An excellent book for dollhouse fans of all ages.
It is a real shame that this book is out of print and no longer available. I searched for this book for 15 years or longer. I finally found it by describing it on the internet. (I didnt remember the authors name or book name, just pictures and things to make in the book.) By some luck, someone had a copy in almost excellent condition. This was THE book that I based every other dollhouse book on, and they couldnt compare. The people to make in this book always fascinated me as a child and I longed to fill my dollhouse with the family and their furnishings. This book should be reprinted and used as the standard for all dollhouse books! If you find a copy of this book, it is worth the price you'll pay to add to your dollhouse collection.

A classic how-to book of miniatures
This book would be a pleasure for anyone interested in doll houses. There is a charming story by the author about how her interest in all things miniature started. The pictures are inspirational. The best part of the book are the full size directions to make everything pictured. There are enough projects to fill an entire mini house and to make the family also. Everything can be made from things around the house or very inexpensive supplies. I have made all the people and some of the furniture and accessories with fantastic results. This book is perfect for the beginning through advanced hobbiest. It's really a shame that it is out of print.

A good companion to Sutherland's autobiography
After having read Sutherland's autobiography some time ago, I wasn't sure whether or not it was worth it to read Norma Major's book. Thankfully, there are enough anecdotes to set it apart from Sutherland's own account of her stratospheric career. Norma Major depicts, at the beginning, an awkward, ungainly Sutherland, in a manner that is almost embarrassing, but brutally honest. She also draws more parallels between Sutherland's career and that of Maria Callas. Sutherland only touched on the subject in her own book when she recalled being angry at a conductor who inferred that Callas was more disciplined at rehersal than she was (to which Sutherland retorted, "and look what happened to her!"). Major dwells on the topic a little more, giving her reader the idea of the karma that both of these great sopranos created for themselves.

Norma Major also, towards the end of the book, painstakingly recounts the tensions between Richard and Joan, and the Australian Opera. Although it's been some time since I've read Prima Donna's Progress, it seems that Joan Sutherland glossed over this subject.

In short, Sutherland's legendary rise to fame and operatic glory is certainly worthy of at least two accounts. Futhermore, as Sutherland was not a great "interpreter" of her roles, she also was not that great at analyzing her own career. Major goes beyond a simple listing of the many Normas and Lucias sung.

a good biography by a real fan
Norma Major is evidently a great fan of La Stupenda and it shows in the painstaking care she took, writing and researching this book.

I found this to be a fascinating read, informative and yet entertaining . I really enjoyed it and the illustrations were lovely. A job well done.

Far and Away the Best Book on Meditation I've Read
I've been meditating for more than thirty years and have read a ton of books on meditation. This book is at the top of my list.

Simple, clear, and down to earth, "The Joy Within" is far and away the best book on meditation I've ever read.

To quote the authors:

"The goal of meditation is to reach the thought-free place within. When we're able to reach this place of inner silence, our joy expands because there's nothing to stop it--no concepts, no worries, no fears.

"When your thoughts don't get in the way, your inner joy wells up inside giving you an incredible feeling of wholeness and happiness."

That's meditation in a nutshell.

If you're at all interested in learning how to meditate, GET THIS BOOK!

Best Beginner's Book on Meditation I've Ever Read
After purchasing numerous how-to meditation books (none of which inspired me particularly), this small book is the one that finally got me going. It's a very simple, hands-on book presenting a step-by-step, four-week program for gradually incorporating meditation into your life. Week one requests that you devote 15 minutes to meditation and presents a meditative exercise for each day. This method continues week after week. By the time you're at week four, you've progressed to 30 minutes of meditation.

Unlike many meditation books, there's a casual, easygoing quality to this book -- nothing esoteric or heavy. Short, simple meditation exercises are peppered throughout this inspiring yet practical book. Thanks to the authors, I had numerous opportunities to see which forms of meditation were the most compatible for my personality. I discovered I do better with tactile or visual focusing than I do with mantras or breathing. Though the end result is the same (quieting the mind), it helps to have a form of meditation that inspires you!

A well worth read for anyone on a journey of self discovery
This book was introduced to me as I browsed the shelves of a neighborhood bookstore. It has since become a permanent part of my collection as well as a monthly refresher in my pursuit to not only better understand myself, but more effectively utilize my personal strengths.

As a teacher, I am often pressed to recommend not only good writing, but inspiring text. I am happy to report this book accomplishes both. If it doesn't improve your self-imagine and renew your faith in your personal strengths and abilities, you're holding it upside down.

One of the most meaningful books I've read on Astrology.
Karma and Your Sun Sign was recommended to me by a friend. It has helped me to understand myself and my reasons for being on earth more than any self-help or psychology book ever has. Ms. Kilgen seems to truly understand the down-to-earth use of astrology and the meaning of Karma. You must read it.

I found it difficult to put this book down.
I am not 13; I'm 60. However, the server will only take my comments in this section of the web site, and this book is too good not to share.Usually I read 5 or 6 books simultaneously - a few pages to put myself to sleep on any given night. However, once I began Kreka, I read it nearly straight through, only interrupting myself to carry on a busy life.I highly recommend it - both for the brillance of the writing and for the wonderfully rich and different perspective on the historical events of this era.

Entering Attila's World
Our ideas about history begin with those first lessons in school replete with dates of battles, births, and political events. It falls to an imaginative writer to give voices and faces to personalities who lived long ago and to give us the chance of a re-evaluation of them. Mention of Attila the Hun invariably conjures up a brutal image in the popular mind, but if we approach his life and times from the present we move backwards and arrive with too much contemporary baggage to see him clearly. Joan Silva has spent many years stripping the layers of inappropriate packaging from Attila and given us a healthily restored version. Acknowledging the inherent violence of Attila's age, the author looks for his personal qualities in a way that befits a warrior as well as a man with loves and a family. Kreka, wife of Attila, receives her due attention in this book as a woman with strength and insight. The political maneuvering in the novel helps us understand the participants as being more than the sword-swinging aggressors the Barbarians are often shown to have been. I was drawn in as the book progressed and found it ultimately very moving.

A tale of love and destiny
'No-one escapes the dungeons of Aquila...'
But Phillipe Gaston did. The young thief they called Phillipe The Mouse escaped through the cracks where the rats couldn't run.

Running for his life and pursued by the Bishop's guards, he is saves by the sword-arm of the dark rider on the great black horse...

Who is this fearsome warrior, silhoutted against the darkening skyline with the strange and beautiful hunting hawke on his arm and why does he so fear the black fall of night?

Together they must journey towards a day of destiny, a day without light and a night without darkness, when the Bishop of Aquila must face the lovers he cursed with his hatred and jealousy so that the Evil one can claim his own...

To read this book is to enter the enchanting love story of Isabeau and Navarre and their friendship with Phillipe.

Great book!
I thought this book was very true to the movie. There are some parts that were not in the movie, but it is very well written. It is about a curse which plagues two lovers. The stoic Navarre and the beautiful Isabeau were two people in love when the Bishop cursed them. This book touches me just as much as the movie does. If you love the movie as much as I do, then definitely look for this book. I know it is hard to find, but is well worth it!

Great for all ages.
This book was selected for use by the Lake Saint Louis Youth Sailing Academy after our lead instructor and our top student (age 10) both selected the same book from a group of 10 potential class text books. The kids found it easy to follow, and the adults found it easy to establish a lesson plan based on the structure of the book.

The perfect place to start.
Never mind the reviews that claim this is the best book for young sailors just starting out. At 40 and in my first boat in 20 years, it is the perfect match. Every thing I need to get my feet wet without having to read volumes of nautical tactics. The illustrations are every bit as valuable, making the whole adventure a lot less overwelming. Thinking about getting your first boat, but your're unsure of what to do? Start here!

Gardening fun with Linnea!
Linnea enjoyed Monet's garden so much, she decides to plant her own garden....inside... because she doesn't have land to garden outside! Linnea shows the reader her garden and then explains how the young reader can do the same thing. Linnea demonstrates everything the young gardener needs to know about growing a healthy, indoor garden. This book is a bequiling method of enticing children to develop a green thumb. Linnea is always fun and delightful!

This is the best kid's gardening book!
This is a book about a girl named Linnea, the book is kind of like Linnea's garden journal because she is telling the reader what she did that day in her garden while explaining how you can plant those things too. It explains how to plant beans, avocado plants and lots more, It also tells you how to get rid of bugs, and it shows you different kinds of common bugs in gardens. This book really shows you that you don't need to have a big backyard to grow lots of plants. I really recomend this book

Great for reading aloud!
"The Little Cat and the Greedy Old Woman" is a wonderful book for sharing aloud! The story is well-written, and the pictures are adorable and expressive. I am a children's librarian and have used it in storytimes with great success. The children just love this book!

Exceptional illustrations reveal cat's opinions!
Usually illustrations are just pictures. This artist has used illustrations to reveal the cat's feelings and thoughts in a manner any child can see and relate to. Exceptionally funny and clever artwork. My children love to look at this book themselves as they can SEE the cat think!
