COMEDIANS
The photography is done beautifully in black and white, and the subjects are portrayed in a very down to earth, human manner. It's unfortunate Grace was unable to capture Eddie Murphy. The man is extremely talented, and should have been included.

This book is essential for any ambitious person!
I originially bought this book for a class I was taking, thinking that it would simply fulfill a requirement and nothing more. I couldn't have been more wrong! Long after I needed this book for my class, I consulted it time and time again for tips on how to write effective letters for scholarships, conveying sensitive information, and much more. Norman Sigband and Arthur Bell have created the definitive source for how to advance in the bureaucratic world that is the United States.

The Complete Guitar Player Bob Dylan Songbook

Sooner or later one of us must know
I bought this book for my father, a Dylan afficianado who enjoys playing the guitar. He felt the song selection was good, not only mixing in some newer songs with the old standards, but also mixing genres (folk, rock, etc.). The chord charts were simple and well defined. The print was clear and easy to read. The editors had the good sense to leave out Like A Rolling Stone (it's just too famous), but they took up a lot of unnecessary space with Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands. His primary criticism was that there were no songs from Dylan's Christian albums, which are some of the musician's very best.

Touching and Sweet
I liked the tape very much. My son who is 8 months old likes to listen to the different voices. I like that it has the voices I grew up with, Ed Asner, Bea Arthur, Lily and Mary. My favorite part is the song "Just the Same" by Margaret Bailey. I would love to find more songs by her. My only regret is that it is so short (18 minutes).

a wonderful little book, a lot packed in a few pages.
I found the book a good introduction to IBC(informatin based complexity)and highly readable. The author raises a considerable number of interesting problems and questions and sketches out some interesting results. This is an excellent book for anyone interested in numerical methods around integration, complexity, computability, tractability, ill posed problems in general. An amazing number of open problems are discussed for anyone looking for research projects and these range from problems that may be doable to those that look virtually impossible. I found the use of a real-number model of computing a powerful change from Turing model. The overall strength of the book is the exposure to new ideas involving computational models, and how these ideas can help one solve and approach computational problems of both a theoretical and a practical nature -- particularly those involving "real" numbers.

A fine summary of contracts
The book is organized nicely and presents a nice overview for contracts. It's an ideal introduction to the area of contracts for the law student but a little bit cumbersome for review for those who have already taken contracts. Although the book has been cut down from earlier editions, it still seems a bit long. Compared to other contracts casebooks, there is a lot more coverage to non-traditional areas of contracts such as mediation and lawyer-client relations.

Detailed history of Cornish immigrants
You'll love this book if any of your ancestors were Cornish miners. It explains the conditions in Cornwall during the 19th century that forced so many to emigrate and gives endless documentation of the people who came to Wisconsin, California, Nevada and Colorado to mine lead, gold, silver and copper. If your roots are Cornish you'll be proud of their grit, hard work and skill.

THE SOUTH ON THE EVE OF THE CIVIL WAR
Frederick Law Olmstead travelled extensively throughout the south during the antebellum period, as reflected in this book. He considered the effects of slavery on both blacks and whites and found it to have pernicious effects on both. Although written prior to the Civil War, the book (actually a series of extensive selections from the three original volumes based on his newspaper articles written during his travels)provides a rather indepth and refreshing look at well-known history and looks at the diverse roles played by blacks, white southerners, (and northerners!) in slavery. He also examines their views on the slave issue itself: some nascent Southern abolitionists and colonialists, as well as advocates of slavery, appeared rather intelligent and some otherwise. Many considered slavery an insoluble problem and others defended it as a necessary evil which benefitted blacks and whites alike(!). After completing his tour (including a rather interesting situation in which a black slave seriously injures a biracial runaway, has him clapped in irons and sent to jail - much to the amusement of some white southerners - & an enlightening discussion, especially in light of Talty's research showing persons of pure white descent, including adult foreigners and children who were originally indentured were kidnapped or illegally sold into slavery, of how demeanor would be an adequate determinant of whether or not a "white" slave was really free or not), he provides a critical analysis of slavery and its effects on the south.
