Very informative and resourceful!
This book contains useful information about the history of educational technology, its present uses and recommendations. Although it is only 120 pages, it is very informative and resourceful. The book is great for both the newcomer and the researcher. The only downside is that educational technology is evolving quickly so the book may unfortunately be outdated soon.

Annals, is a well researched invaluable guide.
I'm thrilled to see this reprint of Annals of the Fowler Family! I've been trying unsucessfully for years to find a copy of the original 1901 book. If your Fowlers are in the southeast, there's a good chance you'll find them here. This book gave me 3 generations of ancestors I hadn't yet tracked down and gave me information that enabled me to track down more generations. It also contained a letter written by my great-great grandfather. People are always asking me where they can buy this book. Now I can tell them! (My Fowler line is in Blount Co., AL and Wake Co., NC)

Francis Marion, The Swamp Fox
South Carolina was the setting of more battles during the American Revolution than any other state. This Palmetto State had its share of heroes, foremost among them Francis Marion. Veteran storyteller, Kay Cornelius, colorfully details Marion's life from his plantation childhood through his valiant fight for freedom and his return home after the war. Marion's Brigade made a name for themselves in outwitting the British by slipping in and out of their headquarters deep in the swamp. British cavalry who tried to pursue them sank into mud. A British commander said, "We'll never find that cursed Swamp fox!" From then on Marion became known as the Swamp Fox. This Revolutionary War figure deserves attention as a hero and worthy role model. Young readers need more books like this. The addition of a glossary, chronology relevant to Marion's life, Revolutionary War time line, index, and suggestions for further reading make this book enticing for classroom study.

Excellent Primer for anyone considering Genealogy Research
While this book focuses on one man's search for his family history, his examples could be of value to anyone who is considering beginning a research project. Mr. Kurzweil's joy of discovery is very compelling, and was probably a big reason why I got into the hobby myself.

There is plenty of practical advice on how to start, where to look for documentation, how to interview, etc. While the book lacks depth in some areas, it covers every important facet of Genealogical research, and provides a point to jump from in search for more information.

Helpful book for chaplains and caregivers
I fail to realize why this book is not used more by chaplains and caregivers who help the sick. It contains prayers from the ages, and helps to describe the way prayer and faith speed the healing process.

From Panic to Peace of Mind: Overcoming Panic and Agoraphobia
Published in Hardcover by Bruno Pr (December, 1991)
Authors: C. B. Scrignar and Arthur Nead
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $7.49

Excellent Book On Anxiety Disorders
C.B. Scrigner's From Panic To Peace of Mind is truly one of the classics, when it comes to books on anxiety and panic disorders.

Dr. Scrigner's book is unlike most that you will find on the subject, in that he approaches anxiety disorders from a largely unbiased point of view. Most books in this category preach purely cognitive methods of combating anxiety disorders and agoraphobia, while others focus on the physiological aspects of the disease. This is one of the few that draws a balance between the two, and acknowledges that no one solution is right for everyone.

This is a pretty basic book from most perspectives, so you will not need any prior knowledge of medical jargon in order to keep up. Yet it largely sticks to a clinical overview that is aimed at doctors, patients and others who are affected by anxiety/panic disorders, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorders, and more simple phobias.

About the only downside of this book is its limited size and depth. It's a fairly quick read. There is only enough room for a fairly basic discussion of very complicated subjects such as psychopharmacology, cognitive therapy, methods of dealing with stress, etc. Still, it gives an excellent overview of these diseases, and the basic methods of treatment.

This is definitely not a book that pretends to "cure" people of phobias or psychological disorders, as many seem to do these days. What it will do is give you a much better understanding of how anxiety disorders "work" and how to most effectively treat them. For anyone with an interest in anxiety or panic disorders, this is an excellent volume to have on your bookshelf.

From Plant to Blue Jeans: A Photo Essay (Changes)
Published in School & Library Binding by Children's Book Press (October, 1997)
Author: Arthur John L'Hommedieu
Amazon base price: $24.50
Average review score:

A Great Non-Fiction Book for Young Readers and Pre-Readers
This book is a very interesting short explanation of the processes involved in making blue jeans. It uses simple words, but is not a dumbed-down narrative. It's great for that budding process engineer in your household - the one whose favorite question isn't "Why?", but "How?"

The book is illustrated with a variety of stock photographs, many with children as the focal point. This helps grab and maintain youngsters' interest.

Since blue jeans are a common item in most kids' lives, this overview of where they come from can serve as a springboard for many interesting discussions of where other everyday things come from.

The book does contain some unfamiliar words, but at about one sentence per page, the book will not frustrate newer readers - probably 2nd grade level or advanced 1st grade level. It's also a great book for reading to younger kids.

Highly recommended.

A Must Read... If You Don't Have These Three Books
This collection is obviously very good (just look at the incredibly high number of copies sold). It contains two excellent novels: The Deep Range, and the all-time SF classic The City and The Stars. Also included is The Other Side of The Sky, which is a collection within a collection (!) that has many good short stories within it. If you want to know my opinions of these three books on their own then read my review of them here on Amazon. If you haven't already read those three, then this book is a must for you.

Comprehensive, informative guide to England
Most travel guides to Britain suffer from one of two drawbacks: either they cover too little {London and its environs} or they cover too much {Scotland and Wales as well as England}. This guide focuses exclusively on England {including generous coverage of London} and is thus ideal for those planning a genuinely English trip that includes cities and towns outside London as well as the countryside. It provides essential information {such as hours, prices, phone numbers, and accepted credit cards} and helpful reviews of many sites, accommodations, and restauraunts. Light on pictures but heavy on utility, it is organized according to region and has an exceptionally detailed index. Paricularly helpful are the sections on planning a trip and the online direcrory. Although I have been to England several times already, I still found this guide to be helpful in planning my upcoming trip--and I plan to take it with me!
