Wisdom's Book: The Sophia Anthology
Published in Hardcover by Paragon House (May, 2000)
Author: Arthur Versluis
Amazon base price: $29.95

Great Sampling of Sophia Teachings
This is attractively bound, very nice selection of works of seekers who've followed the Sophia tradition of Jacob Boehme. The book is organized by writer with a short synopsis of their life and works followed by selections of their writings. The analogy includes works by Bohme, John Pordage, Jane Leade, Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, Franz von Baader, and others. Like his previous books Theosophia and Wisdom's Children, it's a teaser --I find myself wanting more from writers whose works are not available. But it gives a nice sampling of the continuation of acknowledgement of Sophia through post-reformation mystical traditions. It's a good selection of material. The prior two books do a better job describing the organizations, histories, and biographies. This is a great book for people who are new to Sophia teachings or new to protestant mysticism (yes, there is such a thing!) The selections of actual writings are wonderful and the personality of each work is apparent. Each selection is fertile grounds for mediation and contemplation. An excellent, inspiring work. Buy it. Give it as a gift. Tuck it under your pillow or in your desk drawer for inspiration and peace.

It's funny and everything is true!!!
This book is absolutely funny and shows the different points of view between men and women in several aspects, at the same time teaches how they think and behave helping us to understand them better. We act exactly the way is written there, and the men too! It was quite funny (and annoying) to read about their (and our) behavior, but it's all true! It's a funny "day-by-day" book about men and women...

A World Apart: The Journal of a Gulag Survivor
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow & Company (September, 1986)
Authors: Gustav Herling, Bertrand Arthur Russell, and Andrzej Ciozkosz
Amazon base price: $2.98
Used price: $7.25
Average review score:

A harrowing and thought provoking story of courage and hope
Herling maintains a sombre note throughout the book, but he rarely judges or seeks revenge. Very similar to Primo Levi, Herling decides to portray the horror of a place where very few accounts survive in an almost detached account. He compliments matter-of-fact observation with more metaphysical psycholoically challenging idealism, a style that works well without ever confusing either the reader or the issue. Despite the overall tone, he even manages to inject some scattered humour, illustrating that the human animal is a very accepting species. As long as one has hope, almost anything can be survived. This book is perhaps one of the most valuable insights to an almost ignored horror.

An Important Contribution to Mental Health Literature
This book will open your eyes to problems that the world is dealing with in the mental health field. Issues such as depression, schizophrenia, sexual abuse, and substance abuse are seen differently when Western nations read about third world countries. While Americans are concerned about which medicine or therapy to take for their mental health, the third world countries are trying to get any help they can. A recommended book for any library.

Excellent Book on Different Worldviews
Having read this book for Dr. Naugle's Philosophy class, I got this book first hand. It was one of our textbooks for his class, and it was a hard read. It was his dissertation, and the language in it can tend to be obscure. He sets out to analyze various worldviews from various perspectives. Being distinctly Christian, Dr. Naugle has three chapters on various Christian worldviews (Chapters 1,2,9). But, his philosophical insights into it at just short of amazing. This is a tremendous book from a tremendous man (And when you get through with it you will definitely know what 'Weltanschauung' means!)

A glimpse into a life
This book is a look into the life of a man who was present during some important times in the history of the United States. It seems very revealing of things I didn't know. I enjoyed the book, but I may be biased. He is my uncle.

Life Is A Group Grope
Frank's novel does a masterful job in identifying the "voice" we all need in the battle with life threatnening illness. Embracing and affirming the "whole person" through their storytelling goes far in overcoming the modernist approach in treating the illness without the person. Recognizing the struggle as an opportunity for journey also sounds the call to help others currently in the trenches to bring about healing. This is a beautiful book.

from the heart
I think this is an excellent book which shows the truth on the hearts of the world's youth. Many books today work to stigmatize or give a bad name to this generation when infact, as this book demonstrates, we are a generation of hopful, honest, and motivated young men and women.
