Rose Trelawney
I loved this novel. The characters are well-drawn, funny, interesting and mysterious. The fact that the main character suffers from amnesia at the beginning of the story could have been overplayed very easily. Instead, you believe her amnesia, you believe the family's reaction to this stranger in their midst. The clues to the real identity of "Rose Trelawney" don't appear, they are uncovered step-by-step by good detective work. Joan Smith has gone on to write modern mysteries, but I have to say that I enjoy her regency mystery/romances like this one very much.

Standard Sacred Songs in New Comfortable Keys
I purchased the Low Voice edition and was delighted to see many of my favorites in comfortable keys for bass-baritones and altos. For example, well-known Ave Maria by Bach-Gounod is in C and Shubert's Ave Maria is in F. I have sung many of the songs included over the years often in keys too high for my voice. It is also convenient to have all of those songs in one place. The compiler clearly knows about singers and has published many other books (Broadway, Christmas, First/Second Solos, etc.) helpful to all types of solo voices.

Good kids' intro
A very nice overview of Joan of Arc primarily for middle school students, though younger and older could probably read it, too. It makes clear how awesome Joan was, while keeping her very human. Well illustrated and easy to read, with references. A good introduction.

Joan's true story without any ideological trimmings
This exciting biography manages to bring to life the mood of 14th Century France and to give a vivid portrait of "the Maid" from contemporary accounts, which are always clearly credited.

Beevers achieves this without missing the point of Joan's canonisation, so often misconstrued as being due to patriotism or even to some kind of early feminist or anti-establishment streak, with which some always try to retrospectively credit her.

After a simple account of what we know of her family life, and riveting detail in the battles and her attempts to reach the Dauphin, Beevers gives an accurate and crystal-clear historical summary of her trials, including much excellent background on the personalities involved.

This book makes a wonderful spiritual and historical gift for a teenager, and is scholarly, highly readable and inspiring. It is the perfect choice for those who seek Joan's true story without any ideological trimmings.

Bored? Spice it Up!
A friend purchased this cookbook for me several years ago. It's given our family years of inventive, spicy Saturday and Sunday dinners!

While I have prepared many recipes from this cookbook, our favorites continue to be "Grilled Tuna with Honey Apricot Chipotle Glaze" and the "Honey Chipotle Chicken".

This cookbook has been tough to locate where I live -- I've purchased three for friends!
