Collector's Encyclopedia of Barbie Dolls & Collectibles
This is a must for anyone who collects vintage Barbies and related items. It contains information and prices from the first Barbie starting with 1957 to 1976. It has all marks from those times. Also, pictures with information each year, which dolls were released and what clothes they were wearing. They have a year by year section, with information on other Mattel dolls, Ken, Midge and other rare ones. This is the most informative Barbie book I've read.

Putting God back in control of your life
Have you been faced with a situation where there is no one to turn to but God? Has life spiraled out of control, and, on your knees have you prayed for God to come and be present for comfort, strength, and endurance?

The Guntzelman sibling duo has gathered and written prayers for folks with illness who are seeking to focus on God and his miraculous powers rather on self.

The book affirms that physical healing can follow when spiritual and emotional healing are prioritized in your life.

5 thumbs up!

The first and best book on service quality and teamwork
This book rated an introduction by management guru Tom Peters because it was the first good book on quality and employee participation to be published in the USA. I rate it as a "gotta have if you care about your customers," because it was not only the first, it is still rates head and shoulders above anything that has been written since.

The Computer User's Survival Guide: Staying Healthy in a High Tech World
Published in Paperback by O'Reilly & Associates (December, 1995)
Author: Joan Stigliani
Amazon base price: $21.95
Used price: $27.18

A whole lot carefully wrapped into one book
The "Computer User's Survival Guide" makes a great package!

I really think "The Computer User's Survival Guide" is splendid. I frightfully read the book, worried that I'd ignore all the information jumping off the pages.

The chapter headings and subheadings outline every aspect of how to healthfully use your computer. The author Joan Stigliani writes in depth about the health implications of computer use. For example, her coverage of ordinary work stress includes detailed discussion of what stress is, its signs, its consequences, its contexts, and how to reduce it in every context that commonly causes it.

An appendix covers equipment selection for work with computers. A second appendix includes pointers to further resources relevant to the topics her book covers.

Some people I've known who work in the computer industry claimed that their prior exposure to carpal tunnel or repetitive stress injury educated them about how to properly use a computer. And they didn't follow my suggestions to read "The Computer User's Survival Guide". And they have or will go through the same problems again, thinking that they already know enough to avoid their problems again.

Some physical problems of a computer user require a simple adjustment to the height of the chair they're sitting on. Those problems can be solved quickly and easily. But if a person doesn't know any better, they may never solve those problems. Ms. Stigliani's book addresses such physical problems efficiently, including what those problems are, how they are caused, and how to solve them.

All computer users can learn how to solve their physical computer-use problems by reading "The Computer User's Survival Guide". But you need to have some conviction to do so, at least enough to buy the book and read it.

Configuration Management for Software (Vnr Computer Library)
Published in Paperback by Van Nostrand Reinhold (1994)
Authors: Stephen B. Compton, Joan R. Callahan, and Guy Conner
Amazon base price: $41.95
Average review score:

Simply the best and worth the effort to track down
Of all of the SCM books on my shelf this one is the best. The writing is engaging because the authors narrate their own experiences while imparting a copious amount of technical information and guidance on SCM. They use wry humor and case studies to reinforce their detailed description of the technical underpinnings and processes required to implement and manage SCM.

The first five chapters lay the foundation. Chapter 1 is introductory and provides the basic concepts. Chapter 2 covers the major SCM activities in detail, and addresses both technical and managerial considerations. Role and responsibilities of the software configuration manager is the topic of chapter 3. Forms, records and other essential SCM tools are covered in depth in chapter 4, with chapter 5 giving a wide survey of existing standards and procedures. The standards covered are primarily from the Federal Government and IEEE; however, the case studies in this chapter also include ISO 9000.

Chapters 6 through 8 cover how to implement and manage SCM. The chapter I liked most in this group is 8, Adapting to the Organization. The information will show you how to tailor SCM to fit within your particular organization and how to integrate it into your development processes. Chapter 9 is an extended case study of how SCM was used in the Space Station Freedom project. This chapter is a gold mine of best practices, as well as a dissertation of the challenges of applying SCM to a complex project. Chapter 10 reinforces chapters 8 and 9 by providing a conceptual framework for SCM, which contains some of the best case studies in the book.

Although this book is out of print there is a way to purchase used books. This one pops up from time to time as available - the next time it does I strongly recommend that you grab a copy if you are serious about SCM. This is a 5 star book and the best one among the dozen I own on the subject.

Cooking with Jesus
Published in Spiral-bound by Susman (28 September, 2001)
Authors: Joan Ravkind and Carol Lambert
Amazon base price: $18.50
Average review score:

Delicious and Spiritually Nutritious
This book combines 2 of the great loves of my life (and 2 of the things I struggle most with!): good cooking and being a good Christian. I found the recipes absolutely amazing. Not only did they taste great, but they were easy too.

And the words of wisdom sprinkled throughout the book brought a smile to my face. They reinforced what I've always known to be true -- that you can't be a good Christian without being a good person.

"Cooking With Jesus" has brightened my home, and come Christmas, it will be brightening the homes (and the lives) of my friends and family.

Counseling Single Parents

This Is The Best Book On Counseling Single Parents Around
Counseling Single Parents is one of the best, if not the best, books available on this topic. The authors approach the topic from a positive stance, emphasizing the strengths and resources of these families. In addition, they bring forth a solid questioning of the past research findings that conclude pathological problems among the children of single parent households. There are chapters on divorce, being a single parent from a psychological, social, and sexual point point of view, making transitions, healthy single parent households, family-school linkages, and single parents and the workplace. The authors then present and counter traditional family therapist assumptions about this type of family system, concluding with a social constructionist therapeutic model

Lovely, moving story
Joan Wolf has the incredible writing skill of turning an ugly situation -- a rape , into a beautiful and moving story of love . The suffering of both the hero and heroine in the process wrenches your heart but you would be touched by the tenderness of budding love and the satisfying conclusion. A high-recommended read.
