The City and the Stars
I originally read this book in the 1960's. I remember when I was done all I could think was,is there going to be another book? You see I couldn't get enough. Somewhere between then and the early 90's I lost the book. I bought it again in a revised version which I didn't like quite as well but it was still very good. The thing about this story is I actually felt as though I was there. If you haven't read "The City and the Stars" I highly recomend it. It is a timeless work that in my mind is one of Arthur C. Clarkes best works. It was probably the one book that led me to be a science fiction reader. I did read the english version.

CPA - ARE
This book provides a good summary of the CPA Accounting & Reporting examination. It saves me a lot of times to look for different reference books for a variety of topics covered in the examination.

It is a very good book to study before the examination. Q & A on each section also help to test my understanding. Sometimes, I would fall into a trap that I thought I understand but actually I don't. This book can resolve this type of problems.

Also, it is also a good tool to do the recap. Just revisit the book one week before the examination without doing the exercise and it does help you to remember those key points.

Overall, this book is good value for money.

Language Diversity and Thought : A Reformulation of the Linguistic Relativity Hypothesis
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (July, 1992)
Author: John Arthur Lucy
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

Relativism defended.
With perhaps the exception of moral relativism, all forms of Relativism are out of fashion at the moment, a point Lucy is clear to point out. Lucy is to be congratulated on sticking with the issue, showing that relativism is far from dead. His book is based on clear scientific research, and is most convincing. This book should be read by all students of anthropology and linguistics, but more so by cognitive science students who are being taught that relativism is a dead issue. An excellent book!

Lares

A modern classic!
This book belongs on the short list of modern classics along with Jack O'Connell's WORD MADE FLESH and Brock Kraft's THE LOST BOOK OF RAZIEL. The imaginary cities of Quinsigamond and Hamilton are not more complete without the addition of enigmatic Joyce Hilary James and Arthur Nevis. "The true etymology of the name lares (now signifying 'ghosts') must be sought in the Etruscan word 'lars'...They are the 'lares,' the conductors and leaders of men and women worldwide..."

A great book, very enjoyable to read
This is a remarkable autobiography. I highly recommend it, especially to those considering entering the legal profession.
Liman is a superb writer who's easy-to-read style makes reading the book both an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. Most importantly, Liman vindicates the legal profession by stressing the important contribution that good lawyers can offer to society. He also provides interesting insight into his role as a defense lawyer in the Michael Milken case and as a key player in the investigations of the Attica Prison riot and the Iran Contra scandal.

Learning from Data: An Introduction to Statistical Reasoning
Published in Hardcover by Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc (March, 1996)
Author: Arthur M. Glenberg
Amazon base price: $65.00

The Best Introductory Statistics Text Ever Written
I took Art's honors psychometric methods course at UW-Madison when I was a sophomore. Although I am a research analyst in industry and have a Master's degree in Statistics, I still use his book, both as a reference for my own research and to educate clients and co-workers. His book puts the math into plain English so that even non-mathematicians have a fighting chance to understand it. I highly recommend it every chance I get, even to people who have no experience in psychology.

The Legend of King Arthur
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (June, 1990)
Authors: Robin Lister and Alan Baker
Amazon base price: $18.95
Average review score:

A Fantastic Introduction
I can still remember reading this book as a child, gazing at the pictures and dreaming of far-off Britannia. It was the book that led me to fall in love with the legend of King Arthur, a slight obsession of mine that has brought me to such great books as The Dragon and the Unicorn and the Pendragon Cycle. This book is fantastic for anyone who would like to start learning the legends of the Round Table, Merlin, Guinevere and Lancelot, and of course the once and future king himself, Arthur.

LETHAL SECRETS PB
Published in Paperback by Amistad Press (October, 1999)
Authors: Annette Baran, Reuben Pannor, and Arthur D. Sorosky
Amazon base price: $9.56
List price: $11.95 (that's 20% off!)
Average review score:

Invaluable, ahead-of-its-time book on donor insemination
"Lethal Secrets" takes a long-range view of donor insemination by interviewing donor offspring, donors and parents years after the fact. Taking a hard look at the ramifications of secrecy and donor insemination is not the norm, nor is advocating for openness. Many, if not most, doctors, patients and sperm banks continue to advocate for secrecy, blithely ignoring the psychological dangers of this widespread practice. Baran and Pannor are ahead of their time. They support donor insemination, yet argue persuasively for openness: not only is it every child's right to know the truth of his or her genetic heritage, it is healthier for the parents and the donors, as well. If you are considering using donor insemination or even donor egg to have a child, this book is invaluable. I only wish the authors would write a book specifically about the psychological aspects of using donor egg
