Balloon Galloon wins the day
While celebrating a special occasion eating in a nice restaurant near Seattle, my 4-year-old was devastated when his celebration balloon drifted up to the high ceiling. I picked up the "Balloon Galloon" as his bedtime story that evening, not knowing it told of this creature which eats the balloons lost by children all over the world. No book could have fit the occasion better, and several days after that my grandson would mention the hero of the story and want reassured that there really isn't such a creature as the Balloon Galloon. It's a book children will enjoy and remember.
Be a Woman: Hayashi Fumiko and Modern Japanese Women's Literature
Published in Paperback by University of Hawaii Press (November, 1997)
Amazon base price: $24.00
Average review score:
Masterful review of concept of "women's literature" in Japan
A magnificent survey and original interpretation of the concept of "women's literature" in modern Japan, demonstrating its significance in the life and work of twentieth-century Japan's most important woman writer, Hayashi Fumiko (1903-51).
Utilizing an impressive array of Japanese sources, Ericson interprets the crystallization in the 1920s of the category "women's literature" by considering both literary aesthetics and the social dynamics of authorship.
Two translations of Hayashi's work -- Diary of a Vagabond, and Narcissus -- demonstrates its originality and power, rooted in the clarity and immediacy with which Hayashi is able to convey the humanity of those occupying the underside of Japanese society.

I am the author of this book. who is Joan B. Klope?
This book was written in the late 70's because of the problems pastors were having in regards to exemption and non-profit status. It met with good success but has been out of print for a number of years.

Exceptional Resource for Ballet Students & Parents
My daughter is in her 4th year of ballet with a superb instructor, originally from England, who teaches the Royal Academy of Dancing method. Reading this book satisfied a hunger for detailed information stemming from the plethura of questions that I have had regarding my daughter's training through the years. It covers basics on everything from detailed costume/uniform tips & instructions, to being a superb treatise on technique, vocabulary and practice in class. The book is illustrated with incredible line drawings of technique which better equip me to help my daughter fine-tune her skills (learned in class) at home. The introduction by Joan Lawson is not only educational, but inspiring. This is a MUST HAVE BOOK for any dancer and his/her parents and I am grateful to my daughter's instructor for turning us on to it. My only regret about this book is that we did not find it sooner!

I purchased the five volume Excellence in Singing set, and they work wonderfully altogether! This first book is perfect when beginning to learn about the fundamentals of singing and the different issues within your voice. It's a great book to start out with.
