Worth the Wait
I read The Winter Prince six or seven years ago and I didn't know a continuation was in the works until a few months ago. Which is probably a good thing considering how annoyingly slowly those months passed. It was not the sort of book you forget.

I read A Coalition of Lions in a day. It's a fast read and actually a good deal lighter than The Winter Prince, though that's not saying much. Though the books follow many of the same characters, the narrators are different and I thought COL was not nearly as intense. The history, descriptions, and imagery in this book were wonderful. There are some clever connections, excellent lines, and memorable moments as well.

While it deserves every one of those five stars, I couldn't conceive of saying it is as good as The Winter Prince. But this in a sort of Joseph Heller sort of way. When people tell him he never wrote anything better than Catch-22, he responds with "Who has?" My favorite part was Medraut hitting the target (well, no not really but that was great). He didn't get many lines, but I would (and did!) wait six years for him, too. Speaking of waiting, let's hope the next book is on its way to the printers.

Betrand Russell: pre-eminent pacifist and socialist
World War One was an epoch-making event which transformed the philosophy of Bertrand Russell from based mainly on logic, mathematics and epistemology to haumanitarian issues such as pacificism, freedom and the role of the state. "Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell: Pacifism and Revolution, 1916-18" provides glimpses into this transition and elucidates Russell's main arguments for pacifism and socialism: "No good to the community, of any sort or kind, results from the private ownership of land. If men were reasonable they would decree that it should cease tomorrow..." As private property is protected by the State, and the fraud and plunder that constitute property are sanctioned by legislation and enforced by weapons and war, Russell argued that the State is therefor a great evil and its functions must be taken over by community-based cooperatives and worker's syndicates. Fascinating, provocative and necessary reading.

Good informations for beginners.
This book has general informations about all cameras produced by Rollei before '80s. But more recent Rollei cameras are not in this book, e.g. Rollei 35 Classic. If you are a beginner into Rollei, it provides general information. If you need detailed information, this book may be not enough!

Terrific overview of historical events
Covers an amazing amount of material from the time the earth first started coallescing from space dust all the way through to the 1970's (the edition I have was published then, I'm not sure if it's been updated). The structure is perfect for categorizing political and cultural events to capture the essence of what was happening at a given point in time. It's designed to jump in and out of chapters (very good index, chapter headings, timlines, short sections). Each chapter is written by experts on that time, so you get the sense that you're always hearing from an expert, although each chapter "reads" a little differently.

I've been taking it with me traveling for the last 15 years to Japan, Russia, Greece, Italy, Germany. It's a great way to read about what was happening as I've travelled to historical sites.

Learn the Bible like Never Before
If you are looking for a great Bible study for a group or by yourself THIS IS IT! I used this and learned more about the Bible than I thought possible, which is saying A LOT since I was in Bible quizzing in high school and placed first in my church's district! Not only do you learn, but you understand and apply the Bible to life. Ms. Arthur is an absolute favorite of mine, and this is probably the best of the Inductive Bible Studies I've used. {:-)
