlfriend because I could tell that they are thinking about taking that special step.I hope he learns as much as i did, becauses he will use it a lot sooner than I will. Thank you God Bless

Letters to Daniel
Published in Paperback by Creative Arts Book Co (01 May, 2002)
Author: William Roth
Amazon base price: $13.95
Average review score:

A Remarkable Father-Son Relationship
In letters to his son Daniel, William Roth introduces us to three generations of his remarkable family. He writes of his parents, who not only escaped the Holocaust and rescued as many of their relatives as they could, but, as physicians, dedicated their lives to helping others. He writes of his own life and of a painful time when, as a single parent with a disability struggling against cancer, he and his son took care of each other. I was moved by his trust in his own inner wisdom and his faith in the goodness of his son. Their mutual respect for each other transcends shallow conventional prescriptions for parent-child relationships. The meaning they give to each others lives is more than a survival tool. I am grateful for their willingness to share glimpses of it with the rest of us is.
