Gotta love these sheep!
In this story the ever-lovable Boo and Baa are going to a birthday party. They are all dressed up, and prepare by wrapping the gift (trickier than you might think, resort to Plan B), and practicing dancing (not danger-free!). The simple story is on a level that quite young children can identify with, and it offers plenty of conversation material. The illustations are full of humour, while clean and simple for little ones to understand. A perfect series for the little ones in your life!

The Boo anb Baa Series is fantastic!
My son loves this book. He is two and requests it nightly! Boo and Baa are great characters that make him laugh aloud. When Boo gets dizzy from dancing and falls the the floor the facial expressions are priceless. The concept of a sheep birthday party is unique. Entertaining while educational in a subtle way. I highly recommend the entire series.

A Border Collie owners must- read
This book is the most acurate, informative book on Border Collies Ive ever seen and as I own Border Collies I find it excellent.
It tells you all you need to know from how to train/feed/raise a puppy, to breeding a litter of your own, how to show a Border Collie, Genetics, explaining everything in a clear easy to understand way.
I frequently delve into to my copy if I need to find something specific or just to go over a part again. I recommend it very highly to anyone who owns a Border Collie as you will enjoy it over and over again.
The author is speaking from many years experience and is very down to earth.

One of the Best!
This is a very concise and informative book about a wonderful breed of dog, the Border Collie. From basic obedience training to breeding and genetics, there is everything you need to know. Excellent information for raising a puppy and a guide on stages of development. I bought this book when I became the proud owner of my first pedigree Border Collie and found it invaluable. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about this breed. Many thanks to Joan Bray for sharing her knowledge with the world.

Comments from Peter Skaife, President of Heroic Living, Inc.
This is a must read book for anybody starting a business or even thinking about starting a business! Joan Hartley delivers what she promises. Her book is a basic toolkit that will help every business owner.

We all know that every business is only as strong as its weakest link. This book can help you prevent disaster and ensure success by helping you take a very clear and concise look at the essential activities in starting or developing a business.

This book is written in simple language, yet the content is not simplified, as one would expect from a book with this ambitious a title. The author has successfully create a book that is basic, practical and precise.

I will give this book to every friend I know who is starting a new business activity!

This book can decrease your business frustration BIG TIME!
One strength of this book is how it helps you evaluate whether "doing" your own business is right for you. If it ISN'T for you, you have saved yourself way more than the price of the book by knowing not to start!

If "doing" your own business IS for you, this book provides a systematic path to identifying your core values in a way that will enable you to integrate them into a mission statement and business plan.

I saw this book while at a book signing by the author and was impressed with how "down to earth" her advice was to people chatting with her. I really like the way she approaches both task management and time management. She helps the reader define tasks clearly, in increments small enough to easily track progress without getting mired down by any single task.

Her approach definitely encourages a potential business builder to stay on track and motivated, and her anecdotal inclusions illustrate material in a way that helps it "stick"!

In retrospect, I see that this book covers a lot of ground in addressing the many areas in which the reader needs clear direction to develop and build a business. BUT it does not DWELL on details that could get in the way of the basics. (Maybe the author could write a sequel for those who use this book as a stepping stone to success!)

Anyway, I especially liked that there is a lot of basic information but in the context of integrating values, vision, and vitality (Ooh!--maybe I should be a writer!) I recommend it to ANYONE thinking about starting business. It can definitely decrease your frustration while increasing your enjoyment of business life!

Caesar's Story 1759: Young Americans Colonial Williamsburg (000Ng Americans: Colonial Williamsburg)

What a great addition to the Young Americans series!
Nixon provides wonderful insight into the time period through the eyes of a young slave, Caesar. The prologue sets the mood for the story to be told by an experienced storyteller and once the tale begins, the reader will have a hard time putting it down. Caesar brings the reader into his world. The frustration of slavery is so palpable the reader will feel Caesar's yearning. He is reminded repeatedly that a slave has no control over his future. His sister is moved to the big house to serve as a personal servant and his father is sent to Williamburg to work as a carpenter. With his family torn apart, Caesar is then told he has been chosen to become a personal servant as well. After spending his early years playing with the master's son, Nat, Caesar has a difficult time adjusting to his life as a personal servant to the same boy who was once his best friend. The one thing he discovers is that he may not have his freedom but he will always have spirit.

Slavery's scars, without sentimentality.
This, the second in the Colonial Williamsburg Young Americans series, is the story of a slave boy who moves from Carter's Grove Plantation to Williamsburg when his young master attends the grammar school at the College of William and Mary. This brief tale of mid-seventeenth life is fast-paced and full of action, while yet vibrantly aware of the emotional turmoil suffered by all parties to the blight that was slavery. Nixon, a prolific and talented children's novelist, never allows her writing to dwindle into maudlin political correctness or weep sentimentality. This is a highly recommended book not just for the young readers for which it is intended, but anyone who appreciates a good historical read. Reading this just prior to a visit to Colonial Williamsburg would be a treat indeed.

Delicious Factual Grab Bag
This is a book out of which almost anyone will get a kick. It'sfilled with facts you never knew about children who, of course, becomeadults. There's all sorts of interesting information about famous people (Stevie Wonder etc. etc.) when they were children. There's fascinating stuff about multiple births (the most births to one woman, highest number of surviving births and the like). One of the best aspects is that you can open it at any page and read something interesting, which makes it great to leave lying around for picking up any time. It's obviously a great gift for expectant mothers, graduations (moving on to new phases in life) and other special occasions. This is the kind of book that makes you feel good about life altogether. It's fascinating.

Very amusing unusual information anyone would find enjoyable
This book has a lot of funny, surprising information you wouldn't expect as well as facts. Great tidbits include statistics on the most births to one woman, information about twins, triplets, quintuplets, even sextuplets. It sparks your imagination. It makes a great gift. You can dip in at any point and have fun. It's jam-packed with interesting minutiae and you can learn about many famous people when they were kids. It's easy to read but filled with useful info. You can't not like it.

Clara's Story
This is one of the best books I have ever read.I would recomend this book to anyone interested about the holocaust. She is a very courageous person and she keeps you in suspense the entire time.

excellent story written about the holocaust
This story was very interesting in how the writer was never in a concentration camp, but how many different places she lived and the different hardships she had to face. I recommend this book to everyone.

Loads of fun, filled with classics and new poems alike
My sister gave this super book to my son for Christmas several years ago, and it has ever after occupied a place of honor on his bookshelf. We pull it down occasionally and still giggle all over the place at some of these goofy poems--beautifully enhanced by Joan Gallup's equally goofy illustrations.

In addition to poets I already knew, like Jack Prelutsky, Ogden Nash, Lewis Carroll, and Laura E. Richards, there were lots of wonderful pieces by poets I'd never heard of before. There are limericks, riddling poems, and poems about such sometimes-serious subjects as church, dentures, and falling in love. No subject is sacred here--everything is given up for the cause of good humor.

Lots of fun for everyone, and a wonderful example for children to see that poetry doesn't have to a) always rhyme or b) be about serious or lofty things.

The Classic Treasury of Silly Poetry
I really enjoyed this book. I have found many uses for the silly poetry. I used it in my fourth grade class, and the kids really wanted to memorize some of the poems. The pictures are great. It makes you want to come up with your own poems.

Closely Akin to Murder: A Claire Malloy Mystery

Refreshing change of scenery
This is probably my favorite of the Claire Malloy mysteries because here Joan Hess breaks away from the formula that most of the previous books have followed. Claire is away from the bookstore in Faberville (Acapulco no less) and the usual cast of characters/relationships there (although Caron is along and Peter checks in by phone).

The change of scenery and the unavailability to fall back completely on what has worked in the past seems to have inspired Hess to pen a better written mystery, while retaining all of the humorous touches that distinguish her earlier work. Unfortunatly, this book was a one-off experiment and later installments return Malloy to the predictable but enjoyable confines of Faberville. One only hopes that Hess will someday once again be daring and make another left turn that will breath new life into this fine series.

Claire and Caron go south of the border, down Mexico way. .
Presumed-dead cousin Veronica calls Claire from Chicago to ask her to unmask the blackmailer who won't let her forget that she murdered a Hollywood producer thirty years ago. Never mind that she did the time for doing the crime--she's built a new life for herself and doesn't want this stain on her reputation. Off go Claire and Caron to Acapulco--but unlike Elvis, they don't have "fun" there. Unless you call getting arrested by the Mexican police (Claire) and kidnapped by some greasy bum (Caron) fun. As Caron would say, Claire simply Asks for Trouble everywhere from Mexico to a convent (!) in Phoenix to her cousin's elegant digs in Chicago. You'll find Claire joining the jet set, Caron's anguish over Yet Another Major Crisis involving Rhonda MacGuire, Farberville High's Queen Bee, and more delightful flirtation between Claire and handsome cop Peter Rosen, in Joan Hess' latest. Have fun. .
