Group Marriage: A Study of Contemporary Multilateral Marriage
Published in Paperback by MacMillan Publishing Company (June, 1975)
Authors: Larry L. Constantine and Joan M. Constantine
Amazon base price: $2.95
Used price: $28.99
Average review score:

The best accessible study of 1970s group marriage.
The Constantines are straightforward about the inherent limitations of their research (without which it deserves 5 stars), yet even these limits are enlightening. This is the single best book exploring the sociology, dynamics, philosophies, motivations, and pitfalls of group marriage. I consider this a prime addition for the bookshelf of any serious student of group marriage, alternate family structures, polyamory, communes, and responsible nonmonogamy.

Review of the French translation
I own the French translation of this book. The book is wonderful, great pictures, but the text is not extremely well written. Also the author put some off topic mentions/opinions that are not necessary. The last pages of the book are featuring translation of the song lyrics, it's one of the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen! But I gave 4 stars to it's a great book and I recommend it.

The haunted South

Average review score:

Creepy true stories...
Forman's book is a fun read for a number of reasons. First and foremost are the stories themselves, many of them quoted oral versions from eyewitnesses. Secondly, as is often required in such a book, a good deal of history of the regions covered in the book is available. Having lived in England, I feel the author captures the feel of locations very well. True stories such as these are far more chilling than the latest horror novel. Anyone who has stayed in an old house that has its own "personality" will feel a bit of a chill when reading this book. The reader may or may not agree with the authors attemps to quantify or rationalize the existence of ghosts, but no doubt will be entertained by the tales themselves, and may be tempted to take a tour of some of the locations detailed.

Essential reading for the new house builder.

Poetry: The Language of the Heart
HEARTSONGS, A TREASURARY OF VERSE is an elect mix of poetry featuring the work of poets throughout the United States. While it is not a "theme" book, as such, the majoriety of the works included are centered around the subject of love--love of family, of home, of Nature, or of the special person in someone's life. Containing photos and short biographical sketches of many of the poets, as well as a number of illustrations by artists Russ Miller, Richard Dahlstrom, David Transue, Heartsongs is one of Southern Rose Productions best.

Fascinating!
A long but extremely rewarding read! Meticulous research brings these two brilliant writers to life. A longtime fan of both of these writers, I had originally planned to buy this book at the time of publication. However, plans did not go accordingly, and when I finally did, I could not find a copy. It was until a recent book fair at the local mall that I was able to find a copy. I spent many nights glued to this book fascinated by this turbulent relationship. This is a biography I will read again and again. I had never read anything by Joan Mellen-She is a wonderful writer!

Helping Children Understand Divorce: A Practical Resource Guide for Mom and Dad Break Up (Kids Have Feelings, Too Ser.))
Published in Paperback by Fearon Teacher AIDS (June, 2001)
Author: Joan S. Prestine
Amazon base price: $9.99

A wonderful book
The book helps kids (my experience is with a four year old) understand the feelings they have when their parents break up. It is an insightful and reassuring book. My son says it is his favorite book.

The boy in the book talks about how he feels and things that he does because his Mom and Dad break up. It is a short book that ends positively. It has discussion questions to talk about with your child after reading the book.

Highly recommended
Only in a small town like Prescott, Arizonia can the butcher recommend a larger steak, and corn rather than broccoli because a date doesn't eat it. And only in a small town like Prescott is matchmaking the favorite pastime of the old-lady set. But no one can endure introductions, gifts of tuna casserole with peas, and coconut-fig cookies forever. So Sheriff Cable Montana has just the solution to put an end to the matchmaking. He never expected his plot to backfire.

Cable has already done the marriage-divorce thing, and doesn't intend for a repeat performance. In the year and a half since arriving in Prescott, he hasn't even dated. But when his new puppy treats a lilac bush as a squeeze toy, his trip to the local nursery leads to meeting Lindsey Patterson, a woman who also intends to avoid all matchmaking. But new puppy and another chance encounter lead to a plot to thwart matchmakers, by making a preemptive strike. Cable and Lindsey will have a few dinners, a few movies, spend time together, and then break up with no hard feelings. Their subsequent healing time will prevent any more arrival of tuna casserole.

They didn't expect the sensual mist that seems to create a world that only includes the two of them. Cable and Lindsey find themselves irresistibly drawn together. This was not part of the plan. Especially since

Lindsey strives to maintain a inner peace and contentment, accepting life on life's terms. She's long since accepted that she will never marry and have children. Nevertheless, painful memories haunt Lindsey, and her secret separates her from the possibility of marriage.

Joan Elliot Pickart creates a humorously delightful tale of love and puppy destruction in HER LITTLE SECRET. The harder these memorable characters fight love, the faster they fall. And Buddy, the eight week old German Shepherd puppy provides just the right touch of disaster to keep the reader in stitches. A light read, in HER LITTLE SECRET is Highly recommended.

People's houses are windows on their souls. . .
This look at the way people's houses reflect themselves and their relationships with others is a wonderful hybrid of scholarship and popularization. Kron writes for magazines, but her insights come from anthropology, sociology and psychology -- and she's got a wonderful sense of humor. If you've ever wondered about roped off living rooms, guest towels which are never used or cheap soap in an expensively sybaritic shower, this is the book for you. It's a deceptively easy and pleasant read, the anecdotes so nicely illustrating her points that I reread it every couple years.
