This is a great thriller which is bookended by a wounded Harry telling his incredible story to the doctor treating him. While the concept sounds like Hard Target, forget that bit of fluff. This is an extremely well crafted bit of British noir. The action is completely believable (if surpassingly violent at times). There are no slow mo two gun jumps from the fireball here. This is hard hitting, driven plotboiler with a lace of cool. The characters are as hard boiled as they come, and the story culminates in a classic twist.
The art here is gritty and realistic - perfectly married to the writing. And is it just me or does Harry look a great deal like Sean Bean?
Buy this if you can get it - it delivers.

If your focus is primarily on Shakespeare, you may do as well to consider some of the other Cambridge Companions" volumes: either "...Companion to Shakespeare" or "...to Shakespeare Studies" or "...to Shakespeare on Stage." (or if pursuing other authors, to... Jonson, Spenser, etc.). In Kinney's volume, however, you find a broader inclusion of the wide-ranging forces impinging on the writing environment of the 1590s. Without having to consult separate volumes on Authorship or 16th century lyric or the patronage system, the reader finds here excellent scholarly surveys of fifteen crucial regions of writerly concern.
The authors' conclusions are generally well referenced through notes (end of each chapter) and provide helpful recommendations for further reading by topic.
Additionally, there are chronologies of the 16th century at the front of the book which help you place literary, social and political in temporal relations to each other. Overall, an excellent investment in your appreciation of the gestation and birth of renaissance English literature.

To this element of our society we should not be participating in this fashion in the war on terrorism but, instead, be utilized only as the distributors of "goodies" while other civilian elements engage in "dialogue" with the various terrorist networks around the world. To try to "understand" them and, perhaps, change them from wanton killers to stable members of society.
What these boneheads need to do is read this excellent account of our military's involvement in battles from the formation of our country in 1867, including the Boer War, WW I and WW II, right through to the Korean War. Those men were warriors in every sense of the word, not the namby-pamby collection of glorified Boy Scouts that some would like to see our army become.
Author Bishop, a WW II Spitfire pilot, and son of the famed WW I Canadian ace, William "Billy" Bishop, tells it like it was.
I'm sure our men and women now in Afghanistan will do us just as proud.
