Holmes decisively exposes contemporary confusion about truth
If you want to understand the Christian view of what Truth is and what it means, especially in contrast to [post]modernity's confusion on that point, this is the book for you. I also recommend Holmes's (much more readily available) "The Idea of a Christian College".

Alligator Shoes
Miss Chamberlain's summer enrichment class thought "Alligator Shoes" was a very funny book. We especially like when the alligator gets locked in the shoe store and tries on all the shoes. We laughed outloud at all the funny shoes he tried on becasue alligators don't really wear shoes. Check this book out for a funny time.

Alligator Shoes...Fun, Short Book!!!
We really liked this book because the illustrations of the alligator were very funny. The text was short and simple to read. The ending was funny and surprising. We did not expect the book to end that way!
(Written in collaboration with a first grade class.)

Read Alligator Shoes
We think 6 and 7 year olds will enjoy reading this book. It is easy and fun to read. If you like shoes, this is the book for you!

Finally a historically accurate book on Hawaiian clothing!
It's about time that someone finally did real research into Hawaiian clothing, including the aloha shirt. This book is historically accurate. Much of what has previously been published is erroneous. What most of the world knows about Hawaiian clothing comes from the use of aloha shirts after WW2. While our beautiful environment stimulated the production of bold and beautiful textiles, these were used in more than just shirts. Arthur covers womens' wear as well, and presents hundreds of beautiful pictures along with an interesting to read description of the history and culture of Hawaii. Aloha attire is more complicated than many would understand. This book covers the clothing that has been produced in, and worn by people in Hawaii in the 19th and 20th century. Truly a wonderful book!

This is an applique quilter's dream book!
Forget the kids and buy this book for yourself if you're a quilter! In years to come it will serve as documentation for quilt historians of the fabrics available to late 1990's quilters. The quilted illustrations are each to-die-for wonderful pieces--even the title page is a spectacular quilt. If you let your children read it, make sure they have clean hands, just as you would with your own quilts.

Words of Wisdom
Arthur Milton, the man who saved me millions on my insurance thanks to his previous book, has really written a great book here. My grandson gave me this as a gift. Mr. Milton has plainly put to paper, those thoughts that many of us share about this great country. No, the US is not perfect by any stretch. It is out duty as Americans to fix those problems we have and Mr. Milton gives some wonderful suggestions. I would recommend this book to all my fellow countrymen. God Bless America!

Important, crucial evidence for the effects of pain
This is an important book to prevent pain in children. Janov proves that early pain has lifelong crippling effects. Physical pain and anoxia at birth is stored and continues to cloud our experience, he has found, emotional pain later too. He has found a way to reexperience such pain, and reverse its effects. Through observing many patients resolve problems, he was able to extract precisely what it is a neonate, baby, toddler and child need. It is crucial imformation for everyone, not just psychologists.

A Stunning Adventure
One of the best books I have read in ten years. I have been reading a LOT of books about opera but this one stands alone because it answers questions about what motivates, captures and captivates opera lovers. Poizat's book falls into three main pieces. He begins with a transcript of a long conversation that actually took place among passionate opera fans standing overnight for tickets to the next night's Tristan performance at the Paris Opera. The fans talk about their passion, bordering on obsession in many cases. What drives opera fans to spend too much money, to stand in the rain, to travel to other cities? Theirs is a quest for what Poizat calls "The Lost Voice." The second section explains, using psychology concepts, Jungian archetypes and a dizzying scope directly into the human soul. Poizat uses the concept of "jouissance" which the translator warns cannot be translated directly into English. It has elements of ownership, our ability to enjoy something because we possess it but also encompasses a type of ecstasy not removed from sexual pleasure. This is the driving force of the quest for The Lost Voice. Once experienced, we are ever seeking more. The third section illuminates how The Lost Voice appears in operas through many examples. Through The Lost Voice we experience divine silence, the silence that rings out after the Angel's Cry. The book wraps neatly by coming back to the waiting fans to hear the end of their conversation. "To go to the opera is to listen to life?" one says. "I'm absolutely certain of that," comes the answer. "A kind of truth appears, a physical truth...an intellectual truth even." The tape breaks off shorty thereafter at an ironic and profound moment in the conversation. Well, you have to read it for yourself! If you think you know what a book on opera reads like, you owe it to your jaded self to get this book. It raised the hairs on the back of my neck more than once. --Joy Hajduk-DeGraff, Chicago, Illinois

Unusual people find Christmas in different places.
Combining a collection of interesting (sometimes odd) protagonists with vibrant language, this book brings to life the back door of Christmas. The characters all seem blocked in one way or another-- they cannot find the joy, the center. When they do, it is not in the noise and tinsel and gifts-- they find it in the peace.
