Cotterell casts a broad net on the Classical World
Similar to other dictionaries on the Classical World, From Aristotle to Zoroaster has some points which make it stand out from many of the others.

First its accessible. This dictionary is NOT directed at the classical scholar, or even a classics major in College (although both of them would appreciate this work). Its target is the lay reader and assumes only that you have a passing familiarity with ancient history.

Second, it casts a broad net. Most works of this time center themselves around the Mediterranean, but Cotterell has entries for points as far as China and India. His reasoning for including these (ie. none of these civilizations, including the Greek were in isolation from each other) is a good one, and I found myself interested in "what the Indians were doing" at the same time as the more familiar events in Greece, Rome and the Mediterranean region.

The book's maps and tables are well done, and give great overviews of the period . The illustrations, which are numerous, are well done, too. Although some of the entries seem a bit idiosyncratic (like "INVENTIONS"), by and large, this is an excellent work, and highly recommended to anyone with an interest in the period.

Make your trip to the carribean a breeze!
Frommer's book was very helpful on our honeymoon! We had never been to the carribean, so needless to say we would have been wondering aimlessley if it weren't for this "lifesavor" of a book. I would recommend this book to anyone who might be traveling to the carribean area. It gives you full detail in most areas you can imagine, from lodging to excursions to dining. You name they seem to have covered it, it is a must buy!

Good travel book
It's a good guide to Chicago. It helped me plan my trip, and navigate my way through the city. However, like any other travel book, some sites in Chicago do go out of business, and is still listed in the book. So, I suggest calling ahead or asking your concierge if the place is still in business. The book is a good starting block for your first trip to Chicago. It gives descriptive information on transportation through the city and suggestions on things to do in and around the city. The book is segemented into activties and then boroughs of Chicago, so it provides a good planning guide for your trip to Chicago.

Frommer's 2000 Washington, D.C. Postcards from Washington, D
I found this guide extremely useful. I bought it the night before my Memorial Day weekend in DC, read it on the plane and carried it everywhere with me. My favorite feature was the "Women who have made a difference" section which was a guide to places in DC celebrating Women and their accomplishments. Every guide book should have such a section. I used this and other sections to tailor a three day tour that focused on Women and it was delightful. Very useful also were the guides to the subway (I didn't feel at all like a tourist and saved a bundle) and the other special sections that highlighted especially significant features of this city that you could otherwise spend an entire lifetime exploring. Well worth the purchase price. Only one phone number was incorrect.

Easy to Use Guide for 1st Trip Planning
I recently bought this book and have found it generally useful for planning my first trip. The book is well organized and gives a great overview of activities and places to see before it guides you through each region.

However, those interested in adventure travel that veers off the beaten path a little more may be wise to purchase a second book that delves more into these sorts of offerings, as this book does not cover this sort of thing very well.

Over all, though, it's a good book to have.

Driving Through Europe
A friend of mine loaned this book to me to read since I have been considering a driving tour of Europe. I am going to order my own copy now because after reading the book, I am now confident enough to actually make the trip. My copy will go with me to guide me through the areas I want to see. As usual Frommer gives you the ins and outs so if you are thinking of making the trip, this book is a must. See you in Europe!

Quick & Concise for on-the-go traveling
This book proved itself very useful for out weekend drive up the coast. Naturally, there are many places to stay or dine, but you can't list them all (in this "portable" book). However, we did need to purchase a Maine Highway Map for better directions. I wish I'd gotten the book BEFORE I made Hotel reservations!

A stone-age tool addicts guide to Britain
Although now dated, this book is an excellent source for those interested in early hominid settlement and relocation in north western Europe. The main use of this book is as a reference for tool typology which can help show development and spread in ideas and techniques of these peoples.

Can someone please persuade the publishers to reprint this volume, (and possibly get it updated with all the later found sites).
