See how a Biblical-Theologian preaches.
This book allows you to hear Vos preach. His sermons serve as mini-commentaries on Scripture. He unfolds the Bible in ever surprising ways, and acts as a fine introduction into the works Meredith G. Kline.

Biblical Theology at its best
The apex of biblical theological preaching. Here is where a student of redemptive historical preaching should begin and return often in Vos' refreshing fountain of Christ in all the Scriptures

My Favorite Book
This book is my bible and I learn and understand more of the wisdom within everytime I pick it up. I have already given copies to two of my dearest friends. I am now buying a third copy to give to another. I recommend it to everyone who is a practising counsellor or psychotherapist.

Life Changing Book
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in compassionate, client-centered approaches to psychotherapy, whether as a client or practitioner. A remarkable contribution to the art of psychotherapy as well as a soothing and uplifting read. An interest in eastern spirituality is not necessary to enjoy and appreciate this work.

A book for all counselors in training
In using this book as an extra reading for a Counseling Strategies class, I found that the authors brought to life client-centered and gestalt philosophy and techniques. In addition, a number of students decided to seek counseling themselves to experience the process of unfolding and self-discovery. The best part of this book is the emphasis on the power and courage of the individual client and on the catalyzing and compassionate role of the therapist who guides the individual toward trusting his or her own process as he or she moves toward greater wholeness and healing.

The struggles of a Russian Jew
This is a case of Dialectic Materialism approached through a Nietzsche perspective, a woman as an idealist scholar with an extraordinary Jewish background whose brother suffers the loss of his life at the hands of Nazis! Simone Petrement, Simone Weil's biographer and classmate [Ecole Normale et al], clearly presents the defeating struggles with which Ms. Weil must but stealthily reveal! To say she deplored her Jewish background would be to deny her devotion to her parents which could not completely be. Her struggle is not her with Jewism itself but with the affliction of her father, Dr. Bernard Weil (1872-1955) and her mother, the daughter of Mme. Reinherz. Try the perils of the afflicted Russian Jew who no longer finds palatable the mere potatoes which she herself chose. She subtly [quietly]pleaded for her parents' assistance and then rejected their offers through her inner anxiety, a struggle to preserve Humanity amongst those who spoke Omniscient Salvation in other languages but offered moral support to Russian Jews who didn't appreciate the blasphemy of stating "Jesus Christ" over and over again! Thus is the subtle and controversial attitude.

They called her the Red Virgin
Simone Weil's writings were impenetrable for me in the fifties. Now I have most of her works and I am frequently amazed at how penetrating are her ideas and thoughts, and how contrary to most thinking today. That in itself recommends her. She understands people, life, and suffering, and sees its purpose. She sees through all falseness to the goodness. Simone Weil is the most honest person I know or have heard of. Yet while her classmate, Simone de Beauvoir is famous Simone Weil is relatively unknown. She loves Plato, Buddhism, Geometry, Jesus, working people, her homeland, France, but she rejected the Catholic Church, baptism, and Judaism (her background). She is a saint if there ever was one. I am profoundly grateful for having known something of her, her diamond mind, and her beautiful soul.

Mind-blowing aphorisms...
This young lady's writings and personal story blow away most other 20th Century thinkers. These are mainly short blasts. Provocative. Accessible. Yet push you further than you've likely been. Lots of ancient Christian desert hermit influence (St. Theresa, St. John of the Cross, Philokalia) on this revolutionary, radical mind. Timeless. Challenging. Simple. Confounds modernism.

Healing Grace: Finding a Freedom from the Performance Trap

It's About God's Grace
David Seamands helped me to strenghten my conviction that the Christian life is about Grace, not about following the Law. This is an excellent book for people who are caught in the spiritual trap of feeling guilty for not being able to perform as well as they would like. The author clearly shows how accepting God's Grace is part of the spiritual healing we receive through Jesus Christ.

Great for all readers
This book speaks great words of encouragement and wisdom for people at all places in their spiritual lives. It has words for those exploring Christianity, those having trouble living their new-found faith, as well as for those who are advanced in their faith and are looking to discover how to truly have peace and joy. I highly recommend this book.

Provides a roadmap to freedom from the bondage of shame.
With insight and wisdom, David Seamands identifies the root cause of the insecurity and ineffectiveness that plague many Christians. Tracing the problem to its source--the shame at the core of our being--Seamands reveals how people develop quasi-identities in a fruitless attempt to earn the unconditional love and acceptance they so desperately crave. He then provides practical steps to help us lay aside our masks, embrace our identity as God's beloved children and allow God's unconditional love and acceptance to transform us from the inside out.

wonderful story, end of great series
I read this book in the 60's, and loved it deeply then. It has held up well. I'd be hard pressed to say whether I like this book or _Dawn's Early Light_ (the first story in the series) best. It is probably best appreciated after reading the first book in the series. They form the bookends of a wonderful series about several intertwined families on both sides of the Atlantic from the American Revolution through World War II. The editions I read as a kid had family trees on the endpapers, and they were a great help.
_Homing_ recounts the story of Mab, a young girl, and her extended family, through the beginning of WW II. Although I am not a historian, I have not ever encountered a historical event in one of Ms. Thane's books that was contradicted by any history I have read. She makes history immediate and real by showing how characters you care about are affected by historical events. The history is background to the story; although it contributes significantly to the plot, I never felt I was being lectured. Characterizations ring true; I came to care deeply about the people in the story. There are ways in which this book, and the whole series, remind me of the books of Rosamunde Pilcher - the are populated by people I'd like to meet, coping with their lives.

a pleasant read for women of all ages, 18 to 80.
The last of the Williamsburg Series, Homing brings you full circle back to the past. The best way to read this book is after you have read the others, beginning with "Dawn's Early Light". I first read them when I was a teenager and I still read them every couple of years. The characters are like family or maybe the way we would like family to be.

A satisfying conclusion to the story of an extended family.
This is the conclusion to the Williamsburg Novels that begins with Dawn's Early Light. The characters continue to ring true and the historical view of both England and the US during the early days of WWII is great. The story truly comes full circle and makes you want to read them all again.

This Book is Priceless
Mr. Driebe has done beautiful creative work in his compilation of In Search of the Wild Indian. It is packed full of photographs and has enough history and information to provide the reader with a great understanding of the photographer's life work while instilling the desire to want to learn more about these native peoples. The subjects in the photos are uplifting, haunting and expressive. The energy in this book is amazing. I thank Mr. Driebe for this gift -- it is ageless and will continue to take top billing on my coffee table.

WORTH THE PRICE!!
Not often am I willing to spend this amount on a book; this one is worth the price. Excellent pictoral, and the details are just wonderful. Portrays Native Americans as no other work has; in detail and with respect!!

Beautifully done!
A BEAUTIFUL book and great addition to a home library. This book is about Carl and Grace Moon who had a special connection to the Indians of the southwest, however it is also about the wonderful Native people who inspired them. Many beautiful photos and very in-depth text! These people are still there, I have visited with them often. I hope this book will serve as a wonderful tribute to them.

It's Only a Flat Tire in the Rain: Navigating Life's Bumpy Roads with Faith and Grace
Published in Digital by Perigee ()
Author: Max Davis
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Faith and Grace are the key words
Ok so this isn't rocket science but the book is a valuable tool in an age when little things can wreak havoc in our lives. For some reason there is a bounty of small gems that I have found myself reading, and this is one. Just over 160 pages in length the lessons are common sense but well written. Nine chapters, from 1 When Life Happens 2.Beyond Understanding 3.Honest to God 4. Two Quarters of Grace 5. Nourishing the Soul 6. From Disappointment to Reappointment 7. All I. Need is a Miracle 8 Seven Power Tools for Changing Those Flat Tires In the Rain 9 Moving On.

The 7 Power Tools are #1 Though it may be messy, sometimes you have to step out into the rain and take control #2 We all need help now and then, maybe someone just to hold an umbrella or call the police #3 Stay calm, don't panic; things are rarely as bad as they seem #4 Dont forget to clean up #5 Stop under a sheltering tree or overhang #6 Enjoy the journey and #7 It's ok if your spare tire doesn't fit. This last one doesn't have to do with my car (laughing) but the idea that some of us have that we are supposed to be perfect. I especially appreciate the authors HONEST admission on page 109 about miracles and his statement "The plain truth is this: Miracles don't always happen. But sometimes they do." Trust me believing in miracles is hard for me since I have a hard enough time trusting that God will provide me with the wisdom and direction I need.

But the author is equally wise in sharing how miracles and blessing happen and how they happen rather often. Guess this is why I like the book. It is a combination of hope and common sense. It simply is a small book that is helping me a lot.

Overcome Your Challenges
If you or anyone you know are going through some challenging times, Max Davis' book is for you. Through simple, yet powerful, stories and metaphors, Max shows you how to navigate all of life's bumpy roads.

Buy it for yourself or give it to someone you love. I did. You'll be glad when you do.

You'll like this book!
I happened upon this book and have ordered 4 more to give to family members. Max Davis writes in a simply beautiful conversational style. I will reread it often. The last chapter is especially moving and I love the quote from Helen Keller (one of my favorites).

Keeping Promises
This book is great for teaching moral values through an interesting story. It keeps the reader particularly engrossed in the character detail as forces of good against evil combat one another on a level all too real. You will find Keeping Promises hard to put down.

Absolutely fantastic story for sharing the gospel!
This is a story of a family that is torn apart by infidelity. The characters jump to life on page one and will not let you leave their world until you are finished. An incredibly super Christian fiction that shares the gospel within its storyline. A great evangelical tool for you Christians who are not as easily able to share your faith but who would like to store up "treasures in Heaven" as Jesus advised us to do. This is a great book to recommend to someone having difficulties in their marriage. The characters are so believable, you'll think the book is really written about you with the names changed to "protect the guilty"!!!

What a BOOK!
I recommend this book for any person who has marital problems, and for those who don't!
This book has it all....
Spiritual Warfare, drama, shocking twists and turns, comedy, etc.
Will make you laugh, cry and will provoke all kinds of emotions.
You will feel like you personally know the characters.
And it gives a great outline of the gospel.
Get this book for all your friends for Christmas....
I give this book a TOTAL THUMBS UP!

Great book for the family
We received this book from some friends of ours. We keep it on the kitchen table and our kids take turns reading a prayer before dinner. It is a great alternative to saying the same prayer every night. This book has a great variety of prayers, for Holy days, feast days, as well as the traditional prayers. My daughter even found a prayer in there for Super Bowl Sunday!
This is a great resource for family prayer.

let's say grace
We have always said grace before our meals, but recently, when friends were over, we used the book. they say grace only on special holidays, but after hearing the prayer that evening, her son and daughter both asked for this book and want to use it every night. I'm purchasing several to give to newlyweds, new parents. One usually takes a gift, why not this book?

A wonderful addition to meal prayer time
My daughter received this book as a Christmas present this year. It has been by far the most used/appreciated gift of the year. This book has a grace for almost every special occasion...feast days, holy days , holidays and even special days like "when Grandparents visit". My girls (ages 10, 7 & 4)really look forward to using it with every meal.

Life, Love, And Other Mysteries-Book
I loved the book when I checked it out at our library. It had some good information about the girls and you felt you knew them better.

LIFE, LOVE AND OTHER MYSTERIES
THIS BOOK IS A GREAT BOOK TO READ. IT HAS STORIES ON LIFE, LOVE AND OTHER MYSTERIES THAT EVERY ONE GOES THROUGH AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO FEELS THAT THEY ARE OUT IN THE WORLD ALL BY THEIRSELVES AND THOSE WHO THINK THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS PROBLEMS LIKE YOU TO READ THIS BOOK BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS YOU BUT JUST LIKE YOU THEY ARE JUST AFRAID TO TELL ANYONE ELSE ABOUT THEM. THIS BOOK CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO KEEP GOING. JUST LIKE POINT OF GRACE SAID IN THEIR FIRST ALBUM CALLED POINT OF GRACE IN THE TOP SONG "WHEN IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE LOST IT ALL AND YOU HAVEN'T GOT A PRAYER; JESUS WILL STILL BE THERE.

GREAT STORY ABOUT LIFE !!!!!!!
THIS IS A GOOD BOOK AND I RECOMEND THAT YOU READ IT FOR SENSATIONAL SPIRITUALLY MOTIVATED TIME.
