Fun Romp for Young Readers
My daughter is just learning to read, so she can manage only the simplest text when reading a book herself. However, she still wants a good story that will hold her interest. "Nine Men Chase a Hen" was the perfect combination of silliness and simplicty for her to both manage the book on her own and to enjoy the aburd text and illustrations.

Great early reader
My daughter (grade K) loves reading this book with us. The story features a boy and girl who are playing together. The author has written it in a play format, and we take turns reading the parts of the boy, girl, and Mom. There are some great thought provoking questions following the story encouring logical thinking about what really is fair. A great way to teach math!

No Problem! -- Fun and Effective!
I teach fourth grade and have used this book for over a year. The kids love it, and so do I. The reproducables take the kids step by step through 8 different techniques for problem solving for what the National Council of Mathematics calls "Exemplars." Each of the 8 techniques (guess and check, making chart, working backwards, etc.) has a set of 5 problems plus a bonus problem, giving a full week's worth of practice, then there are many additional problems the teacher can use. AND -- each problem is explained -- not just the answer, but step by step how to approach and solve the problem. I highly recommend the book as a supplement for grades 4-6 math classes.

Excellent intermediate/advanced resource
I read this after completing the American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Adult CPR courses. This book assumes some basic first-aid knowledge and takes you to the next step with a deeper level of material, specifically focused on wilderness first aid techniques. Traditional first aid courses and materials like those taught by ARC assume an urban setting where paramedics and hospitals are minutes away. This book is geared toward the care of patients where such help is hours or days away. It covers effective assessment, treatment and evacuation techniques, as well as assessing urgency of evacuation. Included is information on the frequency of various kinds of illness/injuries in the wilderness based upon years of experience at NOLS. In addition to the standard subjects like shock, soft tissue injuries, broken bones, venomous bites & stings, etc., it discusses diagnosis of difficult abdominal symptoms, gender-specific illnesses/injuries, and stress on the rescuer. The illustrations are clear and the text is highly readable. I recommend this book to any serious outdoor enthusiast or leader.

Not What You Expected: A Collection of Short Stories

My favorite collection of short stories ever
This book of short stories really appeals to some part of me that almost nobody satisfies but Joan Aiken, and these are some of her best stories. I've seen them described as "quirky"; in them, things happen that never could happen, yet they make perfect sense in the story--a child wanders into an unused room and finds a tree growing there, with some of his ancestors sitting on the branches, and makes friends with one of them; a ballerina who breaks her leg slipping on a banana peel curses the entire town (but just see how the curse is broken!); a lonely child who plays at talking to King Canute in a telephone booth receives a call from him to warn her of approaching danger. I've just ordered a copy of this book for myself, after checking it out from the library for years; I recommend it to anyone, adult or child, with a taste for intelligent fiction that is, truly, _Not What You Expected_.

This book is life-changing.
Joan says it herself: truth heals. And truth is knowing that we are all children of the Great Creator, that we are creators in infancy, and that all we are going through is only the Creator's way of teaching us the truths we need to understand to have joy and peace.

She talks about how connected we all are: how we are all The Big Us; and how we need to forgive and support each other as much as we can.

This is also a book about pain, about cycles of pain. If you find yourself repeating the same cycles of pain over and over in your life, whether it be from abusive relationships, addictions, or depression, this book can be a tremendous guide to you. It was to me.

I highly recommend this book.

So much power in so few words
I didn't really want to read this book because it had so few words in it! I was amazed by the impact of each paragraph, how it illuminated the experience of being the child of an alcoholic, trying to appear fine, being afraid all the time. I cried. Something about this book is also powerfully healing. Perhaps it is the expression or evocation of emotions that most of us were taught to ignore and deny. Perhaps it is the absence of vengance. It is a beaautiful book. I'm going to give it to friends.

Great Resource
As a math teacher, I love to refer to this book and use theactivities often. I especially liked the section on decimals.Students can have difficulty realizing how big or small a decimal is and there is an activity that allows them to group the pictoral and the number version according to its size. It allows the students to see that a decimal close to 0 has very little shaded pictorally and that the decimal number starts with 0, 1, or 2. That is very important for those visual learners. Also, the estimation activities are very good because it covers estimation in terms of how many are in a space and estimates where rounding and then performing an operation are necessary. As a math resource teacher I have people coming to me a lot and when I show them activities from this book they are pleased and one has even bought it herself!

All time children's book favorite
I have ordered this book many times and many times from Amazon.com It is one of my all time favorites. I particularly like the edition that comes with a cassett, but the last time I tried to order it, the cassett was not available. I hope it will be reissued as it is a great adjunct to the book.

Information required
Unable to find any other way of tracking down a copy of either the film or the soundtrack of the film /play, Oh! What A Lovely War. Could someone please put me out of my misery and e-mail me with any information that might help me to obtain a copy of the film or the soundtrack. Failing this could someone please tell me how to get in touch with Richard Attenborough so that I can check with him to see if he has a copy that I could obtain a copy of.
