Crescent City Cocktails and History
This book provides a nice insight on old New Orleans and the impact its bars and barteneders had on the devlopment of some of America's classic cocktails. Most recipes are accopmanied by a bit of history of New Orleans and the orgin of each drink. It does a wonderful job of giving background and insight on the Sazerac, Mint Julep, and Ramos Gin Fizz...all of which are standard cocktails in the Big Easy and have earned their place as "classic cocktails". Imbibers who prefer some of the more modern drinks of our time may be a little confused or diaaspointed with the recipes in this book since they are truly "old school'..many dating back to the turn of the century and pre-prohibition. Nonetheless, the history and colorful stories in this book will surely please anyone who is in love with the "Old South" and the Crescent City!

Fault Related Rocks!
This is an excellent book and provides some of the best illustrations of fault zone rocks ever collected. The shear number of high quality photomicrographs and field photos with comments by the experts on the rocks will make it an outstanding reference for students of tectonics and petrology. This book could be easily combined with books like "Microtectonics" by Passchier and Trouw to make an advanced undergraduate or graduate course in fault zone kinematics and textures. Excellent.

A desperate fight...
A different approach in the search of pleasure. The incensant search for meaning to achieve individuality. In short, a fantastic, though, antagonistic crossbreed amongst them. Existence and death to numb loneliness at its best... Highly recomended!

For completists
Based on the limited information provided about this out-of-print book, I am not certain that the one I am about to review and that which is listed are one in the same. However, their titles are exact, so I will assume that this is the book collected by Peter Haining and published in the 1990s. This book is a great boon to the many obsessed fans and scholars of Doyle's work, as it reprints many obscure articles, stories, and plays that might otherwise be unavailable. Little of this material approaches the quality we expect of the regular Holmes canon, but much of it is interesting. This book contains: Two commentaries by Conan Doyle about his creation, neither of which sheds much new light. Two brief Doyle parodies of his own characters, neither of which are very funny. Two short stories in which a noted detective that many believe to be Holmes plays a small and unfruitful letter-writing part. A fascinating plot outline by Doyle for a story he never wrote. A poem Doyle wrote to defend himself against a critic. Two of Doyle's other short stories, that have much less to do with Holmes than Mr. Haining seems to imagine, but one of which, "The Mystery at Uncle Jeremy's Household" is a ripping good yarn anyway. A long story called "The Adventure of the Tall Man" which Mr. Haining wants to believe is written by Doyle, but which stylistically stinks to high heaven of being written by someone else. Two short plays by Doyle, one of which is an odd Holmes comedy and the other of which is an excellent stage version of what would become "The Mazarin Stone." Also, a most interesting list of Doyle's own favorite Holmes stories. All in all, this is a hodge-podge, valuable to completists and students of Holmes.

Finding Your Perfect Love: (Within and Without

Techniques for Finding Loving Relationships
Clark and Skouras use many terms to describe a loved one, from essence contact, to soulmates, to deep ease, to divine love. Then they add several deeper possibilities: hyper or liquid love, magical self, perfect love and fusion. A relationship can be measured on the "loveometer" to show the percentage of merger. It is this percentage that determines the nature of the relationship.

The authors list several techniques to help you attract your perfect love. These include channeling, therapies, affirmations, support groups and transformational dreaming. To attract souls (usually from past lives), you need a sense of "havingness," high self-esteem and intent.

Their technique (usually practiced in a group but possible to do alone) is to have you list all the qualities you want in a relationship and to communicate this to a support person. In doing so, you clarify exactly what type of soul you wish to attract, or perhaps find you really do not want a relationship at this time. When you feel this relationship on both a conscious and subconscious level, you will begin to attune to the energy of the person you are to meet. By repeatedly tuning into this energy, you will bring this person into your life in from 3 to 12 months.

Read success stories, about how to link with your twin flame, the frog-prince synbdrome, illusion and using awareness to unlock divine intent. If you have been thinking of drawing loving relationships into your life, this book gives you ways to do so.

First Emancipation: The Abolition of Slavery in the North
Published in Textbook Binding by University of Chicago Press (June, 1967)

Fascinating!
In this readable study, Arthur Zilversmit tells the story of the abolition of slavery in the North. Slavery in the North is a generally overlooked and forgotten chapter in the history of American slavery, and Zilversmit's work is one of the few on its abolition. He contends that slavery was profitable in the North, and in some areas, entrenched. As such, abolition met with serious opposition, especially in New York and New Jersey. Moreover, Zilversmit argues that Revolutionary ideology significantly aided the work of gradual abolition. He also notes how far some of the northern abolitionists had come toward advocating the essential equality of the races. Such enlightened views are interesting in light of the abuse abolitionists would receive in the North in the antebellum years. I recommend this work to all students (and teachers) of American slavery and abolition. If you are unable to find a copy of this book, you might want to try Joanne Pope Melish's DISOWNING SLAVERY: GRADUAL EMANCIPATION AND "RACE" IN NEW ENGLAND, published in 1998.

Five biggest ideas goes over big
"The Five Biggest Ideas In Science" is a great summary of intricate scientific theories. Cartoons, diagrams and humor help explain in lay terms what makes the five theories BIG to scientists and how the scientific method works. Lively discussions and relevant examples clearly define the topics for readers. Contributions of scientists that led to the current theories also give important historical information. Idea folders associated with each chapter lead readers in search of more information. This is a must read for anyone interested in how science works.

This is a great read for early learners who are just being introduced to the concepts of the flow of water. Two young children, one boy and one girl, follow rain water from brook to ocean. The book goes into enough detail to give the reader a base, and includes a few other pieces of information that might urge your reader to explore more.

great epopea of italian medieval way of life
Francesca da Rimini is the attempt by D'Annunzio to realize a type of woman different from others females characters during italian romanticism and the first years of the new century(you can see the differents from Francesca by S.Pellico). D'annunzio goes far and realized a poem full of sensuality, violence and poehtic lirism

Frankenstein, the Man and the Monster
Published in Paperback by Benjamin, Ross & Lane (November, 1999)
Author: Arthur Belefant
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $35.32
Average review score:

Frankenstein is the monster, not Frankenstein's monster
If this book had been written soon after Mary Shelley's, all the entertainment since garnered from Shelley's book for movies, Halloween, etc., etc. would not exist. Belefant completely reinterprets and overturns the popular Hollywood view of the novel. But the main point Belefant makes is valid and well-supported: the "monster" was Victor Frankenstein himself doing all the misdeeds to prevent himself (Victor) from committing his own apparently worst nightmare, incest. The arguments for this and other aspects of the original (such as, could have Frankenstein's laboratory really existed?) are interesting as well as presenting an almost titillating, though realistic view into Mary Shelley's life and times.
