A Great First Impression
During my first year of Graduate school towards earning my MFA I was asked if I had ever heard of Ida Appleboorg. I admitted that I had never heard of her and asked what she did. After a brief conversation ending with me writing down her name and promising I would look into her work I went to the university's library. They had a couple books and I spent hours pouring through them over and over until I knew I wanted to see more.

I ordered this book and have about worn it out. First it is a beautiful full color book with a beautiful format. It contains both installation and individual views of her work. I really was able to get a sense of the artist and how she paints. It is a beautiful book and a broad introduction to a great contemporary artist. What a role model for young female artists.

Wonderful Evocation of Arthurian Legends
After many, many years of good intentions I finally read Tennyson's Idylls of the King. What a pleasure and delight. The poetry is impressive, and the depiction of the Round Table is epochal. I have also compared it to some of Mallory. While Mallory established the standard for the Arthurian legend (in English, at any rate), Tennyson's poetry is far more impressive. The stories themselves seem more impressive in Tennyson's sure hands. Unfortunately, I also made the mistake of watching "Camelot" on video recently; what a travesty. Guenevere is referred to as Ginny, Sir Lancelot is called Lance, and the over-all Hollywood approach is debasing and embarrassing. One could be turned off from Camelot forever as a result of this atrocious film. Let us give praise for Alfred Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King. It is magnificent!

Learning From Someone Who's Been There
"It takes wisdom to have a good family, and it takes understanding to make it strong." Proverbs 24:3.

William Coleman has been married for more than thirty years and is the father of three children. In his book, IF I COULD RAISE MY KIDS AGAIN, Coleman shares his insights and lessons he's learned over the years. I find that I learn best from other parents who openly share their experiences. Coleman's vulnerability and frankness combined with Biblical teaching and his collection of personal stories, made his book an enjoyable read and an effective teacher.

The 22 short chapters cover a variety of parenting related topics. The chapters are: The Grand Tour; Stand on the Chairs and Shout; Aim for Respect Before Love; Let Them Pull the Cat's Tail; Spend More Time Together; Find a Church Life; Learning From Our Children; Give Them More Choices; I'd Smile More; The Relative Connection; Soothe the Savage; Pitch a Tent; Build Self-Confidence; Ride the Screaming Plunger; Set Unusual Goals; The Battle for the Supper Hour; Get Control of the Television; Share and Pray; The Almighty Dollar; Let Them Argue More; We'd Play More Games; and Graduation Time.

When my wife and I were expecting our first child, I knew that I had no idea what I was doing. I went out and bought a few books on parenting with the desire to begin building a strong parenting foundation that I could build on over the years. IF I COULD RAISE MY KIDS AGAIN is one book that I will regularly go back to.

The Best Tree and Shrub Book for the Northeast
Graves' book is authoritative, comprehsive and clear. It includes virtually all the trees and shrubs you are likely to encounter in the area. The outstanding illustrations are a major resource in themselves; combined with the winter and summer keys and the descriptions of each plant this is the only tree and shrub book you will need.

One of the greatest collections of the classic adventures
This beautiful suede book contains The Adventures, Memoirs, and Return of Sherlock Holmes, plus The Hound of the Baskervilles. The real attraction of this book lies in the original sketches that were created by Sidney Paget that were included. Each picture was meticulously drawn and helps to convey atmosphere of the stories. One is drawn into a world of horse-drawn carriages, gaslights, and foggy London air. Also inluded is a both moving and factual introduction plus the format of that the stories were presented in in the Stand magazine, where they were originally published. The reader is drawn into the comfortable ambience of the brilliant Sherlock Holmes, humble Watson, and the memorable cases which they solved. It is a shame that this book is no longer in print, and if any reader of this review should ever come in contact with it, I would urge that person to buy it and add it among their library. This is a true classic.

The Many Faces of Neuronal Imaging
A must have for any neuroscientist interested in the imaging of neurons. This manual has several chapters focusing on the most up-to-date neurophysiological and neuroanatomical techniques used commonly and uncommonly. The book discusses the full gamut of techniques and how they are applied to hypotheses on neural function. Fluorescent photolysis of caged neurotransmitters, optical imaging using laser scanning, multi-photon laser confocal microscopy, and fMRI are all covered in depth. The best feature of this book is that it is written concisely with several pertinent references at the conclusion of each chapter for easy reference. It does not deal directly with the fabrication and usage of intracellular recording pipettes which is adequately covered in books like R.D. Purves.

Very Inspiring!
This is a great book and an obvious labor of love for the author. Beautiful photographs of the earliest Christian churches. Most of us are uninformed on the history of the church. This book shows you where it took place and is unique. I highly recommend it.
