Hard hitting
Kernberg's treatment model reflects an approach to the therapy of borderline patients that is based upon ego psychology-object relations conceptualization, that is, a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy that relies on interpretatio of the transference. The aim of the treatment, he states, is to "enhance the patient's ability to experience self and others as coherent, integrated, realistically perceived individuals, and to reduce the need to use defenses that weaken ego structure by reducing the repertoire of available responses."

He covers all the bases, with clarity and authority -- the Principles of Treatment, the Phases of Treatment, and Common Complications. The book ranges from theoretical to very didactic -- there's a chapter called "Conducting a Session" that is very illuminating. Kernberg, who is an expert in the field, doesn't let you down in this instructive book on a notorously difficult subject. What strikes me most about his book, and about him, are his hard-hitting clarifications, confrontations and interpretations.

To one patient he says, "I am impressed by your telling me that you shared your new slides with the very person you have been suspecting of plagiarizing other researchers' work."

To another he says, "I think you have been trying to provoke me into an argument in order to protect yourself against the emergence of sexual fantasies about me. What do you think about this?"

To another, "Whipping prostitutes and acting tough with me have similar functions..."

One gets the idea that he is relentless in pursuit of therapeutic healing. You can read his book and learn, but the question is, can you do the actual therapy as he does.

I highly recommend this book for an understanding of the treatment of borderlines -- the challenges, the goals, the actualities of the treatment room, the countertransference pitfalls and opportunities, the intense, chaotic transferences, and the forms of resistance.

It was a very good book!!!!!!
A Pup in King Arthur's Court is about a dog named Wishbone who loves to read and imagines himself as Hank Morgan, a Connecticut Yankee who goes back in time and goes to King Arthur's court. Kids who like stories about dogs should read this book because it is like a 2 in 1 story-book. I don't want to spoil the ending. So get this book if you want to know the ending!

Quaker Crosscurrents: Three Hundred Years of Friends in the New York Yearly Meetings
Published in Paperback by Syracuse University Press (June, 1995)
Authors: Hugh Barbour, Christopher Densmore, and Arthur Worrall

This is a splendid history of an active religious group.
This book provides a remarkable glimpse into the rich history of the Hudson River Valley and Upstate New York into Canada through the lens of the Quakers. Formerly a prominent religion in New York State ranking third at the beginning of the 19th century, New York Quakers have had a leading role in education, prison reform, women's rights, peace activism and temperance. The chapters on the 19th century are particularly rich in fascinating details while the 20th century material is a little more general.

Andronik Makes it her best
Of the other books I've read by Andronik, this is deffinetly her best. It left me in tears-not because it was sad, but because it was the best book I ever read-or one of them. It asked you the question instead of telling you, and helped you support your own decision. I really would like to thank Andronik for putting her talent into writing, and that no matter what, she wrote!

Great book that is simple and concise
This book does a brilliant job of categorizing the basics of money and investing. Simply answering complex questions when it comes to Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, Retirement, and more, I have found this book indispensible when it comes to explaining to others about the basics of investing. It is a MUST read for any investor who is completely clueless when it comes to investing.

Jakushitsu's poetry: for quiet reflection and solitude
I thought I had heard of all the great Zen poets, until I found Arthur Braverman's translation of Jakushitsu (1290 - 1367), complete with helpful commentary and an introduction providing a brief biography of Jakushitsu's unusual life. Jakushitsu was ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of seventeen, and studied with Japanese and Chinese Zen Masters both in Japan and China. After six years in China with Rinzai Zen master Chung-feng Ming-pen, Jakushitsu returned to Japan and wandered the mountains for years, seeking seclusion, and writing. This is poetry of solitude, drawing on the lush poetic heritage of Zen and Taoism. Quiet realization and deep insights are to be found in this masterful translation.

"Neither seeking fame/nor grieving my poverty/I hide deep in the mountain/far from worldly dust/Year ending/cold sky/who will befriend me?/Plum blossom on a new branch/wrapped in moonlight"

It is a great pleasure to recommend this translation of Jakushitsu's poetry. If you love the Zen poets and want a very satisfying book for your quieter, comtemplative moods, this is a must! I wrote this review and some more, about the author, on my site at www.yakrider.com. Hope you enjoy.

The Unique Russell
Anti-catholic, pro-jewish, and maybe the most important brain of our corrupt, insane, and bygone 20th century, Russell speaks for a generation that is starting to realize certain inviolable truths vital to the continuation of mankind. Doomed as we are, cynical as I am, and one-hundred per cent correct Russell is when stating human nature is actually corrigible. For when this aspect is fixed, and humans will no longer emulate quasi-virus patterns and replicate wars over and over, only then can Russell be judged as right or wrong regarding the fate of man. What is peace? What is war? What is knowledge? I consider Russell the king of intellectual snobs.

Fun book of quotations about and by the Great Detective!
A modern look at quotations from the Sherlockian Canon, done in an amusing and interesting way. Each group of quotes on a subject is then put under headings such as: "HIS CHOSEN AEROBIC ROUTINE," "JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS," and "PLEASE CONFUSE ME WITH THE FACTS."

The original Sidney Paget drawings are throughout the book, and the cover looks suitably Victorian/Edwardian. It's a small volume, but it contains, as the back page says: "THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HOLMES."

Keep it close by, as a reference tool, or just a book to thumb through. It's worth it!
