THIS BOOK HAS SO MUCH GOING FOR IT!
My son loves this book. Even though he has had it for a few years and can read books that are more difficult he still enjoys this one. It's the story of a class that is planning to exchange pen-pal letters with an other school. But there is much more to the story . It teaches about learning to get to know someone before you prejudge them and how boys and girls can become friends. It also is about friends, bullies, and maintaining friendships out side of school with writing. It's a really great book. The art work is charming and my son thinks it's a scream! This would be a good book for either boys or girls. I feel it is also a good transition from books with only a few words per page to longer books. Even though there are 48 pages there are color pictures on everypage so it isn't intimidating. I think this would be a nice book as a gift before a child goes to sleep away camp because it talks both of making new friends and writing letters to stay in touch.

Personal recollections of Joam of Arc
This is my all time favorite. Even Mark Twain, in the books forward, claimed this to be his greatest achievement. The story flows, with vivid depictions which enable you to nearly live Joans' experiences, and at times brings tears to your eyes as you imagine and feel Gods hand guiding the young Joan of Arc. Trust me if you like inspirational stories like "The story of my life" by Helen Keller, you'll love this book. Read it, and share it with others!

The story of both Peter Stuyvesant and New Amsterdam
From the very start of this juvenile biography for the Colonial Leaders series, Joan Banks makes it clear that Dutch Military Leader Peter Stuyvesant's chief characteristic was stubbornness. Actually, this engaging book is as much about the New Netherlands colony of which "Stubborn Pete" was named governor as it is about the man himself. Stuyvesant, who had lost a leg in a battle, certainly tried to improve the colony in general and the city of New Amsterdam in particular. But Banks also makes it clear that Stuyvesant had his faults; he was quite autocratic and he wanted to ban all other religions besides his own. Banks tells how Stuyvesant protected the colony from Indians and captured New Sweden for the Dutch. In the end, however, he had to surrender to the English and New Amsterdam became New York City. This book is illustrated with historic paintings and drawings, only a few of which actual depict Stuyvesant, as well as some contemporary photographs of both New York and Holland. Peter Stuyvesant is usually mentioned in American History textbooks but this book goes into considerable more detail than what students and teachers would find there. Of course, this book is also of great value to young readers who are researching the early days of what is now New York City.

An Excellent book
The 30 lessons in the book were very entertaining and imaginative. This book is a great way to increase your word power, without the tedious task of learning it the "boring" way. The book also includes dozens of important roots, which are essential in increasing your word power. There are entertaining passages that illustrate each words meaning and usage, and quizzes that test your knowledge. I strongly recommend this book to anyone taking the SAT, it's very helpful, educational, and fun.

Pets, Vets, and Marty Howard Review
Pets, Vets, and Marty Howard

This book is about a boy named Marty Howard. In the beginning of the book, he gets a job at a veterinary clinic. He thought that was pretty good to have a paying job that he liked at only 12 years old. He sees some interesting things while he is there. Spaying, neutering, castrating, and delivering animal babies are just some of the things he gets to help with as well as watch.

One day someone dropped off an expensive guinea pig at the front desk and said his family didn't want him anymore. Marty came to the rescue and took it home. He didn't know what his mother would say, but after some coaxing, she gave in. He gave it to his brother, Nick. Nick named it Gooney.

They also found some puppies, which Marty took home also. He never told his parents about this, though. He ended up putting them in a department store window, and feeding and watering them every day until people took them.

This was a very interesting book, and I recommend it to anyone who likes pets and animals.

A thoroughly "user friendly" compendium
Pick-A-Pattern Applique & Variations by needlecraft expert Joan Waldman is a thoroughly "user friendly" compendium of pattens, settings, and techniques for personally designing a quilt which will reflect individual stye by changing the blocks in a setting and employing different techniques to stitch or paint the blocks. Pick-A-Pattern Applique & Variations shows that by mixing or matching the pattern pieces, anyone can create a virtually unique, one-of-a-kind quilt with its own distinctive "personality" -- especially when coupled with different methods of hand or machine applique, embroidery, redwork, paint, stencils, or trapunto. With its fifty beautifully designed blocks inspired by 18th and 19th century album quilts, Pick-A-Pattern Applique & Variations is a simply wonderful addition to any dedicated quilter's reference collection.

Great Cookbook for all occassions
I've owned this cookbook for over 20 years and I love it. Great recipes to use casually or formally. Some of my favorites: Haricot's potato salad which includes green beans and a dressing with mayo and sour cream, the best lemon bars, Hildegard's meatloaf which uses ground potato instead of bread, Grand Marnier cake which is light and sinful. And more.

My copy is a mess from use. I logged on to buy another.

Only drawback: rear recipe index isn't too ingredient friendly, mainly a titles listing.
