Great for the money!
As a sommelier, I'm always looking for bargain books. As there are a multitude of wine and spirit books out there which I eventually buy, it's always refreshing to find a book under 8 bucks with such great content. Helen Arthur does a great job with the culture of whisky; from it's beginings to the present. I recommend this book to anybody wanting to know more about whisky, its culture, and its mystique

Best Buy I ever made!!!
When I first came across this book while shopping for Christmas presents, I thought oh I would have to come back here in January and pick up a copy of this for my study. Then just as I clicked to go on to something else I noticed that Amazon.com was almost out of this item. Okay we have to get it now. When this book arrived I was completely taken aback with how much more complete this book was than most I have looked at on the subject of whiskey, while still being enjoyable to read. This book is just not limited to American Whiskey, which happens to be my favorite, but has given the reader the chance to learn about Whiskey makers from around the world.
I know now that my personal favorite Makers Mark can now give a little room in my home bar to some of the other fine whiskey introduced to me by this book.

A great read aloud around Valentine's Day
Arthur and Francine are square dancing partners in gym class. They really like dancing together. Arthur's friends begin to think that Francine likes him, because she does nice things for Arthur like giving him her favorite baseball glove. Arthur begins to believe his friends and he distances himself from Francine. The way Arthur is avoiding Francine, causes her friends to think Arthur is in love with her. She begins to distance herself from Arthur. They both get new dancing partners. When they finally confront each other, they figure out their true feelings.
I am a kindergarten/first grade teacher. I read this book to my class around Valentine's Day. It is a great book for students this age. I think the students really like this book because at this age they are teased a lot about liking girls or boys. They can relate to Arthur and Francine in this book.

A Good Book For Any Time
Arthur and Francine do a lot of things together but some people start to think that they are in love. Are Arthur and Francine really in love? find out. This is one of Marc Brown's greatest books. You will love it.

This is a good starter book
This book provides details on the distribution and ecology of macaws. It also provides information on extinct species, as well as unconfirmed species. The book is obviously written by a breeder/hobbyist and tends to discount scientific studies in favor of anectdotal information. Range maps and ecological data on the species are interesting, and provide valuable information on the various macaws. The book was originally written in 1983, and has some out dated information, but all in all it is an informative and easy read, and should be part of any macaw lover's library.

A great starter book
This book provides interesting details on both living and extinct species of macaws. Detailed distribution maps and life history information provide details on the species and their habitats. The book is obvioulsy written by a hobbyist/breeder, and tends to discount science and research in favor of breeder's records and anectdotal information. It is also a bit alarmist (but possibly rightly so) regarding the loss of macaw habitat in the American tropics. Also it has some out dated information on macaw care, stemming from the fact that it was written in 1983 and later translated. All in all it is an easy read, provides interesting information, and is worth acquiring.

101 Things Every Kid Should Know About Science

A good book appealling to the inquiring mind of any child.
This is a good book for 3rd - 7th graders because its "strange but true" tidbit-based approach will appeal to any curious mind. What is particularly nice about the book is that it is NOT a haphazardly arranged collection of factoids, as so many kids science books are. Beres' book may provide information in small chunks, but the chunks build on one another, so after reading a chapter full of them you emerge with an understanding of the overall shape of earth science, for instance, or biology. It certainly isn't a textbook, but it will get readers interested in the way the world works and how scientists go about discovering those workings.

I found this book to be very informative, though it was kind of repetitive at times. Many different styles were covered and I think it was one of the best guitar books I've ever read.

Excellent book! Interesting and beautiful!
I thought this was a fabulous book. Honestly, I thought that I might not be interested in the subject matter when I picked it up, but I found it quite riveting. It was clearly researched and edited with tremendous detail--I enjoyed the many anecdotes that really brought it all to life. The reader truly feels the full impact of this monumental event--the first of its kind. Overall, I'd recommend it to European history lovers everywhere.

Abbeygate
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (August, 1978)
Author: Cecily Crowe
Amazon base price: $1.75
Used price: $9.75
Average review score:

Gothic Novel with Strong Heroine
Cecily Crowe should have gotten more recognition for her Gothics. Her heroines were strong, and capable of taking care of themselves. The heroine of Abbeygate holds her own, taking care of the master's children, even when there has been a murder.

This isn't one of those Gothics where the heroine suspects the brooding master of murder even though there isn't a shred of evidence. The master doesn't show up until after the murder, and though he has secrets, he's far from brooding. (He is charming, though!)

Cecily Crowe's "Northwater" was a better novel. But "Abbeygate" gave me the most pleasure.

A very basic ABC workbook
I purchased this book for my 5 year old. The book has one page for each letter of the alphabet. The page requires the child to trace the capital letter 4 times, then leaves a small amount of room for the child to practice the letter 3 or 4 times. The same format is there for the lower case letter. There are then 3 additional activites per page related to the letter. One of these is to find a sticker that begins with the letter and the other two usually involve circling pictures that begin with the letter.

I was disappointed with the lack of space for practicing each letter and the lack of reinforcement of the letter sound. Each page however does contain the basic knowledge that the child requires about the letter and each page is short enough so that the child does not get bored.
