Louis The Fish
This book is about a man who is brought up surrounded by meat and he hated it. He would always get meat for his birthdays. Then he got a job cleaning out fish tanks at the doctor's office. He would spend hours looking at the fish. Then at the dinner table one day his Louis's mother said that he should get a job at the meat shop. So the next day after school Louis started working at the store. His father told him that one day the store would be his. His parents died shortly after. Louis spent his days working at the shop. He was so unhappy; his only time happy was when he would draw fish in the refrigerator. Then all the sudden Louis started to feel sick and then he started to see people as fish. One night he had an awful nightmare. He dreamed that he was attacked by meat. When he woke up he found out that he had turned into a fish. On his way to work Al who owned the pet store saw him and invited him to his store to stay in a tank. From that day on he lived happily ever after

Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion
I currently use this book as the text for a class I teach at California State University, Chico (Anthropology 40: Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion). I was fortunate enough to have taken this and other courses from the authors Arthur C. Lehmann and James E. Myers. This book serves as a good reader for comparative religions and focuses on non-western societies. Articles on western belief systems are used for comparison and contrasting with the non-western examples. Although targeted for the freshman level, the text assumes the reader have some understanding of anthropology.

Maker of Modern Japan: The Life of Tokugawa Ieyasu

Rare English account of Japan's feudal military history
Although Sadler's biography suffers from his somewhat disjointed writing style and uncritical admiration of his subject, it is a rare English-language account of the life of one of the most important figures in Japanese history. The book focuses on Ieyasu's military campaigns and the political intrigues of the Age of Warring States; thus, it also revolves around the stories of the other two 'Great Generals' of Japan, Nobunaga and Hideyoshi. Sadler goes into great detail in his accounts of individual battles and sieges, so it excels as a sourcebook for the student of Japanese military history. One shortcoming, however, is the book's tendency to refer to relatively obscure characters of the period without introduction or explanation, so a general history of Japan (perhaps George Sansom's three-volume set) is recommended as a companion. Despite its defects, this book will provide invaluable information to anyone interested in medieval Japan or the history of the samurai

Necessary Reading for Managers
A very diverse collection of interesting essays. I gobbled them all up. Edwin Locke, being my favorite, is a very captivating individual. I recommend doing a search for his name and checking out other works by Locke.

Washington Irving and Oklahoma
This book consists of a concise list and description of a variety of historic sites, markers and museums selected by the Oklahoma Historical Society as prime areas representative of the state's history. Full of side notes, this little book will be a welcome addition to the library of any dedicated Oklahomaphile.

A note that caught my attention (Harold Ross, the first editor of The New Yorker, once said that writers are very writer conscious) concerns Washington Irving. His trip to Oklahoma in 1932 is commemorated by two markers in the Sooner State. One marks his first campsite near old highway 66 in Arcadia. It was here that he hunted wild horses, and experience he recorded in his classic A TOUR ON THE PRAIRIES. The second marker is on US Highway 64, north of Bixby. The authors write, "Because of Irving's visit to the area, an attempt was made at the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention to call the Tulsa area "Irving" in his honor.

There's a handy map in the back of the book, clearly keyed, to help the reader locate quickly and easily points of interest.

A useful resource for healthcare professionals
A useful collection of the seminal journal articles which go beyond the articulation of theory to the actual bedside interaction between clinicians and patients. This is an especially useful resource for present and future clinicians, institutional ethics committee members, and those who teach ethics to healthcare professionals. It will occupy a prominent place on my bookshelf.

AN EXCELLENT SYNOPSIS OF WARFARE AND ITS SOCIETAL EFFECTS
_Men in Arms_ represents a unique work--in just under 400 pages of text, the authors have managed to produce a work which presents the reader or student with a fine overview of warfare from the Ancient Greeks to the advent of operations other than war in the late-1980s/early 1990s.

Naturally, in attempting to cover a subject so broad in such a relatively small amount of space, there are bound to be those who find fault with the work as it cannot hope to cover each of the periods in particularly great detail. To bemoan these shortcomings would be to lose sight of the book's intrinsic value to beginning students of warfare, as well as those endeavoring to study an unfamiliar period.

The division of the book into 22 logically divided chapters aids in this type of use, providing the reader with an understanding of the essential elements of war through the ages and its attendant effect on Western society as a whole. _Men in Arms_ is an excellent introductory text and--though the absence of footnotes was sorely felt by this reviewer--the bibliography, which is divided into subject areas by chronological sequence, will point the interested reader in the direction of other, more detailed texts.
