This is a turkey, but it's the only one out there.
This is a lousy solutions manual. It frequently skips steps and gives you no indication that it did - you're left saying "Where the heck (or something more colorful) did that come from?" After lots of beating your brains out, you might be able to figure it out if you're good at this or if you have a great teacher. If not, don't expect this manual to be a good learning tool - it isn't. You can use it to check the answers on homework, but that's almost all. And since the answers are in the back of the book, why bother? And the Teacher's Manual isn't any better, just more of it. Of course, the book's no prize, either. You might want to sign up for a math section that uses a different book!
If you know you're going to need help, save the $40 for this book and pay a tutor instead.

Good enough
Good enough explanations but not worth to buy. You would get more by asking classmates and proffesors. Just stay tuned in class.

If your new to calculus, its a good buy
This text is a good companion to the textbook. Starting with the early chapters, it explains every problem in great detail. Many of the problems are often accompanied by word explanations, which make things easier to understand. This textbook was my first calculus book and this companion helped me to understand calculus much better. There were two things I didn't like about this book. 1) It contains the answers only to the odd problems. 2) When you get to the later chapters in the book, it often skips algabraic steps leaving you with wonder as to how a certain step was reached. Even though it has these two flaws, it will generally help you out a lot if you are new to calculus

Young Boudicca

Keep Your Day Job
The book, John K.Daniels, Young Boudicca, is not only poorly written, but unimaginative as well. He takes a look at the young warrior queen's life, by inserting supposed people and partial fact, which is fine for writing fiction. It isn't alright, in my opinion, to write as badly as he did and get published. I guess that makes me more angry at the publisher/editor than anything. The style goes from romantic to adventure to fantasy and descriptions of people become annoyingly repititious. For instance, Boudiccas historical husband, Chieftain Prasutagus, is referred to as "fat Prasu" not once or twice, but over fifty times in two chapters! Maybe he (Daniels) could find another adjective; I don't know. Since I am doing extensive research on the Life & Times of Boudicca, I thought this would be a helpful tool, but am terribly dissapointed. In my opinion, it is a supreme waste of money.

Not what I expected
I ordered this book with a sense of excitement. I had hoped to uncover some of the mystery regarding this young woman. The details were few and far between. There was little emphasis on religion or early medicine As I was reading I was never able to "see" the brightly colored Celtic garments, or "smell" the Celtic campfires or "hear" the rumbling of the chariot wheels. There was too much emphasis on the passions betwixt and between the various characters. The author tried to cover too many characters stories and lost his story in the process. A good book maybe for the junior hign school level reader.

Women lead the way.
I loved the wide sweep of this book, particularly how the Druids were forced to reeavaluate their own ideals when faced with invasion not only by the Romans but by the early Christians whose peace loving mission robbed both Romans and Brits of their will to fight. No wonder it took 77 years to conquer Britain! The characters are impressive, particularly Boudicca herself, whose troubles mature her into readiness for her role as the leader of Celts who loved to fight each other as much as the Romans. Queen Cartimandua is one of the sexiest characters in literature and the chapter where poor Atak gets raped by the widow Angarad is one of the funniest. I learned a lot from this book. The research that went into it makes it into a credible journey through time. Women - especially Celtic women - will love it. I recommend it highly.

Extremely basic. Best for young kids.
I was looking for a reference book with names, makers, pictures, etc. This book is very basic and appears to be aimed toward a young reader.

An excellent quick reference; Wonderful illustrations
This book was originally published in the mid seventies; it is nice to have a reprint available. Interiewing old cowboys in the 1950's, the author gained a great deal of primary source material in regards to what types of clothing and equipment were used. A great deal of drawings appear throughout the text. This book depicts the cowboy at his most practical. A good book, though a tad expensive.

The believer's security : conditional or unconditional : addresing false doctrine in the Church
Published in Unknown Binding by Evangelical Outreach ()
Author: Daniel D. Corner
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $197.23
Average review score:

This work is not worth the effort to read.
In surveying the arguments against the classical doctrine of eternal security offered by Corner, I see no convincing reason to opt for his "conditional" view of salvation. This book is literally laced with bad arguments and ad hominem attacks. For the serious student of biblical soteriology, one would be better influenced by someone who actually studies the Bible without an agenda.

A Serious book that Christians are challeged to Read
This book, I noted, has very sincere biblical concern over a traditional doctrine that is so much intermingled with many fundamental and baptist churches. I Myself am an baptist, but have started re-evaluating my stance on this last point of calvinsim, find that my brethern in my church have difficulty in being sincere in approching this text. It is a strong message, and it needs an unbiased (theologically) mind to read it. The Bible has so much to say, that many people at church have overlooked or done away with their arguments throughout the centuries. I recommend this book to every lover of the Book(Bible) to consider and take the challenge this book gives, especially to those who have taken the doctrine to their heart, because of various logics of theologican reasoning, but are willing to reevaluate their believes in the light of the scriptures. I have given only a 4 star, since the book is not complete by itself, and can be sharpened a lot.

The most ridiculous story ever told
The president is going to be impeached. When his opposition learns that the president is going to get away scott free, the president, his enemies and every head of state get blown up. And it only gets less believeable as it goes along. Don't waste your time.

Glad I'm Not In Politics
Simon Lincoln has got to be the wickedest villain/manipulator I've read about in a long time. Rather scary that I was drawn to his every next move. Even though the story contains many political complexities, I thought the plots were fast-paced, interesting and easy to follow. A fast "escape" read.

Very VIOLENT. Not a children's book!
We found this book to be VERY VIOLENT. There are several disturbing photographs and sketches that are inappropriate for any child. One of the sections is about Chinese tortures and states "The 'lightest' penalty was beating - 4 to 100 blows . . might also be condemed to have his ears cut off or be shut inside a tiny cage. The frame torture consisted of placing a piece of wood weighing over 80 pounds around the convict's neck. He was not able to sleep or rest, and the slightest fall could break is neck and kill him." This is accompanied by a VERY DISTURBING photograph of men and a child being tortured! A children's book?

Also, of the many photos, only one is of a woman or girl. She is working in a silk work factory.

Overall, my opinion of the book was very negative - especially in its depiction of China and it's people.

This book makes research simple for young children.
This book was not violent. There were many pictures of woman and children and there was nothing disturbing about it. The reviewer from Boston obviously did not read this book. There is one picture referring to chinese torture. It is realistic and tasteful. Children need to understand history and the world around them. This book helps.

This book is not what you think...
Tesla, The Modern Sorcerer, is not what I expected. I wanted an biography of the scientist, but the dialogue with his father at the start led me to believe that it was a children's book, assuming details of actual dialogue were not recorded for posterity. However, after a more careful inspection of the jacket, I found that although the book is labeled Science / Alternate Technology, it is none too clearly also identified as a novel. This is not bad in itself. However, the writing is terrible! Names, dates and place are given and dropped as quickly without having any kind of cohesion. It became apparant to me that the author had writen an outline to help him structure his story, but then he copied the outline and filled in nothing. Details and dialogue are stacatto and stilted. He references, at one point, a machine that runs at so many Webers, without defining what a Weber is or even mentioning it again. Details appear to be decently researched, but the "novel" concept allows these to be manufactured. The authors other works are novels about UFO abductions, and he uses this book to tout his UFO theories. A waste of time to read, but perhaps interesting to a child without previous knowledge of science.

A novelized history
Though what you may learn of the subject matter is facinating, the novelization approach and contrived dialogue sometimes borders on annoying.

As well, the amount of background information (on Edison, J.P. Morgan, etc.) provided sometimes is more distracting than helpful.

Good For Young Readers
I purchased this book wanting a good biographical account of Nikola Tesla. Though it is that, what I didn't realize was that it is really aimed at young readers (ages 9-12). Nothing on the cover or the introduction mentions that fact. The odd book size(wide format), the larger font size and the limited vocabulary give it away as a juvenile selection. I would recommend it highly for that age group. However it was not the adult biography I looking for. I think I will give my copy to my son. I believe he will enjoy it.

A self-indulgent excercise in graphic design.
I'm relieved that I only checked this book out out from the libraray instead of dropping almost $50 to purchase it. While it purports to discuss typography, it's clear even from the table of contents - and certainly from the body of the book - that "Webworks: Typography" is largely an excercise in graphic design. And even the graphic design fails on its most basic level, that of coherance.

The book is made up of several mini-sections, each one devoted to a different web-available foundry. Six examples of each foundry's typefaces are presented in tiny boxes at the bottoms of the pages. The remaining 95% of the space is devoted to overwrought images and mutilated text relating each foundry's approach to typography.

It's barely comprehensible. Think of the worst example of fast MTV video-editing on paper. That's how this book is designed. There is a predilection for web design here, and clearly this is a book was created by and for young people with very little reverance for text. Judging by the samples in the book, many of these foundries are even trying to turn the letters we use for text into flashy monuments of their creativity. Nevermind the actual words, I guess.

I found two nice foundries in the book, not surprisingly both are situated in Europe, where there appears to be a stronger comprehension of the the concept of text legibility.

mostly uninspired faddish typography.
This book is filled with typography design that seems to have evolved with no knowledge of the past histoy of typographic design. Some of the comments made by the designers had some value, but the examples of their work didn't always match their jargon. The book is boring, uninspiring and I returned my copy. Save your money. There are better books out there.

fascinating
This book is a very visual account of what is on the cutting edge of typography today. Vivid colors and interesting layouts provide readers with a real "feel" for how the typographers use their designs for special effects. The authors of this book had a real eye for the true artists in typography. A great book for people who are interested in designing their own work or for those just looking for new and interesting contributors to this unique field.

Old, out of date and a waste of my time
This book is NOT new. It's a re-issue of a hardback book with a different cover (possibly so that idiots like me won't recognise it for the same sad book it was a few years ago!)

Many of the sites no longer exist. Most of the design 'concepts' are outdated. The CD-ROM has software from early 1997 which is USELESS.

I've been a web-designer dince 1994 , I saw this book (in it's previous cover) when it first came out. It was of little use and poorly researched and written THEN, it's even WORSE now.

The only people who would find this book interesting would be "web Design Historians" (if there IS such a creature) or the same ill-informed fools who thought "Creating Killer Websites" by David Seigel and "Websites that Work" by Roger Black were "good design books" and NOT two of the most conceited and pointless books on web design yet published.

My final recommendation! - DO NOT buy this book unless you're a "web design historian".

There must be better books on web design...
Appart being published this year, the book and its content is dated. There are sites up to four (!!!) years old... Sites look heavy and the included CD ROM is almost useless. I thought it contained the sites, but it's just a multimedia version of the book with anything fancy on the multimedia side. I was expecting a much better compilation, specially because of the publishing date. Well, at least it didn't cost me too much. But look for any other book before this. I'll pass it on as soon as I can. But it'll be hard to do so...
