I give this book a five just because it is in the Hawk's Way series. Callen is the daughter of Garth and Candy Whitelaw from The Wranger and the Rich girl. We were also introduced to Callen in her brother Falcon's book The Unforgiving Bride. Callen gets engaged to her fathers neighbor Sam Longstreet, who was also introduced briefly in Falcon's book. Callen's family tries to discourage her from marrying Sam. Callens father Garth tells her that he is just after her money and that he is a dead beat, but Callen has already called off two engagements to two other men because her dad was right about them. Callen refuses to admit she is wrong this time and goes through with the wedding even though she has doubts.

Sam is only marrying Callen to get revenge on her father Garth. Sam blames Garth for his own fathers death. Sam plans on showering Callen with love and at the same time driving a wedge between her and her father. Sam has no intention of falling in love with Callen.

Finally, it is time for Callen to chose between her father and her husband. Personally, I would have liked for her to dump Sam a long time ago. He was driven by anger through most of the book and his motives were not pure, so it is hard to feel anything for that character. This was probably my least favorite Hawk's Way story out of all of them, but it was still a good book. I am sure that those that read the series will enjoy it even if they like or don't like the character of Sam.

This book contains great ideas that are also tasty. My picky eaters enjoyed the Breakfast No-Bake granola bars, the Awesome Banana Berry Pancakes and the Creamy, Dreamy Yogurt Orange-Banana Frozen pops. We are excited to try many of the other great recipe ideas. The recipes in here are easy to follow, and taste great!

Joan Carris's Author "Review"
Hedgehogs in the Closet was written as the third book in the Howard boys' series of 4 books. (The first book is When The Boys Ran The House.) This book is Nick's book--his story of the year the Howard family lived in England and he had to wear purple (ugh!) sweaters to school, do Poetry Class twice a week, and Drama Class ditto. But Nick also discovered Rugby--and he was good at that rough, tough sport. He found hilarious differences between the English that the English people speak and the language we Americans use. He even learned to eat "Toad in the Hole." And of course, he and his brothers kept real, live hedgehogs hidden in their closets. Well, they did until a problem arose.... For me as the author, and for me as a presenter of this book in schools, it has been a happy experience. I hope you'll try it! Cheers! Joan Carris

Informative Introduction to Wool Embroidery
Wool embroidery, a very popular craft in Australia, is just making inroads into the American market.

This book, in the Milner Craft Series, is a great introduction to the craft. The book contains 14 projects ranging from quick-stitch coathangers, to beautiful heirloom baby blankets.

Instructions are clear and well written, and include stitch diagrams and color pictures of the completed projects.

The book would appeal to the novice stitcher, as well as the more advanced embroiderer looking for something different to stitch.

I highly recommend this book.

My daughter's favorite book! I enjoy it too!
This wonderful book reminds adult readers and young children of what an epic odyssey it can be for a child to search for his or her shoes, especially when it is done with a hero of such mythical proportions as a grandpa! Joan Blos's writing is great as usual, while the art work by Anne Boyajian is superb, engaging to child and adult alike. The cover flap says that this is Boyajian's first children's book. We can only hope for many more!
