We have just been introduced to this author by a friend and can hardly wait to read her next book. She is the most up and coming children's writer we have seen in a while. And we just love the pictures, the stories, the everything....this will probably be our new favorite Christmas present to give.

I read this book to my Grandchildren (ages 3 and 5) five times in a row. They loved it. Miles shows that you can make mistakes, but in the end he finally gets it right. The illustrations have bounce and zip.

Silly, fun and happy read. Lots of bright and detailed illustrations. I found it on the American Book Sellers Association Kids Pick of the List for Spring 2001.

We were certainly able to relate to Miles Away from Home. We have a Golden Retriever and our family is just like Miles' family. Avila our dog, is always getting into trouble, too!! We love her just like we've become attached to Miles.

This is a well-written, important book that addresses an issue that is often discussed but rarely truly understood. While the scholarship is impressive, the authors work their way through case studies and examples so well that the reader is drawn in and engaged in their arguments on an almost experiential level. Their powerful insights on moral aspects of modern education stand in stark contrast to the platitudes we hear from politicians and policymakers. Now if only we could get our leaders to read the book...

Character education has received a good deal of national attention during the most recent presidential campaign. Two professors from the University of Pennsylvania - Joan Goodman, a professor of education, and Howard Lesnick, a law professor, have teamed up to write a useful, thought-provoking book about moral education which brings even more attention to this crucial issue.

Each chapter contains three parts: "at school," where several teachers, with different political beliefs and different experience levels discuss issues that arise within their classroom; "at the university," where theories related to that issue are discussed; and "at the library," which includes excerpts from other works on character education and resources.

Overall I think the book would be an excellent resource for teachers, social workers, and anyone who works with children at a professional level. It can be read individually or provide an excellent jumping-off point for discussions of these crucial issues within schools.

Within "Moral Stake," the important issues of moral education are discussed in an academic, captivating, and sincere manner. The most appealing asset of the book is that each chapter is divided into three separate sections: the first, an easy-to-read story section that weaves the chapter's topic into the ongoings of a fictional school, second, a section with the authors' perspectives and analysis of the topic, and finally, a section including relevant exerpts from primary researchers and thinkers in the field. These three levels of analysis allow the reader ample opportunity to evaluate and examine the underlying questions facing moral education in today's schools, making this book an invaluable resource for all educators. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and studying from this book, and highly recommend it.

This mystery is a lot of fun for anyone interested in the world behind the scenes of amateur ice skating. Finding a dead body on the ice wasn't a great way for Berrien Gamble to start her day, and further complicates her already crunched schedule preparing for the first ice show at her rink, N'ice Skates. Unique characters and beautiful scenery round out this debut novel. It has great insight on the early stages of a skater's trek to the championships we enjoy on television. The plot is slippery as ice with a bang-up last chapter.

This book is one of the better "how-to" bools I have ever seen. It is a book that belongs in any artists library, beginners, advanced, rosemalers or carvers. I own one and have used some as gifts. You learn about brushes, and how and when to use them. You learn about paint, and how to mix them. And a big plus, you can even learn some norwegian; it is written in both eng. and norw.

The author gives the best instruction of any book teaching art that I have ever encountered. She gives the formula for mixing colors and complete instruction for painting these cute trolls. Even a beginner like me can understand and paint from this book.

I can recommend this book to any intermediate painters who would like to try their hand at Trolls or Rosemaling. There are 17 individual designs, some with rosemaling borders. The text is in English and Norwegian. Beautigfully illustrated and a joy to read.

The recipes of Noteworthy have made their way into my family's collection of favorites. I trust this cookbook so much that I make untried dishes on special occasions. Noteworthy has not let me down!

I own both Noteworthy and Noteworthy II, recipes from the Ravinia festival and I cannot say enough about them. For nearly eight years now, I have used these cookbooks for every family gathering, cocktail party and family meal. My love of cooking was stimulated by the recipes provided in these books which are both easy to follow and delicious. I have not yet found one recipe I didn't enjoy after preparation. Noteworthy is well organized and has sections of great photographs to entice you to select one of it's great dishes. You will dazzle your guests with the wonderful combinations and not feel like you had to try to hard. These books are among my favorite possessions, I'd be lost without them. You'll not be disappointed...ENJOY!

This cookbook is a marvel--it is far and away my favorite cookbook. I turn to it for every event, and it contains all my family's favorite dishes. One note, however, follow the recipies closely! Omitting or changing any ingredient really alters things substantially (I don't like olives and left them out of a dish and it truly sufferred for it. When I made it again, I added the olives and it is now a favorite!) This book is an excellent gift idea.

This is a wonderful book about a family living and enjoying the natural world around them. I envy them. For a while, a person can escape their hectic, city living,and enjoy the life the author is sharing with us. I highly recommend it!

The gorgeous imagery of the West is what makes this so incredibly amazing. There are lightning storms, hail, floods, fires, grizzly bears, guns--even murder and intrigue. Who knew there was so much going on in Montana? I highly recommend this beautifully written book.

This is a must book for every reader that loves wildlife and nature. I felt like I was visiting an old friend by the way it is written. The way some of the wildlife are described gives the feeling of a personel relationship with them, such as the grizzly crippled by a gunshot.

The descriptions of what it is like to live in such a place could be right out of our country's past years ago.

The author does an excellent job of expressing her feelings about the natural world that surrounded her in this unusual place...a place so few have visited but so many dream about.

The way she described how the scientist conduct their field research to monitor the grizzly, wolf, mountain lion, and coyote gives us a view into their scientific world, but on a personal point of view with some very humorous stories.

If you've never been to a semi-remote place surrounded by beautiful mountains, variety of wildlife, or interesting people, buy this book and it will take you there.

This excellent book is called "The Only Way to Learn Astrology: Horoscope Analysis," but the bulk of it focuses on one facet of horoscope analysis, house rulers. If you're looking for a either a beginners guide on how to interpret a chart, or an all-around horoscope analysis guide that blending many elements of chart interpretation such as planetary patterns and aspects, you'll probably be disappointed. However, if you have a basic understanding of the planets and houses, and you're looking for one of the best guides around on house rulerships, this is the book for you! The first half of the book (Part I) is devoted to house rulerships.

What is a house rulership? Example: Marilyn Monroe had Leo (ruled by the sun) on the ascendant. Marilyn's sun was in her 10th house. The reader can go to lesson 1, First House Rulers," look up "Ruler of the 1st in the 10th" and find out what this means. Marilyn Monroe had Virgo (ruled by Mercury) on her 2nd house cusp, and Mercury in her 10th house. The explanation is in lesson 2, "Second House rulers" under "Ruler of the 2nd in the 10th." Volume 3 of "The Only Way..." series helps one go around the wheel, house by house, figuring out what it means to have that house's ruler in each of the houses. The best way to learn from this book is to begin with one's own chart (and then loved ones) and read the introduction to that house, determine where the ruler is, and then try to figure out what the house rulership means before reading the description. Each of the 144 rulership patterns is well explained and uses an example of a famous (or infamous) person-everyone from Mohandas Gandhi to Charles Manson, that really helps emphasize the point.

Part II, "The Art of Chart Interpretation" provides detailed chart interpretations of four famous people (charts provided in this volume): General George Patton, Ernest Hemingway, Princess Diana of Wales, and Barbra Streisand. In this section, March and McEvers throw all their fancy stuff at you yods, dwads, decantes, part of increase, and the like. While there's benefit in reading how two skilled astrologers interpret a chart start to finish, this section is of limited "teach you how to do it for yourself" value, for which I recommend the first volume of the series. Rulerships are discussed quite a bit in this section, so it provides a review.

Part III, "Delineating for a Purpose" is an interesting discussion of astrological associations with health/illness, physical appearance, relationships of many sorts (preview of coming attractions for volume 5), and vocational aptitudes. Each of these chapters is a well-explained, good introduction to the topic, but not a complete treatment. Unlike the house rulership information, I've seen much of this information elsewhere.

I primarily use and recommend this book as a guide to house rulerships-the best I've seen. However, as this book, written in 1982, and the series age, chances are that younger astrologers will not identify with the famous people given as examples, as much as the babyboomers of my generation. I like the fact that when they refer to a chart in this volume, they provide the page number. However, some of the chart discussions will refer you to charts in other volumes in the series. Despite a detailed table of contents, the book lacks an index. I'm giving the book 5 stars, primarily based on the strengths of sections 1 and 3.

I appologize but I forgot the add the point that this book is compltely useless unless you have a previous knowlege of astrology. This book is the third in a teaching series so if you have little of no background in astrology, read a beginner level book first. You could read the first two in the series if you want the max benefit of this book.

A well written book about the interpretation of natal astrology. The first part talks about the houses and their rulers which in my opinion is the most important step in analyzing a natal chart. Then the next part is several charts of famous people and celebrities including Marilyn Monroe and Ernest Hemmingway. Each chart in this part is analyzed with a different method. The third part is how to look for specific things in a chart. Included are such features as: Relationships, Physical Appearance, Health, and Career. Make sure you have a good undrstanding of the basics of Astrology before this book. Blessed be

This book is utilized as a standard reference guide within our PL/I programming group. It doubles as a training reference for new PL/I programmers and as a general desk reference for programmers with more advanced PL/I programming skills. The overall content is well organized and easy to use.

Ashame something corresponding to Hughes book hasn't been written for Cobol (Stern & Stern is wordy and long in comparison). Robin Vowel's book compliments Hughe's book for a variety of algorithms and none-MVS platforms (emphasizing certain PL/I facilities well).

I needed a reference manual for PL/I and decided to go for this book. It is very good if you are new to the language or are trying to remember what a particular function does. It even has separate sections at the back of the book for ASCII and EBCDIC tables, how the different PL/I data formats are stored in records, and a good summary at the back showing which functions are supported by the various PL/I compilers and subsets. It is not a the cheapest (hardback) book on PL/I but is well worth the investment.

This book explains different prayers and why we say them, such as Jesus appeared to St. Faustina and gave her certain promises attached to the Divine Mercy. But there are many more like this that are linked to specific apparitions to specific saints which is why I like it so much. It helps give purpose and meaning to the prayers we choose to say. And if there is any special intention you have, such as someone who recently died, there are special things in it for that. I used it in my class when I taught religion to help make spiritual life have more meaning to my class. Definitely a must-have!

This little book is a wonderful resource for simple thoughts and actions given from the Lord and others in heaven to the saints which increases your connection with Christ and prayer life immensely. I've found this little and quick book incredibly helpful in my spiritual journey.

This is wonderful book for an intermediate to advanced quilter who wants to create impressive landscape quilts that are true works of art.

First the basic method is demonstrated in detail including many illustrations. The main technique used to make the quilts is string piecing. Six beautiful projects follow. Patterns for each are found in the back.

The book places a lot of emphasis on embellishment. Textured yarns, metallic threads, and fusible web as well as organzas & tuttle overlays help to decorate the quilts. Fabric painting and pieced applique are also used.

As both a paper crafter and a quilter I also found this book a great inspiration for making collages. The tips on color & selecting a scene were very helpful. The large gallery in the middle is worth the price of the book alone.

What a great book to stretch you creativity. It goes beyond traditional quilting and inspires you with techniques you wouldn't normally think of using. Great book

When I first saw this book, I was thrilled. As I first flipped through the numerous colored photographs of quilts (submitted from students in the author's classes), I became inspired after many "dry" months. Just looking at the photos of the different landscape quilts keeps me busy for quite a while. They are very colorful and exciting.

On the other hand, the text makes great reading. The author is more into the artistic side of quilting, which allows for less technical perfection. I like that.

Using pre-sewn strips of fabric cut into pieces which are then pieced together, very interesting skies and scenery are created. The method is efficient and neat. Fabric weaving is another of many facets of this interesting book.

This book contains many different techniques on adding details to your quilts from frayed rough fabric (grasses and bushes) to chopped up fabric pieces held into place with tulle.

Detailed instructions are included with many Artist's Tips. I found these especially helpful.

The illustrations are very clear and helpful and the overall tone of the book is encouraging and inspirational. I feel as if the author is indeed with me as a teacher in a personal class.

I fell in love with this book when I saw it and although I was overwhelmed with the pictures at first, after reading it, I am anxious to start creating my fabric world as soon as I can.

If you are looking for something a little different than usual quilting books that allows for great creativity to express yourself, this book is for you!
