Excellent Daily Devotional During Trials
This book is an excellent daily devotional, separated by subjects for quick reference. This book changed my life and kept me focused on God through a very bad marriage and eventual divorce. I was alone during most of my trials so having Kay with her wisdom in this book strengthened my faith and walk with God. I have bought this book for other women in trials and it has greatly helped them also. Kay discusses many questions we ask ourself during trials and shows us scriptually how to answer these hard questions and where God is during our trials.

An excellent extension of Frank Reno's exploration of Arthur
"Historic Figures of the Arthurian Era" is Frank Reno's follow-up to his "The Historic King Arthur"... The work presented here extends Reno's explorations into the real world of "King Arthur" as found in the ancient written texts. It's a detailed, challenging book which should be of great interest to anyone who strongly wishes to better understand what lay behind all those centuries of legend and myth.

Tough going, but worth it
The ad for this book recommends it for young teens. No way! This is a very dense series of books and requires some very close reading. If you're willing to do that though these books are very worthwhile. They discuss every presidentiaal election from that of George Washington to the younger Bush in great detail and also provide documentations from the relevant period (the Jay Treaty, editorials from newspapers, the party platforms, and much more).

I would highly recommend this series for anyone interested in the history of presidential elections and how it developed over time.

The History of Spiritualism

The St. Paul of Spiritualism
Besides being the Father of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the St. Paul of Spiritualism. Having become disenchanted with the Roman Catholic faith at an early age, Doyle searched for years, before becoming a convinced Spiritualist. The evidence that convinced him was communication with his son, Kingsley, who died at the end of the great war. This information came through in seances. Doyle often remarked,"If only they could know". Doyle not only believed, he knew! This book is extremely well written, as one would expect from a writer of Doyle's distinction. The early beginnings with Swedenborg are covered, as well as important phenomena and mediums of the time. To me, as a Spiritualist minister, the greatest chapters are on the religious aspects of Spiritualism, which Doyle explains in great depth. This is a scholarly book, which I require my students to read. But it is more than worth the time, when one considers what one learns from this authority. Doyle traveled extensively in the cause of the faith and established several churches in Australia. I wish all readers the same exciting learning experience that I had when I first read this book!

Absorbing reading
This book covers British history very well for the period from 1914 to 1999. So much one has lived through, and it is interesting to see it treated by a historian, who does not hesitate to give his views on what transpired. I found myself really caught up by the account of the momentous events which occurred during the years since 1914.

The Hitchhiker's Quartet

The purist edition!
This omnibus publishing of the Hitchhikers Quartet contains the first four books of the Hitchhikers Trilogy, considered the only true Trilogy by many purists. The series starts with the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, then continues with The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe and Everything and rounds out with So Long and Thanks For All the Fish. This is considered me many the core of the Guide's story, and that "Mostly harmless" takes the story in an unwanted direction and prematurely ends the series with the elimination of 3 of the main characters. Most hardcore Adams purists prefer to leave the story hanging with the possibility of the infinite possibilities possible in an infinite universe.

Learning about the Holy Spirit has never been more exciting!
I am currently involved with a bible study group that is reading this book. At first, the other students and I were leery of the subject matter. Many people are confused by what the Holy Spirit is, how we receive it, and how it enables us. By doing this inductive bible study I have realized there is so much more to the Holy Spirit than speaking in tongues. Kay Arthur's approach is both unique and extraordinalrily effective. The book is more than a study of the Book of Acts but a comprehensive Bible study. She divides each week into 7 daily lessons, allowing you to do a small part of the study each day. Some days are more intense than others. Each lesson pulls various scriptures from all over the Bible. She then compares and contrasts the scriptures to the Book of Acts. The book also includes a color-coding technique to help you better reference your favorite Bible. This book is spiritually intense, but everyday you go away feeling like you have learned so much. Kay Arthur is able to clearly articulate her thoughts in a way that is enlightning and uplifting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the Holy Spirit.
